What our customers say about their holidays
Paul - Verified booking
We selected this property to have a "change of scene" break having been at home since end of March this year owing to pandemic, this property is secluded, set well away from the madding crowd.
It is rare that a holiday rental property description and pictures meet fully with reality, we can say that this property not only met but exceeded expactations. It is spacious, well maintained, clean and comfortable, plenty big enough for four adults. Beds are extremely comfortable, with good "wake up" showers in bathrooms, the walk in shower en-suite with double bedroom is large enough for the more ample framed person. The second bathroom has a good shower located over a bath. The kitchen is well equipped, with an electric oven and a gas hob, we are not used to cooking with gas but were impressed once we mastered flame control. A full size fridge/freezer easily accomodated all the fresh groceries we brought with us, ample cupboard space for stowing away tinned/dry goods. Lounge is very comfortable. At the latter end of our break the weather turned chilly we can vouch that the heating system is simple to use, (turn of a dial thermostat), and very effective throughout lodge, it makes this accommodation very suitable for the cooler months of the year. The first half of our week the sun shone, in fact it was very warm, the decked areas are a lovely place to sit during both day and evening, as lodge faces south, with far reaching views across Dartmoor. There is a four seater table on decking and a parasol is stored in hallway, for use with patio table. Although the lodge itself is set on one level there are a set of steps to access property via the decked area. Lodge 11 has a single designated parking space, but if you are a party with more than one car additional parking is located on the other side of the lodge. For shopping, Tavistock is a few minutes drive away and there is a superb, high quality, farm shop called "Strawberry Fields" which also has a 200 seat cafe in the village of Litton a 15 minutes away, also highly recommend the Peter Tavy Inn again about a 15 minute drive. Lodge location is right on the Devon/Cornwall border with plenty of places of interest to visit on day trips. We will definitely look to book this lodge again for future breaks.

Well what can I say about our stay….. nothing but positives…. Firstly, how wonderful to meet Martin & Jakki. I had the pleasure of hearing about their journey to build the cabin. As individuals and a couple they are fantastic, lovely people, they really shine. All their efforts, time, planning, energy, blood, sweat and (probably) tears have paid off. They should be extremely proud of the cabin; it is not only aesthetically beautiful, but super cosy, comfortable, clean, and all the equipment you need. The attention to detail is wonderful and they have done a fantastic job. Whether you have a dog or not, I would highly recommend a stay here, but Place Farm Cabin is very canine friendly if you are travelling with a furry companion. Great location for exploring the beautiful Dartmoor National park and being in nature, and Devon in general, but close to amenities. I had a truly restorative break, I’m so grateful. Anything I needed / questions, they were super responsive and helpful. I’d only been there a couple of hours when I enquired if I could stay longer; unfortunately not this time, as there were new guests arriving on my departure. Had I been able to stay an additional night or two; no hesitation. I was sad to leave, but I’m already looking at the calendar to see when I can return. Martin & Jakki you have gone above and beyond, you deserve all the good reviews & positive things coming your way. Nothing but good vibes and a BIG THANK YOU. Look forward to seeing you both soon, Bindi The Big Dog & Hannah

We had a wonderful week in Number 11.
It is very well appointed, with everything we needed to make our stay very enjoyable. The furnishings and decor are tasteful, the lounge furniture is perfect, with comfortable sofas. I am always concerned about a strange bed, as I have a problem with my back, but I slept well, the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped, again with everything we needed, we cooked and ate in most evenings. The bathroom and en suite are very pleasant. The huge TV, good supply of DVDs and books are a plus. We had glorious weather but had it been wet we would have been quite happy staying in. As it was we sat out on the decking with a glass of wine in the evenings. The site is in an idyllic spot, surrounded by picturesque countryside, but just a short drive from Tavistock. The folder of local information on shops, eating places etc. was very helpful. All in all we were very pleased.

We had the most fabulous stay at the cabin. Martin and Jakki are truly wonderful and were incredibly helpful, friendly and just lovely, lovely people but never overly present unless we needed. The cabin is stunning. Utterly exquisite and the attention to detail is second to none. Martin's craftsmanship is staggering and they've made a truly remarkable property. We stayed with out Border Collie, Mack, and he loved having so much space to run and play int he front garden, as well as the odd car to chase!! There were no sheep in the field out the back so we were able to play ball etc out there whilst taking in the lovely views. It was a shame we couldn't use the back of the property as the BBQ and seating area looked great but it was December. We will most definitely be back for another visit when time allows.

When we arrived we had a lovely warm welcome from Jakki and Martin and we were stunned at how beautiful the cabin was, every detail had been thought through. The furniture was hand made by Martin and are all beautifully crafted. We had some lovely home made scones with jam and cream made by Jakki and they were delicious. The cabin has everything you need and is perfect for a cosy stay away. There is a lovely log burner to keep you warm and toastie in the evening and the bed is really comfortable for a good night's sleep.the views are beautiful aswel, there is a lovely wild flower meadow to the front of the cabin and a meadow to the back which if you walk to the top you get some breathtaking views of dartmoor.we didn't want to leave and will be coming back in the near future.highly highly recommend a stay here.
