Oil central heating (£15 per week October-April), electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Fuel for open fire included October-April. Travel cot and highchair. Small front lawned garden with patio and garden furniture. Rear gravelled area with garden furniture. Private parking for 3 cars. No smoking.. A pretty, modern, pet-friendly Pembrokeshire holiday cottage converted from what was once the smithy and smith’s cottage. Set on the hillside leading up to the hilltop village of Mathry, it is cosy, comfortable and features exposed stone walls and a high vaulted ceiling. The spacious kitchen/dining room is a lovely, welcoming family room with open plan stairs leading to a galleried loft bedroom over the kitchen. The owner, who lives in the adjoining, but completely separate cottage, has hand-crocheted beautiful bedspreads for every bed. Leading off the kitchen to the rear is a sun room and gravelled outdoor dining area with table and chairs. The living room (two steps down from the kitchen) has an open fire and a piano for those who are musically inclined to enjoy! The village pub is just a short walk from the property and is a traditional village pub offering a warm welcome and good pub food.
There is wonderful walking and cycling country with easy access either on foot or by car to the numerous coves and beaches along the Pembrokeshire National Park Coastal Path - a beach lover’s paradise. Walk through National Trust Broom Wood to the twin beaches of Abermawr and Aberbach (dogs are welcome all year round), it is never crowded on account of limited parking and a quarter of a mile walk to each.

Comfortable stay but the the cottage is in need of some TLC. Great location especially with the Farmers Arms in walking distance for decent pub grub

Everything we wanted for a lovely week in this idyllic Welsh village. A very kind welcome of local produce greeted us on arrival, which was very welcome after a 5 hour journey.The place was clean and cozy, and had everything we needed for our stay.Our hosts were welcoming but not intrusive and we would highly recommend a stay at the Old Smithy / Yr Hen Gof.

Spacious, quirky cottage with bags of character in a great location - well placed for visiting St Davids Peninsula. You can walk to the beach but note that you need to drive part of the way there as sadly the footpath from Mathry isn't maintained. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. The garden is very pleasant and private - a bit of a sun trap, and we loved our mornings in the sun room, even when the rain was hammering down! On the slightly negative side, the pillows in the main bedroom weren't great and the shower was pretty tepid after a couple of minutes. Also, an information book/folder would be a helpful addition - we hoped we'd got the rubbish disposal right for example! - and general useful information about the area such as supermarkets, restaurants, getting to the beach but we managed ok to be fair, so nothing to really complain about. In summary we had a lovely stay and were very cosy, even during the many torrential showers, thank you Tina and Anthony ?
