What our customers say about their holidays

Location was lovely, and next door neighbour was nice.

They’re the only positives of Tiptoes Lodge. The lodge on arrival STANK of stale smoke in every room. I wasted so much of my perfume on trying to conceal it but it only helped for an hour or two. The smoke set off my asthma, and as I use a CPAP mask, I couldn’t sleep for the air being pumped directly into my lungs. The sofa recliner doesn’t work on one end, and the other end has been sat in so much that it leaves you sitting on a slant. There was rubbish like bottles, hair bobbles, glow stick etc under the sofa when we moved it round to view the TV better. There was also rubbish like wrappers and hair under the bedside table in the twin room which we moved to put the beds together in. Someone’s old socks under the twin beds. The twin beds are tiny and only suitable for children up to early teens. Beds were so squeaky that we had to tighten the bed frames to help with the noise. The dishwasher was filthy, had mouldy food in the bottom, the filter was full of old onions and peppers. Dirty water lining the bottom, so wasted a dishwasher tablet trying to clean it once I’d washed the filter out. It made the whole lodge smell of bin juice when we first opened it up. The curtains have mould on the bottom of them in the master bedroom and living area. The hot tub is a hazard in itself. No bar to fold the lid back on - we’re a couple with disabilities and this was really painful to remove and put back on as most of the handles have snapped. Once you’re in, it’s lovely but no cleaning tablets left, so it got dirtier and dirtier as the holiday went on, as no one comes to maintain it. The directions were quite vague, and trying to find the key safe is impossible to find in the dark when we checked in later in the evening. Unfortunately, Sykes cottages landline and mobile were closed so couldn’t get help as all staff had left for the evening in the main restaurant. We spent more time cleaning than we did relaxing. We checked out a day early because we couldn’t stand it anymore and checked in to a wonderful pub in Lupton to make up for the holiday. Would not recommend to anyone, especially when the owner refused to agree to any form of compensation. Sykes did their best but even with photographic evidence, it didn’t help. There are so many beautiful places to stay around this area, go anywhere else but here!

First impression of booking was that the owners were contactable and very pleasant and helpful.

First impression of 27 Yealands Cherry Tree Lodge: upon entering it was nice and warm BUT... an unpleasant 'sprouty' smell which pervaded the entire week despite using air freshener spray. Also squashed flies on the window above the dining table which i managed to clean off. Also many live flies on the window above the dining table. Also flies in the double bedroom, en suite, bathroom and corridor. I bought some fly spray but more came back every day. I still came back every day to dead flies, especially a row of dead flies under the dining table. I vacuumed up the dead flies every day. Unfortunately I first had to empty the vacuum cleaner, which was rammed full of dust and fluff. I decided to wipe over the top shelf of the shelf unit in the bathroom before I put my specs there, which resulted in a black hand print on the wipe I'd used - which did not bode well. I had to use kitchen paper to wipe off the pools of yellow oil on the pizza tray and also on the baking tray, then wash in hot water, before I could heat up a pizza in the oven. Here is my fly poem/song (to the tune of ten green bottles)..... Ten dead flies are sitting on the floor, ten dead flies are sitting on the floor. If I hadn't used the fly spray, there would have been lots more. Ten dead flies all sitting on the floor"

Hi, Directions to the lodge were a bit ambiguous, starting point was from A6 which is quite a long road.

Better starting point would have been junction 35 on the M6 especially if not familiar with the area. Finally found the lodge and pleasantly surprised how spacious and cleaned it was. Well maintained and well equipped. Site was clean and pleasing to the eye. Soon found the TV wasn’t receiving a signal for any terrestrial channels and on demand channels were limited. The TV remote didn’t work either. There were no instructions on how to hook up to the free WiFi so had to rely on using phone data to use the internet. Pointed this out to Sykes and they promised to contact owner to remedy these faults but after a couple of days said they couldn’t get hold of them so nothing was done. Good job it wasn’t anything serious! Would have helped if there were written instructions on how to operate the microwave, turn on the heating, using the hot tub and operate the TV. Also, some tips on where to eat, local attractions etc. One last whinge, the two single beds aren’t really suitable for large adults but for children up to early teens. Apart from the above, it didn’t stop us from having a nice break in the Lake District as we only used the lodge as a base in the evening. Would I use Tiptoes Lodge again? Probably not. And Sykes Cottages? The jury is still out.

Not sure who ls responsible for this, but when we arrived we collected the Lodge keys from the key safe.

On the keys was a fob to lift the barrier so the car could get through. However there was no where to scan the the fob to open the barrier, we were then told we needed a code to open Barrier, which someone kindly gave us. Sykes cottages didn't make us aware of this?. Also big health and safety issue with Hot Tub. In order to get into the hot tub the lid had to be removed each time, as the lid had got no form of hinge we had to lift it to the ground, and lift back up each time to cover Not good for a 70 yr old and daughter. Accident waiting to happen. Also the tub was not maintained through the holiday, no cleaning solutions added, so by the time a few days had passed, it wasn't fit to get in. Another health issue. Other than that the Lodge is beautiful and the setting is perfect. Spoilt a bit by the 2 issues. Would appreciate your feedback on this.

Gorgeous place not overlooked & the lake area is so nice.

lovely & clean & attention to detail inside with nice modern touches, ornaments to make it feel homely & the biggest TV I’ve seen! Spacious, loads of storage & nice little seating area on the deck, which is enclosed for dogs. Good little welcome pack too. You can hear the traffic from the M6 & busy A road, not that it bothered me & it means it’s so easy to get to. Couple of things that I didn’t take as I assumed they would be provided is a hairdryer & washing up liquid so we missed those & my daughter was gutted we couldn’t get the led lights working around the TV unit as shown on the pictures, couldn’t find any details on how to switch these on. it’s a bit of a surprise that the park do not recycle the rubbish, but that’s on the park. All in all lovely relaxing stay in the lovely lodge & I would return for another visit.
