What our customers say about their holidays

I would say that this cottage was adequate and a good place to sleep but that was about it!
Starting with the positives, it was easy to find, directions were great and it is off a main road so no winding down roads for ages to get to it which is great after a long drive. The bed was also very comfortable! There was plenty of cups, plates etc. and having a fridge and facilities to make your own food was great (especially as there isn't any where within walking distance to eat). WiFi was good (and necessary as didn't have a phone signal at the house) Now onto the negatives... The whole house smelt of damp! It needs a really good airing. The people before us had clearly had the oil heaters on or the log burner but not aired the house properly as we could not shift the smell and it was embedded in the soft furnishings. The bathroom downstairs as well isn't the best. The shower has really low pressure and the angle is almost impossible to wash your hair and I am only 5ft 1 so you can imagine by husband struggled who is 6ft. We also found a bowl of rotting vegetables and salad in one of the kitchen draws which gave me reservations about how well the house was actually cleaned before we got there and promptly proceeded to anti-bac everything (with wipes i had brought myself). I also felt there was a lot of unnecessary "stuff" in the kitchen which with covid made me uneasy. Whilst it looked nice having a dresser with cups etc. and it was great to have plenty of cutlery etc. it really isn't necessary and I think they should strip things back to basics and then make sure they provide anti bac to wipe surfaces down etc. and it would make me feel more confident about the cleanliness of the house. The water also tasted funny which meant we went out to buy bottled water. I also think the TV could have been bigger and possible have DVD player or access to netflix. I also think the host could have been more organised with their welcome booklet offering advise on places to eat/drink/shop etc. I know you could argue that we could google it (which we did) but little things like that are what usually set the sykes cottages apart from staying in a hotel that you really feel well looked after! In summary if I had paid £60-£90 a night for this I would have been alright with the price but we paid £934.00 for 4 nights which frankly was a total rip off!

Had a truly memorable stay at â The Ingleâ which was definitely enhanced by beautiful warm weather for our entire stay.
The description was accurate so no surprises when we arrived. It is very tiny but the space available has been utilised well, and yes, the stairs are steep but you soon get used to them. Good shower and plenty of towels. Lovely comfy bed with fantastic views. The integral fridge is floor standing and the capacity is very minimal so I found it frustrating to use so just to be aware of this and also general storage space is mainly non existent. There is only one spotlight in the shower room and one evening as I put it on, it popped and fused the upstairs lighting circuit. I contacted Jo, the housekeeper, who was very helpful and managed to find out for us the location of the fuse box, and, after finding a spare bulb in the kitchen cupboard, we were back up and running again. It was Summer Bank Holiday during our stay so extremely busy in the town but so nice to escape the crowds and get back to The Ingle for some peace and tranquility and âthose viewsâ The walks uphill from the back of the cottage were great with lots of options, also the ferry boat across to Fairbourne but just being there was a tonic in itself. No more to be said as the views say it all!!

Had a comfortable stay with gorgeous views and a perfect location.
Kitchen was really well equipped and was great to include an iron and hairdryer. I took my own as this wasnât mentioned. Dog bed was a nice touch but quite smelly so I put it through a wash before using. Bathroom was great and a lovely shower and soft towels. Lounge was really spacious and stunning views and good wi fi throughout. Unfortunately we got a parking fine despite displaying the permit when on main car park in Dollgellau so please be warned of this. Bedrooms were light and spacious although shutters did let in too much light from outside so would be better with blackout curtains or blinds? There was also lots of noise from the Last Inn on Friday and Saturday nights. A little shelf or cupboard next to beds would be helpful as any items had to go on the floor as there was no where to put them. Key safe for key is quite stiff to open. Overall a great stay with good facilities, ideal if you donât really want to drive anywhere and donât mind lots of stairs as everything is within a few mins walk. Would recommend.

There is a lot of space for a couple.
A small bedroom / shower room in the "shepherd's hut" and a add on kitchen / living room on the side. There is a generous amount of usable space outside and many seating options - a swing seat, a table and chairs, a bench with a coffee table, another table and chairs, two loungers on the lawn, two loungers by the stream and a bench by the stream. All of the furniture - inside and out - is in good shape However you want to sit around - in the sun, out of the sun, inside, out, etc etc there is an option. For a couple of days it was quite rainy but we were comfortable in the living room area I think the description of the walk to the beach says 20 minutes. I would say it is more like 5 minutes over the dunes. We could not see the sea from the hut but we could hear it! The beach is amazing, wide, golden sand. When the sun sets, it is over the sea Generally it is in a good place to use as a base, Cader Idris is a short car ride away. The train station is a 10 minute walk

We arrived late on a Friday afternoon, we had a look around the cottage and was disappointed with our first impressions.
The first thing noted was the condition of the cooker top was dirty looking. We set about cleaning the c00ker top as best we were able. We then decided to inspect the bedroom and was really upset, the bed appeared to look clean but when we pulled the throw back there was several woodlice in between the sheets! we removed the bed sheets and noted a stain on the sheets and pillow. The issues with the woodlice did not improved. There were other items noted, one of the chairs was broken, the toilet seat was not secure, to try and resolve the woodlice issue we moved the bed and noted that the floor area below the bed was disgusting. There was a travel trunk in the living room which we moved to retrieve a pack of playing cards and it was also noted that the area had not been need cleaned. WE WOULD APPRECIATE THE OPPERTUNITY TO DISCUSS THESE ISSUES WITH THE OWNERS PRIOR TO DECIDING TO PUBLISH OR NOT PUBLISH OUR REVIEW.
