What our customers say about their holidays
Mr Paul Johnson - Verified booking
Pebbles in Portreath is a fantastic property for people that holiday with dogs. We have stayed in many properties that accept humans and dogs. Pebbles works brilliantly for dog owners. The garden is totally secure, yep, totally. Very rarely even with properties that have an enclosed garden are they really dog proof. The garden is a very ‘clean’ area which reduces the amount of dirt that gets trampled in by dogs. The open plan living area with a sliding door to the outside makes it very easy to manage the dogs. If walking is your thing then you can enter the back garden by a side gate and hose down the dogs so they are clean before entering the property. Stair gates top and bottom ensure no rogue visits upstairs. We use gates at home so this was great to have in the property. There is plenty of room downstairs for our dogs’ crates without affecting the flow of the property so they can sleep how they are used to at home but our dogs are WCSs so crates for two labs might be a little tight. The human parts of the property have also been well thought out by the owners. The property is extremely well equipped. Plenty of crockery, cutlery and glassware. Some holiday rentals can be a little stingy but not at Pebbles. You could cook pretty much anything you wanted with the equipment in Pebbles. Here is plenty of space downstairs for a property of this size. The bedrooms are a good size and not cramped at all as can sometimes be the case with some holiday rentals. The welcome pack was very much appreciated. Especially the wine! Very nice touch. Croissants, milk, biscuits, tea etc all there for our arrival. The location of the property is very close to the harbour and beach but most properties in Portreath are. If Portreath is the sort of place you are looking for as a base for a holiday with your dogs you will not go wrong with Pebbles. One slight improvement, and it is the only thing I would change, would be a Dirt Trapper Mat by door to back garden for wet paws. We always travel with one anyway. We will certainly return to Pebbles in the future.

We had the most incredible Christmas at Flint Barn.
Two families came together to spend Christmas away for the very first time. 4 adults, 4 children ranging from 10 to 3 years old and 1 furry family member. A lot of planning went into our break and we were unsure how we would feel spending Christmas away from our homes. It was the best Christmas we have ever experienced. Upon arrival to Flint Barn we were stunned by how gorgeous it was. The photos had looked amazing and we were already excited for our stay, however no matter how good the photos appear the real deal is so much more amazing. Upon arrival we had some lovely gifts which were really appreciated and the doggy welcome pack was such a special touch. We read the story of Flint Barnâs renovation in the welcome pack and then it all made sense. We had already commented on how the holiday house felt so much more than that, it is so homely and it was clear someone had put a lot of thought and effort into all the little touches around the home. We had gone pretty prepared, even hiring a van to travel our items down (just in case Santa brought too many presents for us to fit in our cars home) but even so being there for Christmas dinner meant we needed lots of items for cooking and we were not let down. Weâve never been to a holiday home with so many every day items to hand! It feels like the home was a house, with someone behind it who cares very much about it and the experience that those staying there have. We couldnât have been more grateful for that. We will most definitely be back, hopefully for many more Christmases to come and would come every year if we could afford to! We have made some very special memories here and thank the owners for sharing such a beautiful home and arranging those very special touches!!!

I intend to write to you more fully.
We expected something very special for the price of this property and we did not think we got that. I think that the owners are resting on their laurels in that the position of the property is exceptional, and the fact that there is parking justifies the very high price. Whilst the kitchen is well equipped it is so badly designed as to be almost unworkable with the fridge down a bottleneck and almost impossible to get to. More to the point is the fact that the shower in the twin bedded room is simply not fit for purpose. It is not possible to turn it on and not be in the cubicle. You have to run through the gamut of freezing cold water to get to the desired temperature and the power of the shower is way too strong for the tiny size of the cubicle. In the other en suite bathroom there is no mirror ⦠nor are there any hand rails to help with the large step down into the bathroom. We failed to get any water flow in the family bathroom. We also discovered that the Draconian check in and check out times are a throw back to Covid and other properties have reverted to a more sympathetic pre-Covid times. I know a lot of people in the village of Portscatho many of whom have rental properties and they could not believe the price. The fact that the price was reduced by £1000 because it was not let in the preceding week left us feeling pretty fed up. I understand that this is a question of the ownerâs taste but the art work on the walls is simply ghastly and totally inappropriate for a rental property. It looks like the work of a student on crack cocaine; it is unsettling and horrible. All in all we were disappointed in what we thought was going to be a spectacular property.

It was our first holiday in Norfolk and we had a great time.
The house was off the beaten track which suited us fine as we like quiet. On first impressions the barn looked as advertised. We understand that it means a lot to the family, however it is quite tired in it's appearance. The sofas are smaller than they look on the pictures, difficult to sit comfortably when we all wanted to sit down after a busy day. The facilities in the kitchen were good but only one bin liner and 2 dishwasher tablets were provided which isn't adequate for 7 people. The bedrooms are comfortable, needs a mirror in the upstairs family room and a lamp as you can't turn the light off from the bed which means finding your way around in the dark. A couple of blinds were broken on our arrival not sure how long they have been like that. The iron didn't work either. It might be worth checking the electrics through the house as some of the lights were flickering too. Toilet rolls were cheap and as a result not enough provided for 7 people. In terms of the holiday we enjoyed Norfolk and had some great family time. In terms of value for money, this house needs some tlc if you are going to continue to charge your current prices.

The reviews that we had read prior to booking were accurate.
The bad points were: the incredibly overgrown garden and patio, front and back, a real mess so we couldn't use them at all; the house could have been cleaner particularly the kitchen utensils and it needs more crockery; the stairs (lots of quirky steps in and out of bathrooms) are very steep and should be highlighted in the description; all the furnishings and ornaments/artworks are very old and tatty, looks like a bunch of things that no one wanted. The kitchen island is absolutely huge to the point of making it difficult to move around when preparing food and the various utility rooms are full of junk. The good points were the location, and that's what you pay for - to be in the central village square walking distance from everything; the beds are very comfortable and the showers all work very well. I've used Sykes for years to book cottages and loved them all. This is the first time I felt the need to review one (negatively) - a prime location should not be an excuse to charge such a high rental when the house is not maintained properly.
