About this property

Dolgellau 2.7 miles. Perched within rolling green countryside in the Snowdonia National Park hamlet of Brithdir in Gwynedd lies Gwengraig, a superb, detached holiday home. With an external games room, a luscious garden with a hot tub, and an interior which is bursting with character and home comforts, this cottage is an ideal choice for a family or group of friends hoping to truly get away from the hustle and bustle. Step inside the entrance hallway and make your way into the sitting room, fit with a quality corner sofa and original exposed beams, along with a Smart TV and woodburning stove to cosy up in front of. From here, move through to the dining room, which has seating for eight and fireside chairs next to the gorgeous inglenook fireplace, while the designated cook makes use of the rustic, farmhouse-style kitchen, and its plentiful appliances. After relaxing with loved ones, climb the stairs to get some rest; the master bedroom boasts a lovely deep window to admire views from, while the remaining bedrooms, a double, a twin and a single, all have plenty of storage for belongings and an inviting décor. Outside, enjoy the countryside views from hot tub, or in the warmer months you can cook and dine in the sunshine with the help of the barbecue. For your evening entertainment, be sure to take advantage of the external games room, where you can also store your sports gear, and unleash your competitive side with a game of table tennis. Conveniently located at the foothills of Cader Idris, this property is a haven for avid walkers and cyclists, with a wealth of tracks and paths to explore. Aircraft enthusiasts can enjoy an afternoon of plane watching from the nearby Mach Loop; why not climb to the top of the pass with a picnic to enjoy the 'show'? Within easy reach is the village of Corris, known for its Steam Railway Museum and excellent mountain biking tracks; grab your bikes and make the most of the stunning backdrop. If the beach is more your style, a short drive will take you to the popular seaside resort of Barmouth, for a pleasant day out filled with fish and chips and maybe even an ice cream! Whatever your style of adventure, choose Gwengraig as your base.

This picturesque market town is in southern Snowdonia, between Cader Idris and the sea. It's a great location for seeing Snowdonia and resting on Barmouth, Fairbourne, and Aberdovey's beaches. The village has a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that produce fresh bread and pastries daily. Dolgellau has almost 200 listed structures, the highest concentration in Wales, and is a designated "cycling break centre" with dedicated bike lanes. This setting is perfect for quiet outdoor activity with mountains, forests, waterfalls, castles, and beaches nearby.

Lots of character to the cottage and breathtaking views. Games room was a big hit with young and old. The hot tub was a very big effort to get going with it being a log burner, and due to the 3-4hr heating time required meant we couldn't use it on the first night. The outside would benefit from better lighting around the hot tub and inbetween the cottage and games room for safety. The TV in the main living room wasn't working for the majority of the weekend. Someone came to look at it the day after we reported it, but didn't solve the issue. As it was an old sky set up I think the fault was due to the bad weather. Despite these couple of issues overall we enjoyed a peaceful weekend away and would possibly stay here again.

We had a great time here the views are stunning the cottage was everything we hoped for The beds were comfortable The sofas were comfortable The kitchen has everything you need We had a nice little welcome package The owner came out with more fire wood when we needed it There are 2 small improvements that could be made Heating in the game’s room would be better although I know this would be difficult in this building The hot tub was lovely when it was hot however it would be nice to have the the jets working Please not let that put anyone off as this really is a beautiful place to stay

Walking in I thought I was walking into a church as it smelt like one, that's not a bad thing as it's an old property. We soon settled in and felt at home. There's plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots and pans and utensils. The welcome pack is a nice touch and was very much appreciated. We only used the lounge once as we preferred the dining room, it was nice to sit round the table, eat, chat, drink and play card games. There's a two seater sofa and two chairs if you get fed up of drinking and playing cards lol. The wood fire makes it cosy but got too warm as the heating was set ( September) £5 per bag thereafter the first lot free. The hot tub takes around 4 hours to heat up ( you must stay with it to keep stoking it up ) but was fab when we got in it. There was 7 of us, me and my husband, daughter and Son-in-law and 3 grandsons 22, 16 and 14 and I must say the games room was a godsend as we had so much fun in there on rainy days. There's a utility room with washer, dryer, ironing board and iron and a high chair also a mop and bucket which came in handy for the downstairs shower room as the shower doors leak but we soon learnt to face the shower head away from the doors. We didn't bother with the TV as choice of what to watch was poor so as I said earlier we lived in the dining room. It sits at the mouth of Mach Loop ( which excited us ) but only saw 2 aircraft, better than nothing I suppose. All in all this cottage is a little gem with a lovely cosy feel and we would return in a heartbeat. It's not for people who aren't very mobile as there's nothing round it but walks and stunning scenery It definitely gets a 10/10 from us. It would be nice if the owner could get together ( if known ) the history of the cottage like when it was built and the stages of it's life up to present day. I'm sure lots of people would find it an interesting read.
