About this property

Milford Haven 5.3 miles. The Anchorage is a traditional Welsh stone cottage nestled within a spectacular woodland area of the Pembrokeshire National Park. Bring your family to this large detached property, originally two separate cottages which have melded together to form a homely, child-friendly base. Make your way through the tall, lush trees onto the spacious driveway where the cottage spreads across two acres of land, and onto an enchanting stone fort children's playhouse containing an open air theater and seats, where kids and even some adults can delve into an enchanted woodland fantasy, as well as ample space for boat, trailer, kayak and bike storage. Making your way to the entrance, you'll find a front suntrap with garden furniture, a peaceful spot to drink a cup of tea and read the morning paper. This welcoming cottage is filled with quirky seaside and boating decor in nearly every room, including paintings, anchors and stories of the Victorian coastline. Unwind in the snug open-plan living area, a room bursting with a homely family feel and country house decor, here you'll find a well-equipped kitchen, spacious family dining area, and large lounge with plenty of plush sofas, a TV and a decorative fireplace. Clean up in the handy utility room where you can wash your wetsuits and beachwear using the washing machine and clothes rail. Take your pick between the ground-floor bathroom and shower room, soak your feet in a glorious bubble bath or grab an invigorating morning shower. This cottage is ideal for a large family gathering with young children, with the ground floor hosting two large double rooms and a twin which holds two travel cots, whereas the first floor boasts a grand twin and double, both with traditional sloped ceilings and en-suite bathrooms. When a rainy day strikes, the kids can entertain themselves in the upstairs galleried play area, protected by a safety gate, this wonderfully fun space has toys, games, and a TV, there's even enjoyment here for the adults, where you can learn about the deep history of the coastline found on the walling in the room. Relax in the enclosed two acre garden, strolling along the brick patio, verdant lawn, woodland and even a camping area. A short drive away in St Ishmael's village centre is a popular pub where you can sink down a local Welsh pint, there's also a nearby village store in Marloes for you to pick up all your essentials for your self-catered stay. Take the kids for a day out at the rural beach of Lindsway Bay, a secluded sandy haven surrounded by tall cliffs, but make sure to check the tide times so your day doesn't get cut short, while there's lots of other sandy beaches in close distance including Marloes Sands and Little Haven Beach. You can't visit this corner of Wales without taking a walk along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, ideal for ramblers, bird watchers and hikers, it's also the best location for watersports such as surfing, cliff diving, sailing and windsurfing. Drive over to the towns of Milford Haven to play golf, with plenty of other wonderful amenities being found here too for a self-catered stay, or the medieval Haverfordwest, where you can explore historic landmarks and its castle. Discover the thriving city of St. Davids, known as Britain's smallest city, here you can visit a host of cultural attractions, dine in local restaurants and pubs, and tour the famous St Davids Cathedral. Relish in quality family time at The Anchorage, an enchanted sanctuary where you can find your inner child encompassed by magical countryside views.

Recognised as a former fishing town, Milford Haven is a small thriving centre boasting a marina which overlooks the Cleddau Waterway. Here you can visit a host of shops, boutiques, tea rooms and restaurants where you can dine on locally caught fresh fish. Small beach within a 100 yards of the property and a good base for the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and other local attractions. It was fantastic!

Everything you need for a break in a nice part of the country. Walks and beach/estuary nearby. Not too far to travel for town and popular seaside resorts. The only downside is the network of approach roads which are quite narrow but not impossible to navigate. All in all 10 out of 10 plenty of room for every one (8 adults, 3 children in our party). Wonderful!

Enormous - so we never felt on top of one another. Fantastic outdoor space and a beach within throwing range. The crabbing, as promised was very productive and the grandkids must have caught over fifty within a half hour. The house would really benefit from showers in the upstairs en suites, but as there were 2 showers downstairs - we didn’t struggle. It would have just been convenient. Fantastic place and some very interesting owl spotting at night.
