What our customers say about their holidays

The Hayloft (Ref.
1571) Lastingham, North York Moors We stayed at the Hayloft from 1st to 08th September, 2023, It was a very lovely place to stay, but we have mixed feelings about the accommodation!!!! Very similar to a review back in September 2021 {â" The Hayloft " Very friendly reception and helpful owner Very cosy cottage for two, in a good location. If upgrading is considered, a shower unit instead of over the bath, would be more attractiveââ} Our problem (a couple aged late 60s) with the shower is that it is over a Metal curved bottom Bath, which made it very very awkward to get into and out from!!!! also it was very very awkward to stand on the curved bottom, which made it very very uncomfortable to use, as we both had to support ourselves with a hand on the wall when we moved in the shower. The old Mira shower unit is adequate!!! But could be updated. To use as a bath !! the hot water is so slow it would take a very long time to fill!! Due to the water header tank (header tank combined with the hot water cylinder) is only being about 1 metre above hot water tap!!!!! We did not try to have a bath as we knew it would have taken ages to fill it. Other disappointments were the 2 large Red Cushions that I could smell and see that many other people had used them. And all 5 roof blinds need to be replaced as they are tatted and torn!!! One was held together with Gaffer tape, which I read on another review. Apart from the above we had a lovely week holiday here. Lastingham is a lovely quiet village with a very good pub to eat in, the moors and the surrounding countryside is amazing, Thornton Le Dale is a beautiful village as many of the other villages. It was easy to get to the coast and into York for a day on the park and ride. I found Alan very pleasant to chat too, and with updating the above, he could make the Hayloft totally amazing place to stay in. Many thanks Alan from Martyn and Susan. Ps. A photo of the bathroom would be a good idea on your ad.

I honestly hate writing bad reviews so if it's a little thing I don't bother but honestly.
I hated this place. Firstly this house is listed as dog friendly and nothing else on the listing but arriving dogs are not allowed upstairs and sofas needed to be covered to go on them. If this was disclosed on the booking I wouldn't have booked. Half the stove top didn't work for us the lady came out and checked as well and gave us a camping stove to use. And it would be fixed Tuesday and it wasn't. The backdoor had dropped so you had to slam the door to get it to close. The bathroom door doesn't lock and the shower was leaking and was pouring out from ceiling to the living room. And we weren't able to use the shower. The lady did come and grout it after a plumber was out but even waiting over 24 hours the gout wasn't set and was basically going down the drain. The tumble dryer wasn't working correctly. It was a washing machine tumble dryer in one and once it washed it would not dry. Also the hot water wasn't hot it was warm so we had to have Luke warm baths because we couldn't use the shower. The lady did say we should have told the plumber but at that stage we didn't know it was Luke warm and explained it's at 52° due to scalding but it didn't feel hot at all. We went away for a week relaxation and seemed like we were messaging every day and honestly hated the hassle. We were told she's nothing but good reviews for the property but I can't understand how there has been no complaints about everything and especially about the bath as there is water stains on the living room roof by the beams showing it's been a problem for a ongoing while and how she stated at the beginning they had just resealed the bath because of the leak and she said the grouting was a temporary fix

We loved our stay in the Hayloft.
Alan (the proprietor) is a really friendly man and he made us feel very welcome. He showed us around the accomodation and how to work the heating and hot water system. There is a large area of off-street parking and an outside area for sitting out on a nice day/evening. The accomodation has a two-seater sofa and an armchair, a small but well stocked galley kitchen (which we made use of most evenings) and a dining area all in the main reception room. There is a TV with a wide array of channels including Netflix, Prime and Youtube, as well as wireless internet - which you would need as the village has no/very little mobile network coverage. Thre is also a wood-burner and a large stock of logs, for those chilly evenings (which we didn't use on this visit). The double bedroom is a good size and very comfortable, and the on-suite bathroom is a large size. If you want a getaway location where no-one can get in touch with you, this is the place. The stream that runs along side the property is probably the loudest sound in the village - unless you count the sheep which roam everywhere. If you go out in the evening to the pub in the village, you will need a torch as there are no streetlights and it gets very dark. We have already decided that we plan to stay in the Hayloft again, as there were quite a number of English Heritage sights in the area, that we didn't get a chance to visit this time

Really Beautiful and Extremely Well presented Cottage I canât say enough positive things about this cottage.
The host Alison and Gerry were there to greet us upon arrival and are super nice and friendly. The cottage is just so well kept and you can see they pay so much attention to detail. The cottage was spotless upon arrival and a very thoughtful cake and milk was there to be enjoyed. They even left dishwasher tablets and clothes washing tablets. This came in so handy as we had just completed a 10 day cruise prior to our arrival and we so needed to wash our laundry. If I had to make any suggestions I would say an extra set of towels and a clothesline. Overall this is a really beautiful and perfect cottage for a couple to enjoy Thank You Ali and Gerry for letting us enjoy your perfect cottage Date of experience: 23 September 2023

We both thoroughly enjoyed our week's holiday at the Hayloft ( July 2nd - 9th, 2021).
The owners made us feel very welcome, and were always on hand should we need anything. We found the property extremely clean and comfortable, and the layout worked very well. Car parking was safe and secure, and we particularly enjoyed having the use of a barbecue, and the outside area with its seating and the stream running by. There is no shortage of places of interest to visit in the area, and we found plenty of tearooms, cafes and pubs with outside seating areas, where we felt safe. The village inn, The Blacksmith's, is excellent in this respect. We would recommend The Hayloft with confidence to anyone who is seeking a get-away-from-it-all break, and we look forward to returning. Barbara and Graham Chappell
