Guests say

The Shippon in Conwy is a well-received cottage, praised for its cleanliness, peaceful and beautiful location, and cosy comfort. Guests appreciate the warm welcome from the hosts and the property's suitability for dogs. The cottage's character and rural setting provide a tranquil retreat, though some guests mention low beams and steep stairs as points to consider.

Most guests found The Shippon to be clean and well-maintained, with several positive comments about its tidiness. However, a few mentioned issues such as dampness and cobwebs, slightly lowering the score.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, beautiful countryside views, and proximity to Conwy. It serves as a great base for exploring North Wales, with a few guests noting the narrow access lane.

Guests generally find the cottage comfortable and cosy, especially with the log burner. However, tall guests have mentioned the need to mind their heads due to low beams, and some found the bed and heating less than ideal.

The Shippon is well-equipped according to guests, with a well-stocked kitchen and comfortable furnishings. Some guests experienced issues with the television and heating, and one mentioned the need for a frying pan replacement.

While guests have expressed appreciation for the hosts' warm welcome and helpfulness, there are no specific mentions of gifts or special thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.

About this property

A delightful 18th century detached barn nestling within a three acre rural setting in the Conwy Valley. A wonderful property, The Shippon has been beautifully converted and retains many features such as exposed beams and a charming mezzanine bedroom. Outside, the property has a pretty sitting area. It is surrounded by fields with lovely views, and is exceptionally tranquil. The Shippon offers cosy and comfortable accommodation, furnished and decorated to a high standard. The whole area is a paradise for climbers, walkers, cyclists and horseriders alike - the Snowdonia National Park is within easy riding distance, and summer stabling is available. Conwy is a true medieval gem with its magnificent castle, splendid town walks, picturesque harbour and links golf course. An ideal location for a relaxing break any time of the year.

Conwy is an historic town and has been declared a World Heritage Site in recognition of its architecture and other links with the past. The town is most renowned for its medieval castle and town walls that are almost complete, both of which offer fantastic views of Snowdonia and the estuary of the River Conwy. Today Conwy is a bustling town that caters for both tourists and the local community. Ancient buildings sit comfortably among more recent properties and there is an abundance of places to visit. Top of the list is the Castle, but there are many more, including Plas Mawr, an architectural gem and said to be the finest surviving Elizabethan townhouse to be found anywhere in Britain. Towards the quayside you will find Aberconwy House a 14th Century merchant's house believed to be the oldest townhouse in Wales. It has been carefully restored to reflect the daily life of its residents over time. On the quayside you may enter the smallest house in Britain or visit the Aquarium and Conwy mussel museum. Take a boat trip on the river and see the Great Orme, or sail upriver to see the full beauty of the Conwy Estuary and the Conwy Valley.

Cosy and comfortable. Good facilities. Really nice hosts, came to see us on the first night to see if everything was ok and then left us alone to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Great little enclosed field for the dogs who loved it! Will be back when we can! Thank you! Jo, Steve, Freya & Mabel

Heating is mostly only effective if you run the log burner, the guest book with telephone numbers to renew stocks of wood were not updated. No answers on messages or calls so we had to go out and purchase bags of logs. The bed was super comfortable but the doorway posts should have some decor to warn you just how low they are. We kept banging our heads throughout the week. The cleanliness of the property was excellent but throughout the week we noticed lots of wood lice dropping in from the wooden rafters, they were everywhere sadly, slightly off putting but after all this is a barn conversion.
