There are several brooks and a river which run both through and near the village. These babbling waterways also offer spectacular waterfalls within walking distance of Askrigg; including Mill Gill Force. There are also plenty of paths to explore through the woodland, and on a nice day, it's worth packing a picnic so you can appreciate the area's natural beauty over lunch. The village itself is also worth exploring and it has a long history including being once famous for excellent clockmaking.
