What our customers say about their holidays

The grocery welcome pack was a nice and âwelcomeâ surprise.
Hot tub well heated and accessible. Property was clean and tidy inside. However the property in need of some TLC (we had a constant dripping tap in kitchen-not able to be repaired during our stay, despite reporting on arrival, however owner did explain reason for this). Outside of the property needs a bit of a spruce up (lots of cobwebs and general wear & tear, gutter constantly dripping over bifold doors & not able to open bifold doors as they were extremely stiff- we are use to opening them as have them at home!). Lots of dead insects/daddy long legs between shutters/windows in bedroom. Outdoor furniture cushions wet and not able to be used as cover used but not secured & no ability to store cushions inside. Extremely hot and provision of a fan/fans would have been extremely welcome in the heat as the lodge is like a greenhouse with lots of glass. Not able to access outside bins (shed locked with 2 padlocks and no keys provided). Not able to operate TVs in any bedroom & no instructions provided in information pack. Visitor information pack out of date⦠I.e. states property let by âcrabtree&crabtreeâ not âSykes cottagesâ, recommends a restaurant in Bamburgh (Mizen Head Hotel) that has been shut down for well over 18 months! Hot tub operational info doesnât relate to the hot tub in situ.

A great week in a lovely property, marked by its high-end finish and presentation and set in a lovely sheltered and quiet location in the old quarry, with wonderful views to the castle at Bamburgh across the glorious rolling fields. A well appointed kitchen, comfortable lounge space and bedrooms, good bathrooms (just lacking floor mats) and a great decking area. A lovely place to be and to relax in. Our only problem occurred with the glass gate onto the deck from the car parking area. Being required to support the heavy safety glass of the gate, the hinges for this gate had worked loose from their anchor in the wall. This meant the gate dropped an inch or so, began catching on the decking and being a risk to bare toes, and that the screws holding it to the wall began to come away, bringing pieces of render with them. We stopped using the gate as a result and walked around the longer way instead. We reported the issue to Orginal Cottages who were helpful and a maintenance visit did some repairs (we were out when this took place). We continued to avoid using the gate just in case. This was a relatively minor situation but important nevertheless. Overall, a fine place to spend a week, a great base for exploring coastal Northumberland, and a comfortable home for holidaying in.

Bathroom bin hadn't been emptied before arrival of women's sanitary products - clear plastic bag didn't help.
Dining room table surface was sticky which no amount of cleaning resolved. Bedding, cushions and placemats were stained making use very uncomfortable. Whilst it appreciated that pets were allowed, the fact the cottage smelled of wet fur for those who do not have pets is unacceptable. Perhaps the condition of the bedding etc is partly to blame? The cottage needs blinds on its south side, first for privacy and secondly due to sun streaming in onto the TV not allowing the children to see what's on and heat reduction. The aerial didn't work as couldn't even get BBC channels. More care needs to be supplied to ALL guests using their online TV accounts on the smart TV as numerous account were open for potential exploitation!!! Given that COVID allowed the owner to rectify all those sorts of issues before making the cottage available again, makes the whole experience disappointing. Even financially, the cottage was fully booked weeks before our arrival and months thereafter, thus the cost of cleaning and/or replacements, given the cottage price bracket, is unacceptable. Overall, given its potential, a very disappointing experience.

Firstly I would recommend this lodge it has fantastic views of the castle. It is on a quiet road which is the back road to Budle Bay. It does have other lodges either side of it so not really private if that’s what you want. I did ask up front about privacy so was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t more private as I was told it was the most private one, having said that we would return and not be put off by this. I agree with previous reviews regarding having to turn on the boiler to make sure you have hot water etc as this is not anything that you are advised of before check in or even as and when you arrive. It took quite sometime to get through to the office to understand why we had no hot water on the first day. The main en-suite bedroom is only a double bed and so quite small but we are used to at least a king size bed. The other issue we had was a very over flowing refuse bin which clearly had not been emptied for a few rentals after making the office aware they did attend to it the next day. All in all a lovely place to stay but could be even better with just small attention to detail issues which could be avoided.

The Lodge is in a good location about 1.5 miles outside of the village. It has excellent views from the open plan ground floor and from the decking outside towards Bamburgh Castle - better than most other Lodges on this site (the view was key to us choosing this one). The Lodge was clean, the beds and seating comfortable and making the most of the open-plan layout. The location is great for visiting sites in Northumberland - Alnwick; Lindisfarne, are within half an hour and the excellent Castle at Bamburgh on your doorstep. The Lord Crewe hotel in Bamburgh is excellent for food and service. Don't miss (on a calm day) a trip to the Farne Islands from nearby Seahouses to see the puffins (if right season) and seals. We had excellent weather, and with the Lindisfarne National Nature reserve extending to the bay just over a mile away from the Lodge, plenty of opportunities for both birdwatching and beach walks. We loved the Lodge and the area and would love to come back another time. Thoroughly recommended - we went as a party of two couples.
