What our customers say about their holidays
Donna - Verified booking
The cottage is perfectly situated in the centre of Watchet, 60 seconds walk from the Co-op which is open til 10.
Watchet is an absolutely lovely little place where you can easily spend time just pottering about, in and out of the shops, pubs and cafes, on the beaches, people watching, having a drink or an ice-cream etc. There is plenty to see and do around the surrounding areas too and if you have a car then a drive to the Quantocks, and Blue Anchor are a must. Dunster is also a lovely village to visit. I communicated with John about the cottage and he was prompt and friendly in his replies. The cottage itself is lovely inside. Quite modern, and with traditional doors that really give it a quirky style. On arrival I found a bottle of wine had been left for me, and also tea, coffee and sachets of milk, which was a nice touch. The place is small and I was fine, as I was travelling solo but the listing says it sleeps 4 which I would think would be difficult. The small bedroom is very small. The sofa is a corner sofa with 5 âseatsâ but you would struggle to get 4 adults on it without everyoneâs knees touching. I thought it was perfect for 1, or a couple, and the second room would be fine for a small child, definitely not another couple. I found it strange that there were no cooking basics - eg oil, but there was, at least, salt and pepper. I was disappointed in the cleanliness. On first arrival I was desperate for the bathroom and went into the downstairs loo. There was a brown mark on the seat which I assumed was discolouration but I was able to remove it with toilet paper, so it was clearly something else. I cannot believe a cleaner could kiss something so obvious. It definitely put me off immediately. I also found plates that were not properly clean and the hob wasnât clean either. The slats in the blinds of the bedroom window were dusty. The owners really need to have a word with the cleaning company. The outside area was frequently shaded which was a blessing in the heatwave and I enjoyed being out there early mornings and evenings. Unfortunately it looked a bit shabby - with weeds growing, plants in pots dead or dying, a dirty table and a mop and bucket out there for some reason! 10 minutes of attention would fix the backyard and it is a shame it hasnât been done as it lets the property down.

A delightful little place near the heart of Watchet, a beautiful little harbour town.
Parking on the public car park was not a problem even on busy days there was a space . Even though it backs onto the car park it wasnât noisy or busy . Shops and restaurants and the harbour all within short walking distance. Local residents were very friendly and helpful and there was a lovely sense of community. Cottage inside was very clean and tidy , adequate kitchen essentials for cooking , also a washing machine and fridge freezer. Bed linen and towels were bright , fresh clean and spotless . The only thing I would say wasnât so great was the maintenance of the outside of the property to the front and rear , the front door looked very tired and weary as did the patio furniture and rear court yard where it needed weeding and a lick of paint and general maintenance on the patio doors . The lining of the patio curtains was ripped in several places and the sofa looked a bit tired in places , general wear and tear. I have only marked it lower for maintenance as the facilities were great . Non of these things spoiled my stay or made me uncomfortable I would like the owners to be aware as it really is a great little place and a wonderful place to explore Watchet and the surrounding areas, these things would only improve and enhance its overall appeal. Also the little guide book could potentially include a lot more information about places to visit and events at the local harbour. Whilst I was there there was a lovely little market by the harbour and events at the Quay that I found by chance. Dunster Beach is beautiful and great for walking dogs only a short drive away , the Memorial Park a short walk from the cottage with a nice space to walk dogs . Also thereâs a lovely walk along the old steam route at Dunster beach which is flat and paved with beautiful views of the sea and the fields and castle . Watchet is a lovely little gem with all needed for a lovely stay and there are plenty of things to do and explore.

This house is basic, grubby and overpriced.
There is a water stain on the ceiling with paper hanging down, black mould round some of the door and window frames, kitchen chair seats are dirty, mugs are tea stained, cushion covers are soiled and marked, the pillows on the beds are stained brown and need throwing away, the duvet is stained with blood, the bin area has tea drips on the cupboard and bin, the walls are marked, the carpets are dirty and the heated towel rail hasnât seen a cloth for a long time. A used plaster needs removing from the bedroom radiator. Even the information file had grubby finger marks on it! We couldnât clean anything even if we wanted to as no materials were provided - at least a bottle of loo cleaner is surely a basic requirement! There are no shelves in the bathroom for toothbrushes, shaving gear etc and there isnât an airer or line (retractable for the courtyard £5 from Wilko, Dunelm etc). Towels got wet, we got wet in the rain, nowhere to hang anything. Owing to the small courtyard with its very high walls little daylight came into the lounge area so we had the lights on most of the time. A couple of lamps would have helped and given the place a bit of atmosphere, and a rug in front of the sofas would also have made it a little more âcosyâ. Oh, and ten minutes spent weeding the small courtyard would have made it a slightly more inviting. Some of these things could have been reported in the visitors book, but there wasnât one eg both toilet seats are wobbly and need tightening up. Iâm afraid we shall not be returning.

The first thing to say is that prospective holidaymakers shouldn't be put off by the negative reviews from 2018.
The owners have clearly listened to criticism and acted accordingly. We arrived to find the cottage clean, fresh and bright. Everything worked properly, the welcome pack was indeed welcome, and the level of equipment was fine. In fact, it's rather better than the description and photos suggest, as the old larder fridge has been replaced by a much-needed washing machine (although we couldn't find a drying rack) and a full-size fridge-freezer added. There a nice little private outside space that catches the sun in the afternoon. We enjoyed fossil-hunting in nearby Helwell Bay and a steam train trip to Minehead, with its sandy beach. Samuel Taylor Coleridge's cottage is a short car ride to the east and the splendours of Dunster Castle are nearby to the west. The caravan park at Blue Anchor has a nice indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room that's very reasonably priced and available to non-residents at off-peak times. As for the town itself, the shops are handy (the Co-op is two minutes away) and enough for everyday needs (there are out-of-town supermarkets at Minehead). I can recommend Sam's Deli where I bought one of the best scotch eggs I've ever tasted. The museums are small and welcoming and the Esplanade (lots of benches and shelters) gives a great view of the harbour.

First impressions OK.
After 7hour journey put kettle on which was very greasy on outside, put lights on and one light in kitchen and one in lounge area did not work.! walking up stairs noticed above skirting board needed painting . Second bedroom had no bedside table and light on windowsill did not work and needed a new shade as it had pieces missing. The wardrobe was canvas and had various bedding piled on top.We phoned owner next morning and he sent Louise round with new lightbulbs..We pointed out that on the patio doors there was a large area of dried on bird poo,she said she did not clean outside windows, so I got washing up liquid and cleaned it off while she was there. The outside table and chairs had so much rust on the seats that we had to use cushions from settee to sit on them .The potted plants were half dead the wall had green algea on it on the patio needed a sweep.TO SAY THE LEAST IT WAS THE WORST PROPERTY WE HAVE STAYED IN AND WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED The good points were beds comfortable and clean both downstairs toilet and bathroom also clean and unlimited hot water.. 1 have taken photos of the rusty chairs and bird dirt on windows etc,if needed. Dot and Len Hopkins and Eve Burgess.
