What our customers say about their holidays

What a beautiful property set in the most picturesque setting!
We cannot wait to come back! The house itself is beautiful. It is well equipped and so very cosy and warm when it is cold outside. Thank you Annie for decorating it for Christmas and for the best and most generous welcome hamper we have ever seen from a Sykes Cottage until now. It was also lovely to have met you during our stay. We had the most wonderful time and so did our dog. She loved all the smells and the massive garden to run around in. She was quite intrigued by the pheasants that seemed to visit every day and would sit and watch them as opposed to wanting to chase them. The setting of the house is beautiful. Being in an AONB it is surrounded by nature, woods right behind and fields.to the front with great walks right from the door. With no artificial light in the vicinity the sky is lit up with stars at night. It is in a great location, just an hour from Salisbury and Stonehenge and down the road from Avebury. There is just one thing that could be added to make the property perfect in our eyes. There is no fencing in the front garden by the road. I believe there used to be a little picket fence (like what runs around the side where you park your car) but that has been taken out and replaced with very young hedging plants which will take years before they provide any kind of a deterrent for a dog to make a run for it. It is a shame as we felt we had to watch our dog every minute she was out in the front because of the road which isn't a busy one but still is what it is. Having said that, I would still come back.

The property is old and quaint, it was spacious ,clean and well equipped in the kitchen .
Good quality towels and bedding . We ,like others found the sofas extremely low and the all feather cushions heavy and uncomfortable. The dining chairs are not upholstered and although okay for eating a meal they were uncomfortable as an alternative seat to the sofas. I booked this property because it had a ground floor bedroom and I donât think the property description is clear enough in that all toilet and bathing facilities are upstairs. I have reduced mobility and thought the shower was downstairs , if I had known I wouldnât have booked it . The bathroom and shower rooms are nicely done and the beds are very comfortable. The lounge and ground floor bedroom are quite dark and colder than the rest of the ground floor. The bedrooms and bathrooms were chilly in the evening and the radiators never came on even when the temperature dropped . The owners do make themselves available via email, mobile or WhatsApp , we just didnât bother them . The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog . The location was great and it was only a short walk to the pub to get a meal out . It wasnât made very clear as to where the additional car parking was and whether you had to pay , there was no mention of it in the property handbook or Sykes website . We only had one car and used the space in front of the property, you have to do a few manoeuvres to turn your car around as the road is narrow and no turning spaces.

As a middle aged couple with three rescue dogs we have stayed in a number of holiday properties, this may be the best.
... The owners gladly facilitated a last minute date change on our part, but the Old Bakehouse sold itself once inside the door. Despite being 300 years old and in autumnal weather, the property was as warm as toast with its underfloor heating and numerous thermostats both downstairs and up. The sofas and bedding were super comfy and the electronic equipment was modern and hi spec - from the NEF cookers & Air Fryer to the smart tv's. Unusually - the kitchen held most things that you may need from premium coffee to brown sauce..... Parking out front was convenient for one and sometimes two cars, the rear garden was large, pictoresque and secure, the surroundings were 10/10 with easy walks steeped in history and a great Chef & Brewer pub (The Red Lion) just a 100 metre safe walk away. In balance, we couldn't not have asked for more. There are no ground floor rest room facilities which was fine for us, there is a good bathroom and ensuite double bedroom on the first floor. We would stay again in a heartbeat if returning to Wiltshire....

Fantastic, well equipped, cottage in an amazing location Clock Tower Cottage is in an amazing location, with fields all around and the Kennet And Avon canal a few minutesâ walk away.
It has its own secluded garden, access to a huge paddock, and is a really quiet and relaxing environment. We loved just sitting watching the wildlife, which included rabbits, red kites and buzzards. The owners, Mary and Martin, are lovely and couldnât be more helpful. They had lots of advice about the area, and things to do and see, and were able to recommend walks, local amenities, and pubs. The cottage itself is really well equipped, with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. There were lots of pamphlets and other information about things to do in the area, including a set of booklets describing local walks. The cottage is really spacious, especially the lounge, which has great views over the surrounding countryside, and everywhere was spotlessly clean and tidy. This is one of the best cottages we have stayed in, and we can highly recommend it. We will certainly be returning in future.

Thank you for the arrival gifts.
My wife, who is a vegan, thought bacon wasn't the best choice (what if the guests are Muslim, Jewish, and/or vegetarian/vegan?) but we were visiting friends in Newbury and left the bacon with them! I ate the eggs, and we enjoyed the apples. We had a trouble free week, except for the fridge, freezer, and rooter tripping off, and the hot water tripping off a separate time. We flipped the switches back up, and there were no recurrent events, thankfully. It was really quiet, which we loved, and despite the wettest of weeks had good views of red kites, jays and chiffchaff. Astonishingly, two young men from Hi-Low window cleaning service turned up on the wettest day of the week to clean the windows! The workers got soaked - the windows were already soaked!
