What our customers say about their holidays
Maureen - Verified booking
Firstly we loved Lyme Regis.
However finding the property and key safe situation was a different story. We were not told until we had paid the full price of the holiday about the keysafe situation. We have used Sykes Cottages before and after payment we have been given instructions and the owners number which gives us as seniors peace of mind incase of any problems or difficulties. Your previous properties have been perfect no problems at all and even a welcome pack to greet you not here sadly. The garden isnât inviting as it looks in the photographs. We were looking forward to using the deckchairs but they were in a poor state tucked up the side of the building. In fact all the garden furniture was in a poor state and it was a lot of money to us what we paid to be disappointed like this. Itâs supposed to have a washing machine but it hasnât that shouldnât be stated. Yes it states the steps to the bathroom are step but that is a bit of an understatement for health and safety reasons there should be a rail put there. The extraction fan was making terrible noises so we were nervous to use it so refrained and that wasnât ideal as there is no window in the said bathroom. We didnât stay the whole term of the holiday we had to return home the bed was so uncomfortable we were suffering with terrible backache. Luckily it was very warm so didnât require to use the duvet so layed that on the mattress to try and make it a bit more comfortable.

Property is wonderfully located for a stay in Lyme Regis / The Jurassic Coast.
We passed lots of lovely hours sitting at the breakfast bar/ window watching the ocean - beautiful! Clearly lots of thought and effort had gone into equipping The Lookout with amenities to ensure a successful holiday - the kitchen in particular had literally everything gadget / appliance you could ask for, and the TV set up was impressive! The welcome gift bag was a generous and thoughtful addition - thank you! In terms of feedback for improvements, the bed & mattress in the main bedroom (with ensuite) desperately needs replacing. I'm an average/athletic build chap (ie. Not overweight) but sleeping on the left side of the bed, I could literally feel the slats under my spine. The shower also needs a repair to allow it to be run colder - a hot shower isn't always welcomed after a long walk on a summer day! Finally, the listing should be more explicit re: the parking situation. Cobb Lane is a VERY steep hill about 1/4mile long, with the car park at the top, and the property at the bottom. You can only pay for 24hours at a time, so recommend using JustPark app to add more time each day rather than walking back and forth! (Also, £15 per day for parking soon mounts up. Maybe there's a deal to be struck with the owners of Undercliffe parking?)

We have stayed in dog friendly cottages in Lyme for the past 8 summers and were looking forward to staying in The Nest which we had passed many times and were keen to stay there.
We were so disappointed. The kitchen was nice and had good facilities. There was one two seater sofa in the living area so the floor was an option as there were more than two of us but it stank of dog wee. The bathroom had mould on the ceiling, the blind was broken and the amount of dust on the mirrors was extraordinary. There seemed to be a damp problem through most of the cottage. The snug was fine but the cleaners seemed to have left IKEA bags out. The two single beds were the most uncomfortable beds that we have ever encountered. They were dreadful, you could feel the metal springs sticking into you as you lay there. Not much sleep was had as they were so bad. The only storage cupboard was mostly taken up with spare bedding. The double bed was ok but underneath it was full of IKEA bags, not very pretty. The garden could be lovely, it had great views, but it was overgrown. The grass canât have been cut for a long time and there were piles of fresh dog

Lovely property, very cosy and homely.
Great location. Good sized kitchen. Really nice to get a welcome pack with some local produce to enjoy, thank you. Comfy beds & sofas. The travel cot smelt very damp and musty so we couldnât use it for our 5 month old. Main bedroom & cupboard smelt like it has a slight damp issue - no window in there. Some crumbs on floor & work surfaces when we arrived and we had to clean a lot of the kitchen cutlery/appliances before use, but all was fair as they canât check everything left from previous users. When we got there the tv remote said low battery and didnât last long so we went out and brought more batteries for it so we could use tv. Our one year old loved the long hallway running up and down and the building blocks to play with. Great to have two decent bathrooms and useful access for buggies with side entrance. We would recommend and enjoyed our stay. Thank you
