About this property

Newport 5.0 miles, Crymych 5.0 miles, Cardigan 6.5 miles. This detached property sits in a rural location on a traditional Welsh farm and campsite, where Shire Horses are bred and worked. Enjoying a serene farmyard location, Trelew is an ideal base for families looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and experience a slice of farm life while accessing the beauty of Pembrokeshire. Upon arrival you are greeted by ample parking spaces, where you can park your car and unload your belongings. The large open-plan kitchen/diner is the focal point of the home, offering a high frame ceiling, slate tiled floor and French doors with views of the Preseli hills over the pasture and neighbouring campsite.

The designer chef can take over the kitchen, furnished with a range of oak units and has a breakfast bar with 2 stools, large range cooker with electric ovens, grill and hob, microwave oven and a large fridge/freezer. Prepare the farmhouse table for a big feast before settling down in the separate sitting room, offering underfloor heating which is sure to be appreciated in the cooler months. There are three bedrooms at Trelew; on the lower ground-floor there is a king-size with en-suite bathroom and a double bedroom, whilst on the first floor there is a loft room with an A frame ceiling, velux windows and two single beds, ideal for the children of the group.

The rear lawned garden is enclosed and level making it suitable for dogs and children and is large enough for ball games, or choose to relax on the sun deck with furniture and picnic bench, overlooking the majestic and mythical Preseli Hills. Throughout the stay, guests will have free access to the family's Dyfed Shire Horse Farm, on which Trelew is located with use of the children's play areas (adult supervision required) even after the farm has closed to the general public. Those bringing their four-legged friends can explore a mile of farm trail and an excellent public footpath that runs through the farm, offering superb views and undisturbed walks.

During farm opening hours guests are welcome to take part in any of the timetabled activities and visit the indoor children's play areas, gift shop or café and guests (by prior arrangement) can accompany farm staff with animal feeding routines (not available to general visitors). Furthermore, 1-2-1 experiences with the Shire Horses can be arranged for an additional fee. When you’re ready to explore, visit the market town of Cardigan and explore over 180 miles of cliff-top footpaths in Britain's only Coastal National Park, visit the Iron Age Fort of Castell Henllys or enjoy stunning beaches within easy reach. Trelew is a superb cottage for a unique holiday experience in Pembrokeshire.

Crymych is a small village in Pembrokeshire, Wales, not far from the magnificent Preseli Hills, home to free-ranging sheep and wild ponies. The village itself is well-supplied with a variety of businesses, including a mini-market, butchers, bakers, garage, pub, pharmacy, fish and chip shop, hair salon, Post Office, and many others. Newport, which is only a short drive away, is home to a variety of stores and services, including supermarkets, pharmacies, health food stores, souvenir shops, and visitor centres. Numerous great eating establishments and watering holes can be found here. Tides Kitchen and Wine Bar is a great place to get some fresh seafood. There is outdoor seating at both the Golden Lion Pub and Doctors Court's secret garden. Cardigan, a lively market town with a variety of shops, cafes, pubs, a movie theatre, a contemporary theatre, and several venues for live music, is not far away either. Miles of hiking in the Preseli Mountains are available right outside your door, and the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path boasts stunning views of the islands and headlands in the area. A perfect spot, central to all that beautiful Pembrokeshire has to offer.

Mould spots on pillows when we stripped the beds, the mattresses were unbelievably uncomfortable and the state of the matresses when we stripped the beds was unreal springs sticking out, stains and just filthy, mould in the bathrooms, the windows were leaky, the oven door didn't shut which resulted in food not cooking properly and me having food poisoning (in hindsite we just shouldn't have cooked in it but we picked somewhere we could cook as our toddler goes to bed at 7 so didnt really have a choice). We really do feel that the property did not match what was advertised and given I have leukaemia cleanliness and comfort were very important when we were looking at properties. Looking at reviews which have been posted since we initially booked it seems they have been very much along the same lines making all the same comments about the beds and the oven. The washing machine leaked when we tried to use it although the owner did offer to refund us for out laundrette bill for the bed sheets and towel after sickness. The other issue we had was the farm dog constantly coming into the garden area to go to the toilet (so not only was i picking up my own dogs mess but someone elses too) and jumping up us (and our car) including knocking our little one flying on more than one occasion thankfully he is dog savy so this didn't upset him too much but our dog doesn't like other dogs in her personal space and getting jumped on and humped by him made it so we only took her outside at the farm for her morning and night toilet breaks and caused them to be extremely stressful constantly looking around to see if he was coming over. It's a shame as it really did make our holiday nothing like we wanted and I have several friends who would have loved the premise of staying at the farm with the horses but I honestly can't recommend it to them based on the accommodation in the property as it is.

The whole cottage needs updating. The bathrooms were grubby, beds uncomfortable, the windows need replacing, there is a 2inch gap in the kitchen window. I cleaned the fridge before using it and did not attempt to use the oven, only the hob and this was only on two occasions. We did not know that there were campers in the field behind the cottage and was twice visited by family campers who thought our cottage was the farmers cottage. One visit was as early as 5.30am. There is no sign at the front of the cottage to say it is a rental cottage. The back garden is a really nice large area but a random dog came into the garden whilst we was in the cottage. Having said all this, the owner and staff were really friendly on the Shire Farm.

The location couldn’t be better placed… lots of lovely little bays, castles aplenty & Cardigan was both pretty and full of quirky shops. Thank you to the Dyfed family & staff who couldn’t have been lovelier… the Dyfed shire horse farm is a real gem and I hope that we are able to return for a visit another year
