What our customers say about their holidays

  • Amanda - Verified booking

Sykes are massively letting down this owner.

Given the competition out there for letting agents I’d have thought they’d be hot on. We won’t be booking through Sykes again. Firstly the property was showing available a few days prior to arrival so we contacted Sykes to see if we could arrive early. 3 webchats and 4 phone calls later and still no answer so we arrived on our given day missing out on a few extra days and the owner on extra revenue. We were also promised the twins would be made in to doubles only to find out this isn’t even possible. Secondly, on arrival the property was not cleaned to a good standard and so the Housekeep is also letting down the owner. We sent the images to Syke; many plates caked in crusty food where they hadn’t been checked after being put away from the dishwasher. The kettle was thick of lime scale, the downstairs look had a urine stains on the bowl under the lid and bedding under a single bed that had been missed. The stair gate had still not been fixed following several previous guests comments, the tread at the bottom of the main stairs has come away and is shop and the windows very dirty. When reported to Sykes the response was utterly bland and non caring. Don’t get me wrong - NONE of the issues we experienced detracted away from the enjoy of the property. The house is amazing the views and space breathtaking! We simply cleaned ourselves and whilst this was frustrating we just got on with it. As we enjoyed the house so much we again asked Sykes if we could possibly stay longer. Greedily they came back to us with over £600 for two extra nights, totally ignoring the images and feedback we’d given previously. A relative who was with us works regularly and independently with many property owners to ensure they get the best occupancy levels and revenue. In the past he’s placed many cottages with Sykes and since removed them all to other suppliers as they just don’t deal with guests well enough. In summary, this house is in a perfect location, well equipped, has great space, wonderful for coastal walks, stunning views and has a great feel. However Sykes massively disappointed us with their incredibly poor service and in turn have let down the property owner.

    Family Christmas break.

I would first like to start with the positives: Anna the owner text the day we were arriving and was very quick to respond to any queries we had A lovely hamper was left in the kitchen for us and was very welcome The house was very spacious and perfect for us as a family Plenty of seating in the living room with comfy sofas, and a large table Kitchen is very well equipped and the oven works well- which was a blessing as we cooked Christmas dinner! Bedrooms spacious, beds comfortable and everywhere was clean. Fabulous views Pub is great and happily welcomes children and dogs, and the walk down to the beach from there is lovely. Negatives: I feel it should state in the description how narrow the gates and the lane is leading up to the house. We all have 4x4’s of varying sizes and it was very tight, a bigger car than ours would really struggle. We had a Tesco delivery and the van couldn’t get through- we had to go down in one of the cars and transfer the shopping. The heating was off when we arrived, and took quite a while to heat up the house. To be fair once it had been on a while the place was toasty- especially when we got the fire going. It would just have been more welcoming if the house had been warm when we arrived. The description states ‘a walk to the pub’ -well certainly not with a toddler over fields and in bad weather. I’d class a walk to a pub as 10-15mins, the pub in question is much further than that Do not push shut the wooden front door, you will never open it again! Lovely as the house is, it looks a little tired and needs some TLC All in all we had a lovely time, even though the weather was awful, but for us the property was too remote

The location was spectacular and, with a few changes, the house could be too.

We arrived to a power cut in a storm and unfortunately could not locate any candles or firewood in the house. After 30 mins searching a huge house with my phone torch, I gave up and decided to go to the supermarket to buy wood and candles. We were later informed that there were candles in a dresser in the snug but this was too late. The promised firewood in the description turned out to be 2 bags of kindling in the outhouse and no fire lighters. I think a fire should be made up, ready to light in winter maybe. At the very least, logs should be ready in the basket. We arrived and 5.30pm in the freezing cold driving rain and the power was restored at around 10.30pm. I appreciate power cuts can’t be avoided. Once the power was back, we could start our weekend in earnest. The house is spacious, especially for two families as we were able to take an end of the house each. Once we could access the hot water, there was plenty. The bathrooms could do with being updated (weak power showers and wobbly toilet seats) but they were clean. The house heats up well and is cosy for the most part (two bedrooms’ radiators maybe need bleeding as they stayed cool). The outside space is great and the view is fabulous. The improvements are minor but would greatly impact the experience. Soap, washing up liquid, more tea towels, new toilet seats, power cut pack and firewood: all would be greatly appreciated in this uniquely located holiday home.

We knew we were going to fall in love with Pant Yr Hyman from the moment we spotted it in the distance.

From it's beautiful clifftop location to the welcoming, comfortable and well equipped interior, the property didn't disappoint in any way. We were able to enjoy gentle walks down to the cove, invigorating swims and rock pool explorations when the weather was fine; wild and windy coastal walks to local pubs when the weather was on the turn; and cosy time hunkering down with family and friends in the property when the weather was more extreme, watching movies, playing games and listening to the sound of the ocean crashing outside. The house enjoys a spot that is surrounded by nature, allowing peace and quiet and stunning views. It feels remote, yet shops and restaurants, pubs and activities are all within easy reach, and for those looking for more adventure and are happy to travel a little further, Snowdonia is reachable in well under an hour. The coastal path literally passes the door and coasteering opportunities are excellent in the area. The house itself was perfect for our family of 4 and our friends' family of 4, with plenty of space for everyone, including a lovely area outside to watch the sunset. The amount of thought that has gone into ensuring that the house has everything you need is evident and it was clear that any minor issues that have arisen over the summer season have been addressed promptly by the owners. Pant Yr Hyman is a real gem to be enjoyed in all seasons and we can't wait to return.

Hi Anna, Thanks for a wonderful holiday in your lovely house.

Everything was as described - very fresh, spacious and well-equipt. The beds were comfy, the kitchen had plenty of storage space and the garden was lovely - full of unusual, beautiful flowers. We had some fabulous weather but even when it was grey and mizzly we used those days to go out and about to explore different bays and ancient sites. (A large map of Anglesey on the wall might be a nice addition?) My family are all fit and healthy and they found the house really comfortable, but I struggle with arthritis, so if anyone asks you it might be worth mentioning that the house isn't ideal for people with mobility problems. For example: the settees were too low and deep for me to use (a high-seated upright armchair would have been ideal). I couldn't manage the stairs (a second banister might have made this possible). I couldn't use the shower because the one in the downstairs bathroom was over the bath and I couldn't get into the bath to use it and the toilet was very low (a couple of grab rails would have been great). However, I realise that I'm in the minority of visitors here and these were my problems, not yours! All of our vehicles (including a van) managed the narrow gateways and lanes with care, and the spectacular views, isolated location and general feel of the house helped to make it a brilliant holiday overall. Thanks again, Penny Burns.
