What our customers say about their holidays
Mr Westby - Verified booking
Hillside is a lovely property. The owners have seamlessly blended the old and new to create a spacious environment for 8-10 persons, ideal for family gatherings such as our own visit. It is where 'old country vicarage' meets 'designer kitchen'. The bathrooms are all modern, with the wet room very handy for surfers, walkers etc. The living and dining space is well appointed with a large dining table and chairs, with the living room space containing a mixture of sofas and easy chairs. Ours was a winter stay and therefore we did not take advantage of the outdoor spaces but there is adequate patio space for all of your guests with outdoor furniture and BBQ space. NB. as the name implies, the rear of the property is terraced as it is on the side of a hill. The pictures in the advert for this property are very accurate. I would make people aware of the following. Access to the main entrance to the property is via 10 steps, you would still need to climb five steps if you were to take the long route around to the back door. Therefore, this might not be suitable for persons with different abilities. However, if this is not too challenging, then the good news is that one of the double bedrooms is on the ground floor, as is the wet room shower complete with wash hand basin and WC. If visiting in Winter, then the dual air source heat pumps keep the property lovely and warm with a mixture of radiators and underfloor heating. Each room has its own temperature control. We didn't touch these as they we set just right. Plenty of cooking equipment and more than ample numbers of crockery, glasses and silverware, so some can be in the dishwasher and there is still plenty more to use. Not all visitors might be like us, country dwellers. The short walk to the village is along a narrow road, some of this has no street lighting. Would recommend you bring a good torch, spare batteries and also at least one person in your group to wear a Hi-Viz vest. It really does help drivers see you. Can thoroughly recommend the Manor Inn for pub classics and Sunday Carvery or just for drinks and the big football matches if that's your thing. For something a little bit special, try the New Coast Kitchen. Brunch in the mornings and fine dining in the evening. Superb. Hillside was everything we were looking for to accommodate grandparents, parents and teenagers.

2 Oceanpoint is a truly beautiful apartment in a stunning location. The views from the patio balcony are breathtaking. The apartment itself was spotlessly clean, well presented and tastefully decorated and furnished. There is also a secure car park so no need to worry about parking. You are well placed location wise to visit Croyde, Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Chambercombe Manor and many other places, that is, if you can tear yourself away from the fantastic Saunton Sands beach right in front of you. There is a private path from the back of the property down to Saunton beach but beware anyone who has a disability or trouble with walking as the walk up and down is very steep. There are also a fair few stairs to contend with to get to the apartment and I didn't notice a lift. The pint of milk, Devon fudge and shortbread biscuits left for us in the apartment were very much appreciated following our long journey. Overall we had a fantastic stay at 2 Oceanpoint and I would be hard pushed to find fault with this place - if you really pushed me, I would say that the shower head in the family bathroom didn't appear to be the right one for the shower as it would not sit in the holder making it difficult for my daughter to comfortably shower/wash her hair; and some cups and saucers in the kitchen cupboard would have been most welcome as not everyone likes to drink a big mug of tea. Other than that, I think everything else was excellent. I will definitely return to this apartment. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Some of the pots and glasses were dirty and had to be washed. There were big cobwebs on the walls in the main bedroom, in the wardrobe where we are expected to keep our clothes, and more thick ones in the en-suite, complete with a few spiders. In the kitchen we dropped something on the floor and it rolled under a small sideboard, when we pulled the sideboard out, it was THICK with dust and dirt with a black banana under there as well. The kitchen table was sticky and we washed and cleaned it several times. There are steps outside the porch leading to the front door, one of the paving stones was broken and loose and is a danger, it wobbles when you stand on it and we had to put it back in place several times. There is ivy growing through the walls into the porch. There is a honeysuckle plant outside the dining room window which is too high and spoils the view, it could do with a good trim. Also while we were there, the toilet flush broke in the bathroom on the top floor, we rang the housekeeper who said it had broken 2 weeks previously and had been repaired, she would call us back but never did. We managed with the toilet, it was just very slow to refill. We had the same property last year with the same issues, apart from the toilet and banana, gave it the benefit of the doubt but it was just the same. No work has been undertaken and it is in need of a thorough cleaning. Overall this is a lovely property in a really good location but it does need some TLC.

The house was lovely and the location fabulous. However we felt very overlooked by the main house - it really lacked privacy, both inside the house and in the garden. The garden furniture was fabulous but the garden really really needs an outside shower or at the very least, a garden tap so that you can wash off sandy feet and wetsuits. A real must for a beach rental. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds very comfy. Our en-suite shower was blocked and we informed the host - we explained it was not a problem and we would just use the other shower but we wanted to give them the heads up to get it sorted out before the next guests arrived. We were then very surprised and somewhat unhappy to find out that someone had gone into the house while we were out to fix it - without our permission. Not sure if this is permitted?? The kitchen was lovely and well equipped. The bathroom towels were small and cheap which was a bit annoying given the cost of the rental. It’s these little things that make a difference. We have been to Croyde many times before and absolutely love it there - we will be back, but not to this house.

Absolutely beautiful house in a really good location. The house and gardens are maintained well and the hot tub is hot! Also very clean. The house was very well equipped with everything you could need. Plenty of space for our party of 10 and very accessible as we had a mixture of ages and mobility needs, the downstairs bedrooms and shower room were perfect. Croyde is a beautiful village and only a short walk away with a pub 5mins walk and the beach 15-20 mins walk, the location is perfect, lovely, peaceful and very private. Would highly recommend this property.
