What our customers say about their holidays

This is our second time to this cottage and we love it.
If you are looking for a tranquil, peaceful week this is the place to go. The beds are SO comfortable and we just loved sitting outside. Again we were so lucky with the weather. Review: If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place to go. It has beautiful views and all you can hear are the sheep and cows. It is isolated (which we love) but it is a drive to get anywhere. However, my husband cycled lots (which is great if you like hills!). The woods and stream a short walk away are idyllic and our dog loved playing in the water there. The garden is not dog proof as my dog repeatedly got out but it was not an issue for us. He just crawled under the gate to get back each time. There are so many lovely pubs to visit. The beach is a good hour's drive away so although they are absolutely lovely you need to allow 1 -1.30 hours depending on traffic. We love Hedgelea as it's so peaceful and a place you can truly relax in. But if you are wanting quick access to amenities then it's not the place for you as there is no quick way out. I loved it.

We absolutely loved our stay.
The cottage is so much more spacious than expected, with everything a family and/or group of friends would need for a short or long break. Lovely addition of games and films for rainy days and we enjoyed reading the books available about the history of Appledore. No need to buy crabbing kits, as these were supplied (which the kids loved!). We had a small issue during our stay, but were able to contact and sort it with the property managers, who were extremely friendly and helpful. All the decor, beds, furnishings and linen were comfortable - if I had to be really picky, the sofas are a little out of place (but thatâs probably personal taste). Dog friendly too, with a very sweet addition of treats provided. Definitely recommend a stay if youâre planning a visit to the area. Public parking is available 5mins walk from property. Pubs, cafes, restaurants (recommend booking) fish & chips, and an amazing local shop/deli are all within walking distance.

A very wet October half term probably wasnât the best time to be at Hedgelea.
Four peopleâs wet weather gear quickly filled available coat hooks but the house was warm, well equipped, with comfy beds and great views. The owners provided a welcome cake and lots of ideas for things to do, and were super-quick to sort out a heating issue part way through our stay. Cleanliness was exemplary. The âbutâ comes from the very rural location and the openness of the property. I found access daunting - all routes are on very narrow, rutted, single track Devon lanes which made journeys in and out nerve wracking. I didnât find the garden was âenclosedâ enough for dogs. There is stock fencing on some boundaries and a fence/gate on one side of the house, but the bank to the main road is not secure and one side of the house is completely open. My dog was able to get into the neighbouring field (luckily empty of animals) on arrival day so we had to keep her on a lead for the rest of our stay; responsible but not relaxing.

Tidewood is a beautiful place to share with family and friends.
The wraparound floor to ceiling windows give amazing views across the countryside and to the sea beyond. We loved watching the sunsets from the deck. The beds are very comfortable and having 2 walk in showers was useful for those in our group with limited mobility, likewise having the living areas and bedrooms on one floor. It was lovely having a wood burning stove. We also enjoyed the garden and watching the birds and butterflies. The kitchen was very well stocked with ample pots and pans, large fridge, freezer and a great coffee machine. Although we didnât have one, it is very dog friendly with lots of walks on the doorstep. It was also easy to explore many of the local beaches and towns by car. We also enjoyed having a great pub with very good food within walking distance. Thank you to Elizabeth and Steve for all the hard work and thought they clearly put in to make Tidewood a wonderful home for a holiday.

Overall a lovely property in the middle of nowhere, which is perfect if you want to get away from everything but still has great wifi, which was an unexpected bonus.
Lovely walks from the doorstep, okish location for local amenities, with most places being at least 30mins away, which was expected. Garden is not very big, but there is a small enclosed area for dogs, but not much space if the kids want to play any games. I'd echo previous comments that the road leading to the property is very poor, you can access from the north or south, luckily for us our sat-nav took us in via the south because we arrived in darkness, had we used the north entrance, I think our car would have been wrecked. We tried the north route during the day and it was awful, massive potholes that you can't avoid, at one point the bottom of our car was scraping along the road, we were fortunate to avoid any major lasting damage, but we never used that route again.
