What our customers say about their holidays

We stayed at Gardeners Cottage for 4 weeks during a house move to Alvescot.
The cottage is cosy, comfortable (especially the bed), quite well equipped with a large garden with wonderful views over the countryside. Good off street parking although it took us a while to understand you park adjacent to the house on the grass verges. The key safe was a bit of a challenge at first but ok to use after weâd mastered the code. If youâre bringing dogs, the garden is not contained so we used a roll of garden netting to keep ours from wondering off, or bothering the neighbours. The garden furniture is in need of a refresh, but ok to sit out on and enjoy the beautiful view. Youâll need accounts to all the streaming services on the TV as thereâs no access to Freeview or terrestrial channels via an aerial. We have streaming accounts so it was ok, just not possible to scroll through channels (a good excuse to forget the TV and go for walks with the dogs!). We changed the batteries in one of the TV remotes. A note to the management team - we had the plumber visit twice to take air out of the system which was caused a lot of disturbing noise in the early hours of the morning. They came promptly the next day and rectified the problem, but I think the system needs a good overhaul in general - ou canât shower upstairs if someone is issuing the shower downstairs for instance. Agree with other tenants that a microwave would have been convenient and the cutlery is a little tired The village is peaceful (a sleepy hollow) but itâs a drive to a shop and a decent walk to the Hare pub. Careful where you walk as one of the neighbours was upset that we hadnât followed a public pathway which wasnât marked to be fair. I think on balance it may be on the pricey side for what is offered and we noted that it wasnât booked at all in July & August which is a shame. It served us well for our move. Perhaps the pricing needs looking at?

The parkdean resort was amazing.
The location, facilities and entertainment were great for a family holiday. We ate on site a couple of time and used the passes to access the pool and clubhouse I. The evening and both adults and children enjoyed it thoroughly. However, the caravan was not uo to the same standard as we expected from such a great site. The interior was dated, there were lots of unnecessary items in the caravan that couldn't be used such as lamps situated where there were no plug sockets. There was a lack of plug in general which meant that you couldn't watch TV at the same time as having a lamp on. The kitchen was very basic. The grill wouldn't stay on and to use it, you would have to keep the gas knob pressed in. There was only one shelf in the oven, which meant that cooking for 5 people was tricky. From staying in other caravans there seemed a lack of storage space in bedrooms. We also couldn't seem to find any instructions on how the heating worked. When we arrived the shower was on and the bathroom floor was flooded, I believe there had been a problem with the water on site before we arrived so assumed that when the cleaners were in they forgot to turn off the shower. The light switch in the bathroom was also too short. This meant that 2 of the 3 children couldn't use the bathroom at night as they couldn't reach the pull cord. It was also very hard to shut the double bedroom door, which meant waking the children up eheb the adults went to bed. I think it would also be worth mentioning that, as you are surrounded by established trees that it is quite a common noise to hear acorns falling onto the roof. This wasn't a problem but 2 of the children were a bit scared of the noise on the first night.

The caravan is great in terms of facilities and little extras (including a lovely sign, bottle of bubbly, chocolate, flowers and crackers when we arrived).
The bedrooms and bathrooms are good and the main area a good size with lots to do (board games, table tennis, big internet TV etc.). Anything we needed we could find. The main downside is that it could be cleaner. The caravan is quite modern but is let down by things like hair in the bath, mirrors splattered and the floor needing a good hoover. There is a hoover there but it doesn't work very well. This is the main reason I wouldn't totally recommend others to stay there. There are also some DIY fixings which are a bit wobbly (e.g. we had to take one bedroom TV off the wall and rest on a firm surface instead). The other issue was that some of the key facilities we were excited about weren't available. The clubhouse and pool were closed for refurbishment which we weren't informed about. The host was very apologetic about this and gave us some cash as a refund. But this meant entertaining 4 teens without this variety that we'd expected. And I'd asked for the pool table to be set up in the main living area which it wasn't. One of the teens and I put this together which took about 2 hours (gave us something to do). We could then convert it into a full size table tennis table after 2 days. The hosts were friendly and accommodating (they live next door). So in terms of practicalities, facilities and comfort I'd say this is a great place to stay and base yourself. Once the main park facilities are open this would be even better of course. Just a bit more time on the cleaning so it didn't feel ever so slightly grimy would make this a really excellent place to stay.

Alarm bells should have been ringing due to the lack of reviews about this property.
It just wasn't very clean. The lamp shades were dusty. There were food stains on the crockery. There was a privacy issue as we could look directly into the upstairs windows of the houses opposite and they into ours. Downstairs, passers-by could look in as they walked along the pavement, hence the profusion of net curtains, which made the property decidedly claustrophobic. The ceilings are so high that all cosiness was lost upstairs. The colour scheme of blues and wood grain makes the house seem cold. From the kitchen area you have to cross the entrance hall to reach the dining room, which was a rather narrow, dark room. The games hamper was a bit of a mess with pieces of games spilling out of the boxes. It needed a good sort out. The pub nearby was noisy and we heard late night drunken swearing and arguments. I knew when booking that the property had no outside space, but the close proximity to the neighbours windows and their outside space was uncomfortable; the house was an island. Every morning we didn't enjoy the revving of the neighbour's motorbike. We could never park in the street near the property. We had to park in a public car park in the next street. The owner did give us a free pass for this but nevertheless it was an inconvenient walk. The area of Sandown was really run down. The abandoned and derelict hotels on the nearby seafront were so depressing and the pier was horrible. I have to say it was the worst town and cottage I've ever stayed at. It just doesn't work as a holiday cottage, in my opinion.
