  I absolutely loved my week staying at Claerwen, it was so comfy and cosy.

  The view was amazing and it was so peaceful and quiet. The hut felt like it was completely in the middle of nowhere but within 30 mins you could be in Rhyader, Builth Wells or Llandrindod Wells. There is also a petrol station with a well stocked shop just 10 mins away. I visited Elan village as well as spending the day up at Claerwyn Reservoir both were great days out and again not far from to go. The bird live was wonderful, I saw woodpeckers, kites, buzzards, goldfinches and swifts from the hut and also saw a couple of redstarts when in the Elan valley. The hut is on a sheep farm so plenty of sheep to see as well as a couple of highland cows. The facilities were good and as you would expect from a small compact space, wifi was brilliant and the bed was really comfortable. For information the fridge is 40L in size, useful to know in advance if bring food with you. I did a click and collect at Tescos in Llandrindod Wells on my arrival journey. Finally I have to say a huge thank you to Alun, the point of contact for the owners. Despite being a very busy farmer he always replied to my questions, and was very approachable and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. As you may be able to tell, I would fully recommend Claerwyn (and Elan) to anyone wanting to get away from it all, in a cosy shepherds hut to enjoy the peace and quiet of the beautiful Welsh countryside.   We had a lovely week and the cottage was lovely.

  With young children I enjoyed the no clutter feel and fact everything was off the ground - easy to find lost toys. Despite having booked for 5, I was disappointed that only 4 sets of towels were left out - the hand towels were too small to use for the baby. However the real disappointment of the holiday was the kitchen. There were only 3 dinner plates, which for a booking of 4/ 5 was insufficient. The kitchen was home to 13 egg cups and 10 wine glasses, yet no corkscrew. The pans had seen better days and the oven trays felt/ were cheap ( I was disappointed there was nothing like a pyrex dish for a pasta bake, but appreciate this one may be down to personal cooking preference). The serving utensils were so cheap they almost folded in half holding a spoonful of veg. Additionally the knives were limited - only 2 small veg knives - nothing suitable for cutting bread. I don't think it would cost the earth to provide a bottle of washing up liquid either. ( As it happens we were in our camper van so had our own crockery we could use but most wouldn't). I would recommend but manage people's expectations.

  What a wonderful cottage!

  We chose Park House primarily for its location, it's perfectly placed for visiting various relatives who live in the area. We could not have done better. The house is quiet, spacious, extremely well furnished and equipped. It has a welcoming, cosy atmosphere. Comfortable beds, brilliant showers, good appliances, loads of table and kitchen ware. It's dog-friendly but also very human-friendly! The house is also engagingly quirky, you don't know what is behind a door until you open it. We only found the downstairs bathroom some time after arrival, when we explored what simply looked like the door to a store cupboard... There's parking space for a fleet of cars outside. Even in late autumn the garden was a real sun trap, ideal for sitting with the relatives for tea and bara brith. Adrian the owner was discreet but very helpful when we needed him - he changed the heating timer for us (the controls are not in the cottage). We have high expectations now for Sykes bookings, but this one definitely exceeded our hopes. We are planning to return next year.

  Dee, Bruce the dog and I absolutely loved our 3 night stay over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

  Milk and Welsh cakes on arrival were a very welcome addition. The hut was immaculate, well equipped and very cosy and the bed was incredibly comfortable. It has a completely enclosed garden, a previous review says it’s joint with the other hut but they must have since put a fence up between. This is very handy when you have a very friendly but overly inquisitive dog and meant we could relax knowing he wasn’t driving anyone bonkers. We loved sitting outside watching the sheep, cows and the Red Kites up ahead it was so beautiful and peaceful. We saw the farmer and family who came for a chat and they were so friendly. We enjoyed the drive from Elan Valley to Devils Bridge over the mountain pass (rated by the AA as one of the top 10 scenic drives in the world) did the devils bridge walk and then drove on to beautiful Borth beach. Another day we walked around the Elan Reservoirs and took in the impressive dams. We also spent an afternoon at the Red Kite centre which was amazing. We were very sad to leave and will most certainly visit again.

  We absolutely loved our stay at the Loft and would happily book again.

  The main room is really spacious, with everything that you need to be comfortable on holiday. The bedroom is very small but perfectly fine for 2 small children (or one older child or adult) and really cosy. Our boys are 5 and 2 - the younger one slept in a travel cot which just about fitted in the bedroom alongside the bed. Di, who runs the farm, was extremely welcoming and friendly. We all enjoyed "helping" to feed the animals (pigs, sheep, ponies, chickens, goats) many mornings and evenings. Remember to take wellies! Di has 5 lovely dogs. Our boys began the holiday quite wary of the dogs as some of them are very large and bark a fair amount! However, by the end of the holiday both boys really loved the dogs and had gained so much confidence around them. There are some great places to visit from the Loft, but you need to be prepared to drive for at least 30 minutes to most of them. Our favourite place was the Elan Valley, about a 45 minute drive away. Thank you Di for a wonderful, unique holiday!
