What our customers say about their holidays
Didier - Verified booking
I had a really pleasent and comfy stay in this suprisngly quiet house, so much so , that i would happily return.
Other feedback is as others have already stated: 1. I noticed in both Manor Cottage properties i've stayed in the interior is cleaner than the exterior. They don't seem to have an appropriate outside space maintenance routine & it shows. Not that the spaces aren't usable or appreciated, they are. But in general holiday lets do fall down on exteiror maintenance and here is the same. They need to keep pace with the seasons to stay on top. Tumbled roof moss, bird feathers, spider webs and weeding, greening stone work are classic signs. 2. The house is very old and full of character so a bit of wonky is not an issue. I did notice reported failed curtain rings and hard to flush toilets in reviews remain unaddressed which suggests feedback is not routinely acted upon as stated. Other issues: 1. Taking a dust pan and brush to a set of stairs revealled they obviously hadn't been properly cleaned for a while. We also found some long black hairs in our bathroom. While some / most of the property does appear super clean it's a shame to know corners might get cut. I was left wondering if detergents are used to clean bathrooms and what other bits might be neglected. It's a big property and i can imagine a daunting propsect to clean but hygiene risks only increase in such places. 2. This might be one for the local vicar rarher than an electrician but the first couple of nights were chilly and we could not get any radiator in any bedroom or the sitting room to activate following house instructions. Then all of a sudden one might suddenly heat up, but is was terribly random. None of it made any sense at all. Also the radiator in the tv snug made an alarming rattling noise after being on for several hours. When finally one evening the dish-washer came on without ever being used or even switiched on we decided the whole issue might have something to do with a resident ghost. The house electrics didn't seem dodgy and the heating was all about illogical water flow, but this house is in permanent shade so i'd want an assurance all is working if i were to stay during the winter.

A wonderful family three days was spent by us at Arlington Mill.
(There were ten of us). It is an amazing building and is just right for a large family group. There is so much space that everyone was satisfied with their own en suite accommodation. We ate in on two nights, preparing huge banquets in the massive and well-equipped kitchen (two freezers and two fridges!). The Catherine Wheel Inn is a stone's throw up the road and did us proud on one evening. This mill is an amazing place and there is so much to see in the village and surrounding area. It is a delightful part of the Cotswolds. Just one or two minor gripes. When using previous rented accommodation we have usually had a TV set in the bedrooms. Arlington Mill does not, though we were probably too tired to bother, anyway! The TV in the lounge appears only to receive programmes via Sky as Freeview failed to pick up any signal. The soundbar failed to switch on and is very precariously attached to the set. I am familiar with the model and it seemed to be inverted? We tried everything to get it into action, but it seemed dead. We brought DVD's with us for the grandchildren but were unable to use them as the player was not connected to the set and the leads appeared to be missing. The heating system is quite complex and not to be messed with! The timer appeared to be incorrectly set though we were frightened to fiddle with it and left it well alone! In leaving it as it was the heating seemed to come on very late in the evening and hardly at all in the morning when we were getting up. The master bedroom, however, was always warm. As a result, we had to purchase heaps of logs and used the very efficient log burner to heat the dinning and associated lounge area where we spent most of our time. These are only minor gripes about a holiday let which is second to none. It certainly has the 'wow factor' and is well worth the money. Congratulations to the owners who have done a great restoration job on what is a wonderful old building of some significance.

We stayed at Gardeners Cottage for 4 weeks during a house move to Alvescot.
The cottage is cosy, comfortable (especially the bed), quite well equipped with a large garden with wonderful views over the countryside. Good off street parking although it took us a while to understand you park adjacent to the house on the grass verges. The key safe was a bit of a challenge at first but ok to use after weâd mastered the code. If youâre bringing dogs, the garden is not contained so we used a roll of garden netting to keep ours from wondering off, or bothering the neighbours. The garden furniture is in need of a refresh, but ok to sit out on and enjoy the beautiful view. Youâll need accounts to all the streaming services on the TV as thereâs no access to Freeview or terrestrial channels via an aerial. We have streaming accounts so it was ok, just not possible to scroll through channels (a good excuse to forget the TV and go for walks with the dogs!). We changed the batteries in one of the TV remotes. A note to the management team - we had the plumber visit twice to take air out of the system which was caused a lot of disturbing noise in the early hours of the morning. They came promptly the next day and rectified the problem, but I think the system needs a good overhaul in general - ou canât shower upstairs if someone is issuing the shower downstairs for instance. Agree with other tenants that a microwave would have been convenient and the cutlery is a little tired The village is peaceful (a sleepy hollow) but itâs a drive to a shop and a decent walk to the Hare pub. Careful where you walk as one of the neighbours was upset that we hadnât followed a public pathway which wasnât marked to be fair. I think on balance it may be on the pricey side for what is offered and we noted that it wasnât booked at all in July & August which is a shame. It served us well for our move. Perhaps the pricing needs looking at?

We had to find a place to stay at the last minute.
We found Butler's Cottage on line and it seemed perfect. Unfortunately the website we were using reported an error and it would take up to 48 hours to get a response. I looked it up and found Butler's Cottage again at Sykes Holiday Cottages website. They actually have people answering the phone and they were very helpful through the booking process. It was arranged that we had the cottage for that night. The instructions given for accessing the cottage were easy to follow. The address on the High Street in Burford, Oxfordshire was central. Even though it is a busy thoroughfare with a heavy tourist influx during the day, once you opened the door and walked down the private Close to the cottage the noise of the High Street faded away to leave the sounds of birds in the Wisteria and quiet church bells on the hour. The kitchen appears to be a cooks kitchen! Everything you might want including a crepe pan! We had peach crepes for breakfast one day. There is even a dishwasher. There is a laundry room with everything necessary for a traveler. There is a staircase at either end of the cottage so my husband and I used the bedroom and bath on one side of the house while our daughter and baby used the bedroom and bath at the other side. One group did not disturb the other. There was a third bedroom in the middle we did not need. It was a wonderful respite and the people at Sykes Holiday Cottages were very helpful at all times. Burford is a wonderful village central to exploring the Cotswold.
