What our customers say about their holidays
Vicki - Verified booking
Alma House is really lovely, spacious and comfortable.
Reeth and the surrounding area is just beautiful. A few issues with the house that, for me, makes it a little below expectations of a holiday cottage charging over £1000 per week. 1. My first gripe is the check in time of 5pm. I realise all places are doing this at the moment and using covid and cleaning as an excuse, which is fine if you get there and the place is spotless when you do, sadly this wasn't the case. Yes we had comfortable beds with clean bedding and towels (although the towels are tiny) but dust and cobwebs needed seeing to and there are a number of clothes moths in one bedroom especially. I just think we paid for a day in the cottage which we couldn't use it for it to be clean and while it wasn't horrendous it certainly wasn't perfect, the kitchen cupboards are in need of a good clean especially. 3pm check in would be much nicer and if you are making people leave by 10am and asking them to do half of the cleaners job (stripping and bagging into separate bags all bedding, protectors, towels and kitchen towels) before they go then 3 pm should really be manageable. 2. The cooker! We got there at 5pm on arrival day and at 6pm turned the oven on to warm through a lasagne that had been made at home before our departure. This should have been edible by 7 we thought, but at 8 we were still waiting for it to warm through to the middle. Over the course of the week we tried all of the options on the cooker but none worked very well at all. 3. The Macerator drainage system upstairs is horrendous and super noisy. 4. We were asked to only use the washing machine on a 600 spin. This to me is not acceptable, apparently its something to do with the spin effecting the electrics of the flat below, I'm afraid my opinion on that is if its causing electrical issues the electrics need looking at and it's not the fault of the washing machine or people using it. It would be better to take the washing machine out rather than expecting holiday makers to wash on a spin where a tumble dryer can't be used leaving it taking ages to drip dry and ends up smelling worse than it did before it was washed. On the subject of the grumpy neighbour mentioned in other reviews, we had no issues whatsoever, he was polite and chatted each time we saw him. The parking on the green is just a short walk from the cottage, there is an honesty box for optional payments with a recommendation of £2 for a full day. I had no problem with paying this as it goes towards the upkeep of the beautiful village green. All in all it's a nice house in a lovely area, but I probably wouldn't rush to book it again. We had left our dogs at home, so the lack of outdoor space wasn't a problem for us, but I personally wouldn't recommend it for people taking dogs with them even though it is a dog friendly place.

Wonderful week with the added bonus of superb weather.
The property was well equipped and comfortable. These are only suggestions but the following may be worth considering: . A hand rail between the lounge/kitchen steps & the bedroom/landing steps. . The rope along the staircase looks nice but they would benefit from a more stable bannister. . The door between the lounge/kitchen needs rehinging otherwise the lovely flooring is going to get ruined. . The cupboard near the lounge window could be more useful if the shelves were removed ie storage for the vacuum cleaner. . No instructions for the rubbish or bins. Our dog is old, as are we, so all the steps outside & inside the property were hard going especially after a day's walking. This isn't a criticism but just be aware. However, we enjoyed our stay very much. The property has good facilities & is in a great location. You can park outside to unpack/pack the car and then park on the village green opposite. The welcome bottle of wine was a nice touch. Thank you.

Nicely decorated modern property, friendly village the people we met were all very nice.
Parking nearby was a bit of a nightmare, I expect it's not so bad out of the school holidays, but nice to be in the village centre. Not very clean especially the floors and spending first few hours of your holiday cleaning is not fun. Could not find any airer for washing, handle falling off back bedroom door constantly was in previous reviews so not sure why not fixed, and lights also not working in back bedroom- we managed with landing light. Need to leave some instructions for guests about where main bin is and which belongs to the property as it wasn't clear. Thick curtains rather than just blinds might help with the road noise. Nice walks nearby and cycle centre cafe was fab, but we were driving a long way to get to things to do with a younger child. I expect a good location if you just want to walk and cycle in the north Dales. Wouldn't stay again unfortunately due to location not being right for us and the cleanliness which is a deal breaker for us.

Had a fabulous week with friends in this comfortable and spacious old house.
The location is spot on. Didn't use the car all week as there are plenty of wonderful walks from the door, and Reeth village green, shops. pubs, cafes are just a few steps away. There's an honesty box for parking on village green, which was fine with us. Neighbour was friendly, cooker and everything else in cottage worked fine. Beds were comfy and linen was fresh and clean, as were the towels. We brought our own larger bath towels with us. The top floor toilet/plumbing system is a macerator which makes a rumbling noise when in use, but we didn't find that a problem. It was good to have two toilets in the house, and there are 3 wash hand basins which was handy. The facilities, especially bathrooms, are a little old fashioned in parts, but clean and adequate, and I would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to book it again. All in all a very relaxed and happy experience in this spacious old house.

A spacious and comfortable house close to all the village amenities.
The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay although the dishwasher needs a service as some of the crockery (cups in particular) needed a second hand wash. The beds are comfortable and had a nice choice of bed linen. Also, as mentioned by other guests, the bedrooms donât have wardrobes - just a chest of drawers in the main bedroom. Towels are provided however, if we stayed again we would definitely take our own; as the bath towels are too small and thin. As the house faces the main road it is quite noisy with constant traffic from early morning to well into the evening. In fact, we didnât realise just how much traffic passes through Reeth until we stayed here. Overall, the house is ideally placed to go exploring the Dales as there are plenty of gorgeous walks from the doorstep and lots of places to visit should you prefer to drive or use the Little White Bus.
