What our customers say about their holidays
Amanda - Verified booking
We have been very dissatisfied with our accommodation at clooneavin.
First impressions were that not all the photos were part of our accommodation. Dog friendly meant that all the upholstery smelt of damp dog and looked like it hadnât been laundered in a long time. All amenities was incorrect! We were shown to a pay meagre for electric and heating which took £1 coins. So we ended up spending a lot more just to keep warm. The wall in the master bedroom was wet!! The wooden kitchen utensils were covered in fury mould. And one of the toilets made such a pound noise when you flushed it sounded like the pipes were going to explode. In the details book we were shown to advised to hoover, clean with cleaner provided and strip all beds. Now Iâm a clean person everywhere was wiped down when we left. But this made us think! This place isnât getting a deep clean in between visits and this made us feel even more upset with our holiday. The kids were really disappointed too and this was our first holiday in 2 years . We were all so fed up and disappointed with the misleading details for this accommodation that we left 24 hours early and couldnât wait to get home. Needs a lot of maintenance very old and run down. Upholstery and beds need replacing. I really feel we should have our money refunded!!

Large period sash windows overlook the impressive view over town and sea to the Welsh coastline beyond.
You will need to feed the meter £6 a day to at least keep the chill off on 2/3 low/med setting, but will require significantly more if you want cosy or if very cold or for running hot water. We went green and switched the immersion heater off and used electric shower and boiled water for basins, so spent £34 not including the £5 already in the meter when we arrived. Probably would benefit with electric blankets as the nights can be challenging. Jim Jams and bed socks a must. In the spring or summer I imagine it would be an absolute delight to stay there with all of the sash windows open and the sound of the tumbling river from the gorge below filling the main room. The furnishings, fixtures and fittings are in keeping with the historical character of the building and the kitchen has all the basic items for self catering. it has a very quirky and eclectic shared entrance, a somewhat theatrical emporium overflowing with wonderful potted plants, prints and paintings, a piano, and carefully arranged cushions, antiques and collectibles; a creative reflection of Gill - its warm and ebullient owner who clearly loves the house where she lives and welcomes her guests.

Ferndale is a lovely property - short walk to beach and village centre - fantastic log fire (with a starter basket of logs which was much appreciated) and views from the lounge onto the distant beach. There is a lovely free standing bath plus 2 showers - masses of hot water and decent water pressure! The kitchen is well equipped with full sized fridge/freezer microwave and double oven cooker. There is a decent TVDVD player and Wii in lounge with additional TV/DVD player in the twin room. A washing machine is available in second bathroom. All in all a very well equipped totally dog friendly house which made our holiday very special. We were even greeted with a Christmas hamper and bottle of champagne which was very thoughtful and reflects the level of care and customer service!

Toaster was a bit tired as it didn't cook evenly and the oven, when used for 10 minutes, stank the rooms out as it needed a good clean. No Nespresso machine. We didn't feel the wood burner was safe to use as the door was extremely tight and appeared to be missing a door catch which was shown on the manufacturers website. The arm chairs were a little tired and uncomfortable. The 2nd floor bedroom handle was loose and came off easily but was fiddly to put back. This could have been dangerous in an emergency. The main bin outside the property was full on arrival, with no collection until after we departed. With work-around of these issues, we did have a pleasant stay. The property could be exceptional but lacks some TLC, and this lets it down.

Amazing location with fantastic views, right on the doorstep for all Lynmouth's activities. Liked the upside down layout to make the most of the views, especially from the top balcony. Great facilities with dish washer, washing machine etc. Ideal for families and pet friendly too. Just be aware of steep access to property for anyone with mobility issues and the carpark is near, but further down the road. Loved Lynmouth and Lynton, lots to do, great shops, pubs and eateries all on the doorstep, apart from groceries, which have to be purchased from Lynton or further afield. So just ensure you have the basics when you arrive as shop shuts at 7pm. Great transport links as bus park is across the road. Would recommend and hope to return.
