  We had booked a week, but left after 4 nights as we had 2 days when the Hot water wouldn’t work.

  Coming back wet and cold from a cycle ride to no hot water was the final straw. The property is owner-run so Sykes only take bookings and are not liable, the owner by his own admission said it ‘probably needs a service!’. He takes no responsibility for the shortcomings and refused to pay any compensation. The best he offered was “You can walk across in the rain to another outbuilding and shower there!” Definitely not what we paid for. The building is a ‘prefab’ , glass all along the front , no opening windows in the bedroom, lounge or kitchen. Bit of a goldfish bowl as walkers on the road can look in, stuffy at night as only option was to leave door completely open and then the local dog walks in. The outlying property ‘walks’ have a neglected air about them as well as being a Scrapyard of old vans and tractors, broken machinery and glass. The ‘tennis court ‘ needs a good clear up - extension leads to the ‘Box’ running across it. Also the trainline passes 100 yards away, not mentioned in the information. The outside ‘Bar’ is a derelict shed and the ‘Swimming lake’ is a pond! It has potential to be a lot better but needs more investment and maintenance to bring it up to standard.

  This is a comfortable, well furnished property, nicely situated for both walking into the village and local countryside walks, as well as visiting nearby places of interest.

  The owner is most helpful, prepared to respond to requests. There is a full size dishwasher, but to use this economically, there needs to be more crockery and cutlery. The current side plates are too small. We appreciated the washing machine, but the provided airer is too small - next door kindly loaned us theirs! There were hand towels for the shower rooms and toilet but we could have done with one for the kitchen as well as an extra tea cloth.There is an EV charger mentioned but it should be noted that this is just via an external 3 pin plug not a 7 kWh car charger. To the owner’s credit, when he realised we didn’t have the necessary lead to utilise this, he ordered one which we received the next day and overnight charging worked well. The rear outside area is nice to sit in but would benefit from some weeding. We have made the above points to hopefully help make what is a good property into a 5 star one. We had a very enjoyable week’s stay and would happily recommend the property.

  We stayed here for new year.

  The owner was helpful with recommendations for a local dog friendly pub as we arrived early and responses were quick. The cottage looks to have been updated recently with nice bathrooms and kitchen. The garden is secure for dogs and there were dog bowls for use. The weather was awful so we spent a lot of time at the property. It was warm and comfy. It is in a good location with parking and walkable to the lovely town. Suggestions for improvement would be more equipment in the kitchen and an additional comfy chair in the lounge. It seems other guests had issues with the open fire and we did find it a bit smoky so not sure of the reason for this ( we are used to open fires in our own homes). Outside the neighbours had an over flowing skip including dirty nappies and food waste discarded in the driveway which was a shame as we paid a premium at this peak time. I would stay here again and would love to see the area in better weather.

  This property is a 'Cotswold Gem'.

  Located in a quiet Village its ideal as a base for walking or visiting local beauty spots or indeed just to 'chill-out' away from it all. The property itself is tastefully decorated to keep in line with the historic nature of the building yet has all the modern facilities that you would need We were warmly welcome by the Owner who showed us around and provided recommendations where to eat and drink if required There is a Pub no more than 5 minutes away which looks out over the Village Green + Stream For the Walkers there are several Circular Routes starting from the Village of varying lengths and the Cottage itself is right on the Oxfordshire Way for those more adventurous Bourton-on -the Water, Broadway, Stow -on the Wold an several other Villages + places of interest are all within 30 minutes drive We certainly enjoyed our stay and certainly will make a future return visit to this property

  We had such a lovely stay in The Old Reading Room.

  Jules and Garth made us feel very welcome and Jules has a wealth of useful local knowledge. The cottage is gorgeous! It was clean, comfortable and quite spacious for a one bedroom property. We had everything we needed and Jules was always on hand if we didn’t, although our privacy was very much respected while were there. Not being able to park on site was not a problem at all as there was a very quiet side street just across the road with plenty of space to park. The village shop is a real gem. It serves lovely coffee and cakes and stocks many essential and non essential supplies. There are some beautiful local walks and the village pub serves great food. For us this was the perfect location from which to explore the north Cotswolds. We wouldn’t hesitate to book The Old Reading Room again.
