What our customers say about their holidays

We had a lovely break at Trerubbies and visited the cave the cottage is named after on Tregardock about 40 minutes walk away across fields, a raw to the elements tidal beach with steep steps down.
Trebarwith Strand is a 25 minute walk and the path is a little clogged up due to rain and the farmers using it as a cow path so take good walking boots. This is also a tidal beach suitable for dogs with the window for walking there around 4 or 5 hours at a changing time each day, keep an eye on incoming tides. The pub on the strand serves good food, above average prices but not ridiculous. The cafe is under new ownership and serves good coffee and cakes. We had several fine sunsets and were lucky with the weather for early May. The cottage/barn itself is tastefully furnished, a good conversion of maybe 12-15 years ago with fine views out of upper living floor windows, especially the front main room window. The garden above has excellent views across the fields below towards the sea. There are fields immediately around the cottage with a footpath. The access road is a country lane, it is slow and not for speeders and you cannot really hear the light passing traffic from the garden or house. We were there on the farm alone aside from the farmers ploughing (very late this year due to the heavy rains) and i would say this location suits those that like rural countryside and is not for those wanting easy access to shops and so on. You have to deal with cows on the walks and some farmers in Cornwall don't make access easy for hikers. The other barns were not let during our week and i am not sure how our stay would have been if they were all full in mid summer. The one negative, and these are small points but worthy of mention, there is a pile of builders stuff on the driveway under a blue tarp, it's an unsightly view from the raised porch table where we sat a lot. This area around the deck, table and the rail glass would benefit from TLC maintenance as would a few of the lose pavers around the garden. I would also have loved a recliner chair or two in the garden but i realise this is not a rental house proviso, it's just our car was overloaded and no room for easy recliners! Final point, with the dog kept upstairs which we agree with, it is almost impossible for us to manage their use of chairs. I would prefer to see washable rug covers on the large leather sofas just in case your dog jumps up. Benefits of Trerubbies, fine setting, a well considered barn conversion on a non-working farm, comfy beds, quiet, panoramic outlook, well located for walks to local tidal beaches, sea views. If the maintenance mentioned were carried out, we would have given 5 stars for our stay off season. --

On the day of check in I received a call about 2pm saying they were expecting a plumber to the property as there was a number if issues that needed to be dealt with.
I said we were 3 hours away so that would not be a problem. He said there was a problem with the radiator. The sink and the shower. When we arrived at the property there were 2 dirty bags of linen at the front door making it very difficult to drop off our luggage with it all in the way. On Thursday the housekeep called to ask if the linen was left and could she call to collect it.so this was in our way for whole time we were there. This really was not a good 1st impression. The radiator in the top floor bathroom was absolutely pouring with water when we went upstairs, we had to hand tighten it to stop the flow and leave a bowl under it for the rest of the week. The shower in the same bathroom switched off half way through and would not come back on again. The issues with the water in the top bathroom caused water to to come through the ceiling in the twin bedroom. The shower in in the middle front bedroom leaks from the corner. The radiator at the front door does not work and it is very cold in living room. And the sink in the kitchen sprays out causing you to get soaked every time you use it. I reported these problems and the fact plumber had not been to sykes in Saturday morning. Louis assured me he would get this sorted and someone would be out.. He rang me later that day to ask if anyone had been out which they hadn't. I then insultingly received a email on Wednesday asking me if my case had been sorted and to rate my experience. Noting had been done and the issues are still very much a problem. which is a shame because the property is lovely but it really does need these issues sorting before you start to charge 3 times as much in the summer months..I had read a few reviews previously stating some of the issues which means they have not been addressed which is not very good to say how much we spent to come for a weeks holiday. I await your reply

Great property + great location = great holiday.
The three adults plus two small dogs in our party all have a great time here. Seaview was spotlessly clean on our arrival and had some nice personalised touches that we appreciated. We found the kitchen/dining area a little "compact" but it wasn't a problem as we worked around this easily enough and anyway, it was more than compensated for by the large and comfortable lounge. The bedrooms were well furnished, comfortable and had a good storage space. Worth mentioning that the kitchen was particularly well equipped with all manner of pots, pans, casseroles, knives, dishes etc. There were even two different kinds of vegetable peeler! The nominated parking spaces were a bonus too. Located at the end of a private road, Seaview was quiet yet had amazing panoramic views of the sea that were captivating whether sunny or stormy. It's 50m above sea level so there's a bit of a climb back up from Coverack itself or the small (and almost private) Porthbeer Cove with its mixture rocky/sandy beach. Its only 700m (not the mile quoted in the Sykes listing) by footpath to the lovely Coverack harbour with the excellent (if somewhat pricey) Lifeboat chippie and Paris Hotel. Good coast path walks in both directions right from the door. We toured the area a bit. We enjoyed Loe Bar and Porthleven in rough weather â these can be accessed from car parks in the north of Loe Bar or the NT Penrose Estate. The Spingo beer at the Blue Anchor in Helston was as good as I remember it from 40 years ago and the walk around Lizard Point excellent and sparsely populated once you got 200m from the car parks! Note that Seaview's location is nowhere near that indicated on the Sykes mapping. Exceeded expectations.

We had a lovely stay at Marchbourne overall, sadly encountered some issues on our first night however after a couple of days Skyes got this sorted for us & remained in contact with progress reports the entire time.
The home is beautiful, & in an ideal location however the kitchen was poorly equipped, comparing it to other stays with Classic Cottages this was more like a 4* rather than 5. We struggled with the lack of kitchen appliances such as large enough pans & not enough utensils to serve food (7 of us stayed so large volumes of food to be cooked), & the crockery was very chipped, the cutlery we found was dirty & our bed linen was still wet when we arrived. There was still sand throughout the floors of the property & lots of marks on the walls of what could only be described as splatters of insects being killed, there are marks on a lot of the upholstery which we understand is bound to happen due to the volume of stays this beautiful property has. The owners were very reasonable & offered us a refund for the inconvenience which is greatly appreciated & despite some hiccups Skyes Cottages were fantastic, namely Cameron who went above & beyond out of his working hours to ensure that we were ok & issues were resolved as quick as possible. There was also no welcome book or information about how to work appliances, or information about what there is to do locally etc, this was requested from Skyes Cottages & although a very basic guide was sent the information appeared to be old & didnât include anything about the local area. I think if the cleanliness was to a much higher standard & things such as perhaps an information guide was shared it wouldâve been nicer.
