  Fantastic views, amazing building to spend our 30th wedding anniversary which made it a special place for our stay. Our rating of 4 star was based on the towls had some dubious stains on them and we had to put them through the washing machine twice, which for the amount we paid to stay, we were suprised they were in that condition. The other reason was the onsite caretaker who within 5 minutes of us arriving was moaning we hadn't bolted the entrance gate in exactly the way he liked it. We had shut the gate but left one of the floor spikes in the up position as we arrived at 10 minutes past 4 and assumed other guests would be soon arriving and as the gate was wet it would save their clothing getting wet when leaning over. But we still had a nice time and it was special for us.

  We arrived in the middle of Storm Dennis. The cottage was warm, well laid out and very comfortable. The welcome hamper provided was superb. We arrived too late to shop on a Sunday evening, the hamper provided all we needed until we shopped on Monday. It was without doubt one of the most comfortable holiday cottages I have stayed in. Everything was provided, beds made and towels laid out. The sea views from the bedrooms, lounge and dining room were excellent. The fog horn sounded through out the night on a couple of occasions but we did not find the tone irritating and soon forgot it was there (without earplugs). I would highly recommend this cottage and look forward to our next stay.

  The house was perfect for our 3 generations holiday, downstairs accommodation with ensuite and another family bathroom suited my dad and plenty of rooms with ensuites upstairs for the rest of us. The house was perfect for Christmas lunch with the open plan kitchen diner and snug area. Fully equipped with everything you can need including plenty of crockery and glassware. Thoughtful touches with the lovely welcome parcel and plenty of added extras we'd often have to bring with us. Lovely views of the sea, so close to walk the beach everyday and the Woolacombe Bay Hotel provided a lovely lunch/dinner venue. Beautiful setting and lovely accommodation, thank you!

  Longships was warm, very comfortable and in a fantastic setting. We were lucky with the weather, which meant the foghorn hardly sounded. Had the weather been bad, we understand the foghorn would have sounded constantly, which would have ruined the holiday as the cottage practically shook on the odd occasion that it went off. I think Rural Retreats should be more transparent about this and about the lack of reception and internet, which we only discovered in the small print and after we had booked the holiday (and paid in full). Yes, it was good to get away from devices but we didn't feel as though we'd been given a choice about this.

  Overall, the accommodation was what we hoed for i.e. clean, a pleasant place to come back to in the evening and very warm which was welcome in the cold weather. However, the kitchen was poorly equipped for cooking - two not very large saucepans and only one lid is inadequate even for two people. As new customers we noted how much emphasis Rural Retreats put on the provision of a hamper so we were really shocked to see that the eggs provided were from caged hens. Animal welfare organisations such as the RSPCA are campaigning against such practices. The lack of any facility for recycling waste is also surely unjustifiable these days.
