What our customers say about their holidays

Okay but definitely not outstanding⦠We arrived late afternoon as couldnât check in until 3pm as there had been a âdeep cleanâ complete.
The cottage was tidy but I donât know if I would say a deep clean had been conducted as there were areas that looked like they hadnât been hoovered or cleaned for a while (including mould on the blinds).Additionally the outside area needed a tidy up as there were weeds growing all over the patio. A concern for me was seeing that the smoke alarm couldnât even be closed properly. The location of the cottage was outstanding for us- everything was in close car proximity and there were some lovely walks in the area however be mindful that these are up great hills. And if you like the pub itâs definitely more than a 10 min walk- We are fit and in our 20âs and it took us half an hour! The bathroom was satisfactory, if you have any mobility issues or slightly larger than average you may struggle to get into the shower as the gap is slim between the doors. The games room was a great addition however couldnât be used after 9pm or before 10am. The dart flights were broken, there was only one table tennis ball, the table football handles were broken and the pool table wasnât properly level. My partner and I attempted to watch tv in the evening as the games room couldnât be used but this proved near impossible. Advertised as free satellite tv we assumed we would be able to watch most channels, also as being described as modern we we thought it would have iPlayer/ITVX however we couldnât even get free view channels. itv1 was the only channel we could get to work and this kept glitching due to the age of the tv- we proceeded to watch on our phones. The bed was the worst part of the experience for us. In the end we messaged the owner as we had 4 quits under the bed sheet and could still feel the mattress springs. The owner didnât reply until after we had left but a neighbour lent us a mattress topper which improved the quality of sleep for the final night. All this being said we had a lovely holiday however this cottage definitely needs a revamp (considering that the last PAT test done on one of the appliances was 2011!!!)

We had a lovely stay at Stable cottage.
The owners were so friendly and helpful and the location was perfect for our needs. Ilfracombe is near by which we really enjoyed with our 8 year old twins and Lee Bay which is just down the road is a stunning place to visit especially when the tide is out so you can explore the smugglers steps and rock formations. The shared garden is beautifully kept and has lovely views at the bottom of the sea in the distance and the games room was enjoyed by us all. The cottage was lovely and clean on our arrival and the kitchen had everything you needed. Other reviews have said the space around the beds was very limited but this didn't impact us as there was plenty of storage space for your belongings and clothes but if you have mobility issues this could be a problem. My only constructive feedback was that the patio area we used to sit out on could have done with a little tidy up as it didn't quite match the well kept garden and I did find the double mattress not the most comfortable as I could feel the springs but then that could be because I'm used to a memory foam mattress! This didn't however spoil our stay and we hope to come back again one day.

The cottage is clean, comfortable and well equipped.
The best thing is the wonderful garden our hosts, Richenda and Kathy, shared with us. We looked forward to our evening G & T in the swinging garden seat watching the sun setting behind the fields. The view is stunning and the garden is large and well looked after. Our 7 year old son and our dog loved to run up and down the length of it. There is a picnic bench in the main garden and in the cottage's own little patio although it was a bit too chilly in October for alfresco dining! From our 7 yr old's point of view the highlight was the Games Room/Barn. He loved it. Thankfully we had beautiful weather but in October (or any time of year in the uk!) it provided peace of mind that if our plans got rained off we had options. There is wi-fi but the signal is intermittent. Fine for web access and social media but not good enough for streaming There was lots of good local information available. The dog friendly attractions/beaches/ cafes were particularly appreciated Kathy and Richenda were very friendly and helpful.

Firstly a huge thank you to the owner for accommodating us so quickly and to Kathy for doing an excellent job of cleaning and getting the property ready for us in a very short space of time.
It was very much appreciated. We were already half way to Devon when the owner of the original property we booked called to say we couldnât go there because it was flooded. Sykes booked us into this property and the owners pulled out all the stops to get it ready by 3.00pm the same day which was just two hours away. Brilliant. Would definitely recommend this cottage. Lovely place, central for all of North Devon. Huge safe and enclosed garden for our dog. Lovely friendly olde worlds pub just down the road. We stayed in winter and it was lovely and warm. The only constructive comment for a winter stay, it needs a rug on the laminate floor. In spite of the cottage being warm, the floor was freezing. We had to wear shoes or put our feet up on the settees to keep our feet warm. It was very cold for bare feet or even with socks on. It did warm a little by the end of the week. But that is all, otherwise it was all great and would highly recommend.

We enjoyed a lovely few days at Stable Cottage.
The cottage is fairly basic but has very thing you need for a comfortable stay. Richenda and Kathy were very welcoming and on hand should you need them. The jewel in the crown is lovely, very large, well tended, enclosed garden..... our puppy loved running around and around the flower bed! The only thing to mention is that the bathroom is downstairs. There are basins in each bedroom, but the bathroom is accessed through the kitchen, downstairs. This wasnât an issue for us but might be for some. The cottage is off the beaten track so is quiet, itâs about a mile down a steep hill to the local pub, The Grantham. The pub was serving food outside and we enjoyed a superb dinner and lunch there. Not your run of the mill pub menu, and really delicious food. The walk back up the hill was welcome afterwards, but you need to be fit to manage it! We would recommend Stable cottage for anyone wanting a quiet few days away.
