About this property

Glyn Ceiriog 2 miles. This lovely, detached, characterful cottage is set in a peaceful rural location, with stunning views of the rolling hills of the Ceiriog Valley, two miles from the bustling former slate mining village, Glyn Ceiriog. Dating back to the 1600s, this splendid cottage has been lovingly renovated to a high standard in order to provide excellent, contemporary accommodation, yet retains lots of lovely original features, including an inglenook fireplace housing a warming woodburning stove, exposed beams and slate flooring. Downstairs the property offers a handy utility room, great for storing those muddy walking boots, as well as a cosy sitting room boasting a fairy tale stone fireplace framing a striking white woodburning stove, ideal to snuggle up in front of with a good book and your favourite tipple after a bracing walk in the country. This room leads through into a snug, where you can retreat to in the evening and swap stories late into the night. There’s also a convenient bathroom on the ground floor, as well as a light and airy open plan living area with a kitchen, a dining area and a sitting area with a homely feel and double aspect views of the lush garden and the mountains in the distance.

From this room you can also see the spacious patio, a great place to sit in the morning and plan your day’s activities, or gather in the evening with your loved ones and a glass of something cool in hand. The first floor has large and welcoming bedrooms, both with beams set into the eaves, king-size beds and white cotton bedding. A shower room completes this lovely country accommodation. The surrounding area offers amazing views and excellent opportunities for walking and cycling amongst the hills and woodlands all around. You could also enjoy a spot of clay pigeon shooting, or even exhilarating whitewater rafting, tranquil fly fishing or horse riding.

The bustling town of Llangollen is also within driving distance, where a great day out can be had perusing the tiny independent shops, or stopping for tea and cakes in a café. Very peaceful and picturesque location. Pen-y-bont had everything you needed. Owners very friendly and clearly listen to customers requirements. Brand new smart TV installed for our stay. Cosy lounge with lovely wood burner. Fantastic walks from the door step. Very comfortable beds. The kitchen/dining area is so relaxing looking out over the garden, stream and hilly countryside. An absolutely wonderful stay.

Everything was clean and pleasant when we arrived. We were really pleasantly surprised with the unexpected amount of lovely things in the kitchen like the butter, welsh cakes, ground coffee, milk and tea waiting for us when we arrived. The boot room was fantastic for the dog to be fully clean before entering the rest of the property. The house itself was nice and warm, and the fireplace room was super snug and cosy. The instructions from the owners were clear, and there were good recommendations about places to visit and restaurants to eat at. The garden has a bird feeder that already had fat balls for birds in it when we arrived, so we could enjoy the visiting birds to the garden. Pen Y Bont has everything you could want from a holiday cottage and more, in my opinion. Fantastic stay!

The setting was amazing and we spent some time just sitting near the double doors watching the wildlife. The bed was extremely comfortable and all the furnishings were of a high standard. We will be returning for a longer holiday
