What our customers say about their holidays
Joannah - Verified booking
Heat adjustment buttons are up, down, and off (the light is very bright for sleeping).
Secondary glazing upstairs is on magnets, should you wish to open the windows. There's are no gauntlets with the fire, so when the handle gets hot, you have to manage with oven gloves. The fire extinguisher is hidden in a cupboard behind the sofa, and the two fire doors are very heavy for opening. The hook behind the dining room door is perhaps the best for coats. Cleaning products and items are spread across five cupboards, which is slightly inconvenient. If you are bringing your dog, then be aware that the garden isn't fully fenced behind the roadside rhododendron or the gate pillar; there is a wall beyond, but this could easily be hopped by our dogs (60mph road). The lower oven door doesnât align properly, so the glass catches. The pictures slide about on the walls as doors are opened and closed. The click clack drain plug for the bath doesn't work, and the toilet roll is really very cheap. I lost a pair of socks to the nails in the bedroom threshold strip. The garden tap is broken, as is the clothes line and garden shed window. The house is difficult to spot in the depths of winter; even with the outside light left on for reference. A courtesy light would have been nice when we arrived, just so we could see the key pad to open up. Perhaps gate marker lights would be a good investment? The building is definitely ready for a deep clean; the longer you stay, the more dirt you see, but you can't leave a note for change over staff without a pen and paper. Overall, this place is 80% good. It just doesn't quite live up to my national trust accreditation expectations.

- the stay was fine.
It was the accusations after. I paid a good amount of money to rent this property for the week and it was a busy stay. I took insurance out as when we stayed here before I knew glasses were broken when being placed in the sink. - we cleaned stripped the beds and towels and put them in the provided bag as asked. - accused of leaving a soaking wet towel that COULD of done damage to drawers, there was no damage. - the complaints from the cleaner after the stay were ridiculous. It was normal cleaning things that I may have missed but I was accused of things that werenât true. The cleaner had to do her job yet complained about it. I was accused of breaking the blind but the roller had come off and I explained I did not want to make it worst and it was an easy fix. I was also accused of breaking the freezer which was untrue. I was accused of stealing glasses not asked about them accused. - I was accused of leaving rubbish across the garden, this did not happen. - accused of leaving a residue of powder on the coffee table - it was sand from shells and crystals my child had collected from the beach. - I asked my teenager to take the recycling out and he put it in the wrong bin, the cleaner made a complaint about this. - overall the stay was good but the attitude from the cleaner and owners was unacceptable. I was basically accused of trashing the place and ruining new bedding and I asked for photos and the tiny spot of a mark was sent to me from accidental spilt drink - again I had insurance for this.

The cottage is very cosy and stylish.
However, there were a few things we didn't like: 1) There is no wall mirror in the bathroom. There is only a small mirror on the windowsill. Also, the hot water did not always work - we are not technically gifted - the landlord should have adjusted this better beforehand. Only the shower worked perfectly. 2) The bedroom on the upper floor cannot be ventilated as the windows are all locked. 3) The other windows in the house can't be operated either - some opened a little and you had to wedge a block of wood between them to keep them open. (We also opened the front door in the morning to air) 4) We missed a few coat hooks in the entrance area to hang up our outdoor clothes. 5) There is a huge garden - but no garden furniture. It would have been nice to be able to sit in the sun with a cup of tea. 6) There are no bowls for crockery in the kitchen. So you had to put everything in the cooking pots on the table. (Otherwise everything you needed was there). - It was well organised: The info folder did have a phone number for the manager, who you could have called if you had any requests or questions. But unfortunately my English language skills are not so good that I could speak fluently and make phone calls. Without question, the cottage is really beautiful! But the negative things .......

Enjoyed our stay, comfortable; bed and lots of equipment in the kitchen and also supplies of food and drink much appreciated.
The landlord,(Sean) was happy to come round and teach us how to use the gas oven. Good WIFI, phone signal a bity iffy at times. Some suggestions/quibbles. Could do with a doormat at the back and front doors. Pan brushes would also help. As with some loft conversions. mine included, there can be a problem with people not seeing the bit of wall that hangs down in to the bedroom and forgetting to duck as I did, with painful consequences. I have done it myself in my own home and there is no easy answer. The inward opening doors left the bathroom and upstairs bedroom a bit cramped but you can't do much about that. There was slight shortage of hot water at time, just enough for a bath, but only just. The stairs were a bit narrow, steep and also winding at the bottom. I am quite fit and that didn't affect me but have been tricky for an eighty something. Otherwise pleasant stay.

We had a lovely relaxing week at 5 Distillery Cottage .
The Cottage was cosy and comfortable with everything you needed in it. The welcome pack was extremely generous and Eddie our dog enjoyed his treats , the garden was secure and ideal for him , there are some lovely coastal walks right from your door step , Whitehill and Banff which are in walking distance or a few minutes drive away have everything you need from Shops , pubs or take always, however you you wish to stay in and cook you will not be disappointed with the well equipped kitchen We will definitely be returning despite the 8 hours travel , which we made part of the holiday as the scenery was spectacular Sean and Victoria texted us and made sure that we had everything we needed and we could contact them them if we had any issues I would highly recommend this Cottage Roger, Liz and Eddie
