What our customers say about their holidays

Property was as described and well presented when we arrived.
The photo of the front of the outside makes it look on a steep road, itâs hilly but not too bad until you walk to the local Pub/Railway station, now that is very steep. We walked it a few times and as long as you have decent walking shoes on and donât have mobility problems you should be ok. One of the neighbours approached me within 5 mins of arriving because I was parked on their side of the road about to unload, They said I was blocking access, which to be fair I was, but there were no road markings or signs advising and in the dark in a strange place it wasnât immediately obvious. She didnât seem happy when I said I would unload before moving, but we had driven for 3 hours and wasnât going to be bullied a local who is obviously hacked off when people park outside her house. We ended up having to park further back up the street which was no problem in the end. The rooms were nice especially the conservatory which was a lovely place to chill in the afternoon as it went dark. Staff at the pub were nice and friendly and do food Wed - Sun. Only one slight negative - though Iâm a bit conflicted about it. There is a gas/electricity usage monitor in the kitchen, which on the one hand is a good idea to see what you are using, but I felt it puts a bit of undue pressure on visitors to be aware of how much the power has cost that day/week. Definitely worth staying at, train takes about 30 mins into Whitby and there are lots of quality pub/restaurants in the area, which you would probably need to drive to, and if you have bright sunny weather (though chilly) like we had, you will have a lovely time (youâll still enjoy it even if you donât have decent weather). I would have fed back so of the more negative issues directly to the owner but there were no contact details so had to put them on here instead.

The cottage was really pretty, very clean and tidy and smelt lovely when we arrived, so clean and fresh!
The beds were comfy and the shower was hot and towels were fluffy and clean. Decor and artwork were in keeping with the style of the property and the TV was a good size. The ONLY reason I've marked down by 1 point on the listing accuracy, is I think it should be mentioned about the very steep and potholed lane up to the property. Some cars wouldn't make it up there, so there needs to be some kind of prior warning before arrival. Thankfully we went with our friends in their estate car, but our lower sports car would have struggled. In other feedback comments we'd make are: a) There is no cupboard space for food. We were okay, we didn't buy much in but if a family wanted food for everyone, there's no room to store anything other than the fridge and freezer. We had to leave our food on the worktops, which meant there wasn't much space for preparing breakfast, and we didn't have much. b) Although the latch internal doors were quaint and suited the decor, the latches were very loud and hard to open, and some wouldn't shut from the outside of the room. Tricky when you have to go to the loo during the night and wake everyone up opening/closing doors. But generally, we thought it was a lovely cottage, great layout, good heating/hot water and would recommend.

The property has lovely views over the valley to the range of hills and being high up and on the end is quite open (to the wind as well !
). It was clean and tidy but there were a number of issues After a four hour drive in the cold and rain it was very disappointing to find that no heating had been left on and it took several hours to warm up. The property felt unwelcoming not least as we had sort of hoped for something if only a pint if milk or a few fresh flowers to show the owners cared. The second bedroom had one bed hard against a radiator and the third housed the noisy boiler. As the shower is over the bath a grab handle on the wall would have facilitated easier access and would be a safety feature. The timbered ceiling downstairs has no central light which would have enabled easier reading and doing puzzles etc.. All the chairs lacked pads on unforgiving wooden seats. While the agent describes the uphill drive they fail to mention this is on a heavily repaired and seriously bumpy single track of only passable quality. Finally the TV has Netflix and other subscription services though this was not in the write up.

Very compact, but beautifully finished and presented.
We had no complaints about its cleanliness when we arrived but when we did our farewell clean through there were a couple of points that made us wonder whether the cleaner is assiduous as should be, so marked it down a bit. It's so easy to clean it would be tempting to skimp. It was a warm week, without being brilliantly sunny like most of England. Nevertheless the central heating, which was programmed to be on, made the cottage too warm at night and we turned it off. The cottage info sheet correctly informs bin collection is on Monday, but the blue recycling bin was not collected that day. When is it collected? This should be added to info.

We had an enjoyable stay.
The property was warm and comfortable and good for 2 people (+ our small dog). Thereâs a pub opposite and a local store too which was handy. Parking is on the road which worked out fine for us but it was quite full occasionally. We always managed to get a spot directly outside near the bus stop, Itâs a great location for visiting Robin Hoods Bay(15-20min walk) Whitby and the surrounding area. If you donât want to drive then the bus is a good option with the bus stop virtually on the doorstep. £4 each (as of Oct 2024) gets you right into the centre of Whitby and back. It also runs past other coastal attractions both north and south.
