What our customers say about their holidays
Christopher - Verified booking
We have used Sykes many times and had some great holidays, but Burford Cottage was one of the best properties yet.
We had everything we needed for a week away. (Children aged 1 and 2), right down to plastic crockery for the kids. We couldnât fault a thing. The place was spotlessly clean and had all the little âextrasâ which make a huge difference, such as plenty of tea towels, hand soap, cleaning products, dishwasher tablets -and a fully stocked tassimo machine. We contacted the owners via text a couple of times and they responded promptly and were really friendly and helpful. Location-wise it was great. We had a âfreeâ week by visiting 12 National trust properties - with the longest drive we had being 40 minutes and the closest about 5 minutes - and having our usual weekly Ocado shop delivered on the first day. So lots of picnics for lunches. We took an extra high chair (there is one there). We didnât need to take a travel cot, as there is one there- but we did need to take our own bedding for this. Out of courtesy we took a piece of plastic to protect the carpet during mealtimes - which was lucky as the dining table is on carpet. There isnât a stair gate but the stairs twist after the first 3 at the top. We took a plug in night light which was handy for the landing area during the night - and advisable if you have little ones, as itâs quite dark once all the main lights are off. The cottage is off the main road on a well-kept development. There were gardeners working there during the week, mowing the grass etc. The parking space for the cottage is at the back, a short walk from the property, but there is space to load and unload closer by. It was so good weâll probably book again.

The property was in a nice location, close to Stratford, but far enough out to be quiet, with some local amenities such as a shop and restaurants.
The furnishings were nice and the sofas were comfy, and we liked the character of the property. We appreciated the 2 bathrooms, although the toilets used macerators and were very noisy. However, this is the most expensive 2 bedroomed property we have ever stayed in (presumably partly due to covid) and we felt there were some things lacking given the cost of the holiday. There were gaps at ceiling level between the 3 rooms which meant that noise travelled freely, making sleep difficult if anyone else was in the main living area. We felt there could have been more crockery as there were only 4 of a number of items. As it was the height of summer, an outdoor dining table and chairs with umbrella would have been a useful addition so that a meal could be eaten outside. As others have said the wifi was very poor, and we felt that the cleaning could have been better in some areas (eg the bedrooms which were dusty in places and had numerous spiders). Overall the space was quite small, probably better suited for a autumn/winter short break rather than a main summer holiday. Overall we have enjoyed our break and exploring the surrounding areas, in particular Warwick Castle which is only a 15 min drive away. Unfortunately the water taxi was not operating during our stay.

We were so looking forward to our stay at Ryepiece Cottage, only to have to feedback that it was disappointing.
Apart from it being a little tired and need of some attention in places, below are areas which we feel the property on this occasion let the standard down that we have become used to when using Sykes Cottages. This property was not cheap, at just over £200 a night, the following issues were disappointing: * kitchen drawers in front of the sink dirty, and just needed wiping down * bathroom mirror needed cleaning, again so easy to do but evidence that the property had not been prepared properly * pubic hair on top of the toilet and in the shower * bath and hand towels so heavily washed, rough to the touch and smelt musty and not fresh * three large dead hornets removed on arrival, again demonstrating a lack of proper cleaning * the microwave/combi oven seemed to only be operable as a microwave oven, meaning food we bought prior to arrival remained uncooked. There were no cooking racks. We are careful users of property, and safe to say we actually left the property in better condition. than we found it. We do not usually give such negative feedback. Please look into some refund option, as the standard was sub optimal.Â

We loved our stay here and gave taken our time over giving feedback because we weren't sure whether to mention the cleanliness as most of our experience was positive.
We know from speaking to the owner that she has a housekeeper and would like to advise she either hires another or speaks to her/him.. most of the cottage was lovely and clean but the kitchen table, chairs and under the table had crumbs from a previous guests stay and on the kitchen side when I wiped it with a wet kitchen roll in the corner behind the kettle it came away black.. this was enough to send us to the shop to buy cleaning products. My husband chased our child's pencil down the side of the sofa and it was full of crumbs too.. That being said the cottage was overall the perfect location for visiting the area and we did enjoy our stay here. We met the owner and she was lovely and very helpful. With a note to the WiFi as people have had problems in the past, while we were their the owner was in the process of updating the WiFi, this was completed on our second day and once done it workes perfectly and we had no issues. I would recommend this cottage to other people, the only reason we mention the cleaning is we think the owner is being taking advantage of by the cleaner.

My wife and I stayed for a week with our two boys, 4 & 7, at the end of August â22.
Megâs Cottage is lovely. All on one level apart from three steps up into one bedroom at one end. This bedroom has two single beds and was ideal for our boys. It has an en-suite shower room and hanging storage. At the other end is a double room with another en-suite shower room, with wardrobe and drawer storage. The rest of the cottage is open plan lounge, kitchen, dining room which is light, airy and well appointed. Really easy to find and to access. Next to a holiday park which has a bar and restaurant venue which had an outdoor cinema, kids play area and mini golf area. It also had a river taxi (6 people at a time) but there was often a long wait for this so we didnât use it. Great location as it was easy to drive to Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and surrounding areas like Bidford-on-Avon. Really quiet area too. Parking next to the cottage with a convenience store, pub and restaurants within walking distance. I would definitely recommend this cottage
