What our customers say about their holidays

I had a lovely stay, for a week.
The location was perfect: light free, and peaceful. The cottage was traditional stone, a lovely airy space with beams, warm and spacious with easy heating controls, and well stocked with kitchen implements, although some needed replacing. The fridge and freezer were not particularly clean, and the oven grill/tray was past use at all. The bath had previous occupants hair in it. The double bed really needs replacing: when I rolled over all the springs crunched together and you could feel you were in contact with the wooden base. Ditto the small 2 seater sofa, very uncomfortable, and the cushions were flat as pancakes. It would have been nice to have been given a couple of washing power capsules, as is standard if washing machine facilities are available. The laundry room was clean and accessible. Wifi was slow in the lounge but fine in the main bedroom. I had one small bath towel and one handtowel for a full weeks stay. I asked for a second small bath towel, so I could wash my hair when I had a shower, and the host refused to give me another towel! I've never experienced this, it seemed a bit mean. (As a comparison I've just stayed 3 nights in Bath and was offered 2 of each sized towel, a face cloth, and a shower mat every day.) If someone wants an extra towel, give it to them, this makes a difference. Being that the cottage is 4.5 miles from the nearest decent food shop (Aldi near Bodmin), it would have nice to have a decent welcome pack like a loaf of bread, block of butter, half a dozen eggs, and a pint of proper cows milk, (instead of the tiny UHT pots that were left), with 4 teabags and 4 coffee sachets. I would happily have paid an extra £10 to have this kind of if welcome pack, to save me having to go shopping again for basics after a long journey. Perhaps that's something you can consider? Overall a lovely place and if the bed and sofa were upgraded this would be a top notch little place.

Carrows Stables is a wonderful location because it lies very remote and we enjoyed seaviews as well as the fact that the South West Coast Path is only a 5 minutes walk away from the cottage.
With The Rectory Tearooms and the Bush Inn close by, very good food was always at hand. The kitchen was very well equipped. Paula, the owner of Carrows Stable, was very kind and always helpful (she also cut the plants so that we had a great view from the window in the living room). Her dog Seamus was absolutely adorable and a highlight of our stay. Nevertheless, I agree with Carolyn´s review (August 2023) concerning the condition of the cottage: it needs redecorating and the cleaning was not very well done (cobwebs, empty dogfood tin from a previous tenant in the dustbin ...). The second bedroom and bathroom in the first floor are very small. Although the cottage is supposed to host six guests, I think the eating table is too small for more than four people. The pictures of the art deco window are not really accurate, because the window sill is not wide enough to sit there comfortably. Since old houses often smell musty, it would have been nice if the house had been ventilated and heated before we arrived. We also missed hooks in the entry hall for our jackets - luckily it didn´t rain during our stay so we just put them over a chair. In terms of price, I would have expected

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at carrow stables.
If you love walking and want a complete get away from hustle and bussel this is the place for you but be aware you will need your car alot. We met the owner and the renowned seamus the dog on day 1, very friendly and helpful. The cottage has all you could want but is getting a bit tired around the edges I think some tlc required soon and maybe just a tad better cleaning as dusty round edges, however only minor issue. We walked along the cliffs on many paths my 2 sons did a few longer yomps where they walked back from other places we visited such as sandy Bay. We visited Port isaac, tintagell, Eden project, lanhydroc House and gardens, Padstow. The Bush inn a short stroll up the road does lovely food and very nice staff if you don't want to cook, nice local cider too. It would have been lovely if tree could be pruned so sunsets could be seen out to sea from big window in lounge. It now obscures most of view and sunsets are quite spectacular. Better sheets would also be good, again clean and OK but they are rough even my 15year old commented on them. Thankyou for a lovely holiday we have all returned home much more chilled than when we arrived.

Centrally located for touring all of Cornwallâs coasts .
. just a 5-10 minute slow drive to get to any ârealâ road. We also found Bodmin Parkway railway station (15-20 mins drive) convenient and cost effective, to visit Looe and St Ives. The emailed easy-to-follow route instructions from the owners were appreciated, as sat nav didnât recognise the final half mile of very narrow, bumpy farm track. Owners explained in the guidance book, about the wifi being slow, and why. We found this a real handicap, as it was actually very hit and miss on our iPhones and iPad. Perhaps some mention should be made by Sykes in their cottage features list? We almost didnât book, because the lounge photo shows a tiny tv (why do so many owners do this? .. a decent telly is only £200 .. we almost always ignore a property, if pic shows a ridiculously small telly). HOWEVER, telly had been swapped, and there was a nice 32â one provided. SYKES need to change the photo, to reassure potential clients, who may be put off. There are some nice walks, but always starting back down the farm track. Overall, we had an enjoyable week, but would not return, purely because of the WiFi deficiency.

We have just returned from a fantastic and memorable holiday at Carrows Stable.
What a fabulous place to stay. The location is definitely best described as rural. There is only the Old Rectory that the stables is attached to, a church, a farm and a very popular tea rooms within the immediate area. There is a local shop a few miles away and a pub about 5 minutes walk away. On the plus side, you are a few minutes walk away from the coastal foot path. Fantastic place for dogs! We loved the accommodation, found the facilities excellent and the property has great character. But, be aware. There is no phone signal at the house at all and WiFi is very limited in the property. All the better for it if you're looking for a beautiful, quiet and tranquil spot to stay. The location is just breath-taking. Watching the summer sunset from the enormous arched lounge window every evening and listening to the church bells on a Thursday night are memories I will hold dear for a very long time. If you are interested in the local history, there is tons to explore right on your doorstep. The property itself is very interesting and the church, right next door is fascinating. Well worth checking out.
