Choosing the best beaches in Cornwall is a bit of a challenge. This coastline doesn’t really do average. Instead, you’ll find huge Atlantic bays, tucked-away coves and golden sands that wouldn’t look out of place much further south – easily some of Britain’s most beautiful beaches.
Some are made for surfing, where the waves roll in and the cafés buzz with post-swim chatter. Others are quieter – the kind of places where the soundtrack is gulls, sea breeze and the occasional splash from a brave cold-water dip.
We’ve tried to narrow it down, and picked eight standouts worth building a trip around. Find your favourite stretch of sand, then book a nearby cottage and turn a quick beach visit into a proper Cornish escape.
Cornwall’s most famous stretch of sand doesn’t do subtle. Big Atlantic rollers, surf schools in full swing and a line-up that draws pros and plucky beginners alike. Even if you’ve never touched a board, it’s brilliant for wave-watching and blustery walks. Cafés perch above the beach for post-surf refuelling.
Golf course views, sea air and Fistral Beach practically on your doorstep – this stylish ground-floor apartment makes Newquay breaks effortless. Inside, there’s a bright open-plan living space, two comfortable bedrooms and a private patio perfect for morning coffee or sunset drinks. Ideal for surfers, golfers and beach lovers alike.
All swooping cliffs and impossibly clear water, Porthcurno looks like it belongs much further south. The sand is pale, the sea turns aquamarine on sunny days and the drama comes courtesy of the clifftop Minack Theatre. Arrive early in summer and bring your camera.
Tucked away on the wild Penwith coast, Higher Roskestal feels wonderfully off-grid. Think wooden beams, deep sofas and the kind of quiet you only get out on the moors. After cliff walks and sea air, gather everyone back at the farmhouse to swap stories and unwind. Remote, characterful and brilliantly Cornish.
Sheltered, sandy and a short stroll from town, this is St Ives at its most inviting. Calm waters make it a favourite with families, while the backdrop of whitewashed houses and bobbing boats keeps things postcard-pretty. Grab lunch overlooking the bay, then wander into the galleries.
Front-row views over St Ives harbour are the headline act at Zareba. Spread across three stylish floors, this sea-facing townhouse is all about light, space and that ever-changing coastal backdrop. Start the day with coffee overlooking the bay, wander down to Porthminster Beach, then return for sunset drinks on the terrace.
Two miles of golden sand means space. Even in peak season, you can usually find your own patch. It’s a go-to for surfers, kite flyers and anyone who measures a good day out in salty hair and sandy toes. At low tide, the beach seems to go on forever.
Big skies, sea views and front-row seats for those famous Newquay sunsets – this spacious first-floor apartment makes the most of its coastal setting. The private balcony is the star of the show, perfect for morning coffee or an evening drink after the beach. With several sandy bays within walking distance, days here naturally revolve around saltwater, sand and spectacular scenery.
This is the one you’ve seen all over Instagram. Jagged rock stacks, white sand and sea in fifty shades of blue. Part of the Lizard coastline, it feels wild and elemental. Time your visit with the tide to explore caves and secret corners.

Once home to lighthouse keepers, this characterful cottage now offers a wonderfully wild base for coastal adventures – and it’s dog friendly too.
If your idea of bliss is dunes, big skies and barely-there crowds, Gwithian delivers. The sands stretch towards Godrevy Lighthouse, with space for sandcastles, surf lessons and sunset strolls. It’s also a winner for dog walks outside peak restrictions. Simple, scenic, seriously good.
Tucked away near Hayle, Godrevy Cottage is all about slow coastal living. Beach days at nearby Gwithian, seal spotting at Godrevy Point, then back to your own private hot tub as the evening rolls in. With cosy interiors, a crackling wood burner and a sunny garden for BBQs, it’s an easy-going Cornish escape.
Close to Padstow but far from frantic, Constantine Bay is all about easy-going beach days. There’s room to spread out, reliable surf for the keen and rock pools to keep younger explorers busy. The surrounding headlands make it a cracking spot for coastal path wanders.
Morning swims, salty breezes and sunset dinners on the terrace – life moves at a wonderfully easy pace at Seaspell Beach House.
