Guests say

Braich-Y-Celyn Lodge is a charming and cosy cottage with stunning estuary views, praised for its peaceful location and homely atmosphere. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds, underfloor heating, and thoughtful touches, making it ideal for families and couples. While some mention issues with cleanliness, damp, and heating, the majority highlight the beautiful setting, well-equipped kitchen, and relaxing ambience. The property is best suited for those travelling by car, as walking into Aberdovey is not practical. Overall, it offers a memorable and restful stay in a picturesque part of Mid Wales.

Several guests found the cottage clean and tidy, but a notable number reported issues such as dust, cobwebs, mould, and the need for more thorough cleaning on arrival. Some guests had to clean windows or rooms themselves, while others found the property spotless. Cleanliness appears inconsistent.

The location is widely praised for its stunning views, peacefulness, and proximity to Aberdovey and local attractions. However, the lack of footpaths and proximity to a main road make walking into town impractical, which some guests found inconvenient.

Most guests found the cottage warm, cosy, and comfortable, especially enjoying the beds and log burner. However, some experienced cold bedrooms, steep stairs, and uncomfortable sofas, particularly in colder months or for those with mobility issues.

The cottage offers good basic facilities, including underfloor heating, a log burner, and a well-equipped kitchen. Some guests noted a lack of kitchen essentials, unclear instructions for appliances, and maintenance issues such as old heaters and mould. Facilities are generally adequate but could benefit from updates.

Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as a welcome bottle of wine and a parking permit. However, as these gestures are not guaranteed for every stay, future guests should not expect them as standard.

About this property

Aberdovey 1 mile. A delightful, detached cottage, a former entrance lodge to a country estate, with wonderful estuary views, on the outskirts of the seaside resort of Aberdovey. Full of character, with features including beams, slate flooring, the original bread oven, a woodburner, underfloor heating and original ornamental fireplaces in the bedrooms, this lovely Wales cottage has been sympathetically restored, and decorated with great style. With wonderful views from every room over the estuary and the sandy beach just one mile away, this is a delightful setting. Aberdovey has shops, tea rooms and pubs. Great days out can be had in Machynlleth, the Snowdonia National Park, or on the local steam railway. A perfect Aberdovey cottage to return to, whatever the time of year.

Renowned for its mild climate, sandy beaches, sailing and a championship 18-hole links golf course, the picturesque harbour village of Aberdovey is often referred to as "an artist's paradise". Packed with pastel coloured cottages, small shops, inns and excellent restaurants which specialise in local seafood, the settlement offers a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Aberdovey boasts some of the finest beaches in Britain, including four miles of golden sand dunes running north to Tywyn - home of the world-famous Talyllyn Steam Railway. Popular with sunbathers, swimmers, surfers and fishermen, these beaches make a wonderful spot for a day trip, whilst the estuary attracts a wide range of water sports enthusiasts. The peaks of the Cader Idris and Aran Fawddwy ranges are also close by and offer a range of walks at different difficulty levels.

Unfortunately, there were a number of issues that detracted from the overall experience. The sofas were impractical and very uncomfortable, making it difficult to relax in the living area. The kitchen was also lacking basic essentials such as cooking pans. In addition, the instructions provided, particularly for the heating and the oven- were very unclear and difficult to understand. One of the oven dials came off and the controls felt flimsy and almost unsafe, which made cooking challenging. Due to the unclear heating instructions, the bedrooms were also uncomfortably cold at night. Most importantly, the property required a far more thorough clean on arrival. This was raised and escalated with the owner. Although the cleaning company did get in touch which we appreciate, this was after we had already settled in, which felt inconvenient and disruptive. The owner was largely unapologetic and referred us back to the housekeeper, explaining they were abroad at the time. With improved cleaning standards, clearer instructions, and some updates to furnishings and kitchen equipment, this could be a really excellent place to stay.

We managed to get in touch and turn the heating on and get the fire going. Downstairs was nice and warm, but upstairs was freezing and remained so as the two decaying storage heaters were broken. So the first night was freezing and attempts at repair the following day failed. To be fair a very nice chap came around with an oil filled radiator and a fan heater which turned out to be ineffective. So we had to swap it from room to room. It was overall a bit dusty but, that being said, was a quaint little cottage, with well used space, decently furnished with a log burner which kept things toasty downstairs. It's just a pity about the first impressions and the cold bedrooms with storage heaters which were so old it was no surprise didn't work.
