What our customers say about their holidays
June - Verified booking
Enjoyed a couple of days with family at Holly Cottage.
We were so delighted at how immaculate the property was (always important) The linen was excellent quality, the towels white fluffy and fresh. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need from utensils to lovely glasses and plates. A welcome tray was super kind and included high quality biscuits, Elizabeth shaw mint chocolates, crisps and drinks in the fridge. Itâs gestures like this that make a difference:) The log fire made it the lounge cosy and the heat was welcomed. There were tons of logs albeit we needed no more than provided in the fire basket. The village shop is excellent and if you do forget anything they had a great variety of fresh produce and non perishables. If we had more time we would have explored more but as a meeting place it was ideal. Some points to note. Parking at the front is very small and only fits one small car. My estate car would have crossed over the pavement. There was no oven glove (not something I thought of taking) but very much needed. The showers are electric and not very powerful. We went on a very cold winter weekend but it was cold in the house, especially in the kitchen where it is extended and the bathrooms. This is probably because it is a very old property as the heating was on. I guess itâs only to be expected but worth noting if you feel the cold. There are blankets in each room. The bedrooms are all beautiful, well equipped, wardrobes, mirrors, tvs. Each room even had its own hairdryer. However as the top bedroom is more mezzanine it does not have a door and therefore no privacy. The single smaller bedroom does have a tiny step down into it and would benefit from a reminder sign on the door, two of us completely missed it and tripped down. Stupid I know but when you are not used to a step you naturally walk forward. Holly Cottage is a very well presented home with quality furnishings. Itâs super clean and very welcoming. It has peaceful views situated in a quiet village. Itâs got a happy feel and we would happily visit again when the sun is shining:). Thankyou!

When we arrived at the property there was a note to say that the gardener visited once a fortnight.
The garden however was overgrown and the lawn had not been cut for months. There were nettles and brambles growing into the garden which made it unusable. The access to the side patio which we used a couple of times for bbq was difficult due to the overgrown nature of the bushes. To add to this the side patio door was very difficult to close and needed quite a bit of force to do so. That being the case we didnât want to use the side door. When we arrived the general waste bin outside was over flowing and had not been emptied for some time and was also smelling. We tried to compact it down as much as possible to put our in it. However on our day of departure the bin was covered in maggots which we reported by leaving a note in the property. Overall we felt that the cleanliness of the property was below standard. For example, all the windows were dirty and had hand prints on them. When you moved the stools at the breakfast bar there was a dirt ring on the floor. The hoover did not work very well when we used it and even had to empty the hoover to try and improve it. Others things to consider for the future that would make peoples stay more enjoyable and to improve the facilities would be: Providing a washing line or a âworkingâ airier (the one at holly cottage was broken) if a washing machine is advertised Providing enough bin bags to last the stay - We had to buy our own We also had to buy additional cleaning products, but feel that these should have been provided. The other item I would like to raise is the oil tank did smell a lot and you needed to pass this to access the property.

This is a lovely house; clean, comfortable and extremely well stocked with all you need.
The kitchen has everything you need to prepare and cook meals with a wide range of pans, dishes & baking trays. Beautiful garden with plenty of seating & a very comfortable lounge to relax in. The owner was very friendly and helpful with advice on places to visit locally. The house is in a lovely location with easy access to Stratford-Upon-Avon and some lovely walking across footpaths directly from the grounds. You just need to be a little bit careful when getting out of the drive way as the traffic is quite fast moving; this did also mean there was traffic noise when sitting in the garden. The only downside for us is that one of the bedrooms has to be used as a walk though for access to the other bedrooms so the house is really only suitable for 8 (or maybe 9). We had 5 adult couples staying for one night so the downstairs bedroom had to be used for access to the ground floor. It was fine for the other nights when there were only 8 of us as we could use the room upstairs for access. If the single room is just needed as a single bed, maybe for a child, this can used for access. In this case the downstairs bedroom can be used almost as an on-suite room with the shower-room right next door. I don't think we completely understood the house layout from the description; although reading it again now we've stayed in the house the information is there, just perhaps not as clear as it could be.

Highcroft house is beautiful.
The kitchen was always lovely and warm with the Aga and plenty of cooking pans and dishes, cutlery and crockery. Lots of interesting features all around the house. The garden was so lovely and we would definitely book this house again, despite the one drawback. Although I have marked "Met Expectations" it exceeded expectations if it wasn't for the toilet facilities. We were 3 retired couples who wanted a house where every couple had their own bathroom. We had this, but their is no downstairs loo unless you walk through somebody's bedroom, which meant you had to go upstairs to your own bathroom to use a loo. When playing games in the evening it was a bit of a pain, especially as there is enough space downstairs, under the stairs to put in a loo and sink. If we were not in our seventies it would not have caused a problem. We played boule in the garden and had some good weather to enjoy sitting out in the garden. HighCroft is situated in an ideal location where Stratford upon Avon is only 2 miles away and also visited Morton in Marsh, Bourton on the Water, such wonderful places to visit for shopping and eating out. Thoroughly enjoyed our short time at HighCroft and it all ended too quickly. Would still rate this house 9 out of 10 and I am sure there are families who don't mind sharing facilities which would make this house an ideal 10 out 10 plus choice.

Overall we had a good stay at this property and would recommend it, particularly for families.
It is an attractive house and is well maintained with nice furnishings and equipment. As others have mentioned in their reviews, the layout is unusual due to it being two former cottages converted into one house. If youâre staying here with family members this wouldnât be a problem, but we were staying with friends and people we didnât know that well, so it was slightly awkward when having to walk through other peopleâs bedrooms to get to the bathrooms or the staircase. It would be helpful to have a floor plan of the property on the website to help with planning where our guests were going to sleep. The kitchen is the heart of the home and well equipped for self catering, and it leads into the large garden where there is an outside table and chairs. The back garden is perfect for children and dogs because it is safe and enclosed. This is also a good house for older children and teenagers as there is a tennis court in the front garden. The one drawback is that the house and garden are very close to a busy A road. The noise from the traffic does disturb you during the day and at night and is something youâre aware of all the time. Otherwise the house is in a good location, only five minutes drive from Stratford upon Avon with supermarkets, shops and restaurants.
