What our customers say about their holidays
Tracy - Verified booking
When we turned up at the property and walked in, we were initially impressed.
However the next morning after sleeping in the twin bedroom with the door closed ( on arrival this was open) there was an overwhelming smell of oil. When we opened the small door where a clothes rail is, we found the cause as the oil heating system is located here. We ended up putting towels at the bottom of this door to try and stop the smell. We had to keep the door open all the time even at night when we slept! This was not ideal as we had gone there with our friends. We then went to cook breakfast and the 2 frying pans were dirty and so was the cooker hob (I took photos of both) so had to clean these before we could do breakfast. The outdoor space while perfect for dogs as very secure the grass needed cutting! The owners grass area was in great condition. The outdoor furniture had seen better days and lookâs like it has been left out all winter as was rusty and dirty with green mould and bird poo all over them and the table has a broken leg part that holds the glass top on. So we ended up washing these as best we could to be able to sit out. Luckily we took our own little barbecueâs as wouldnât have used the brick built one there. Also while the wine and chocolates was a very nice touch and appreciated. We would have preferred for the host to have popped over to see if everything was ok. So I canât comment on whether they were nice or not as we NEVER saw anyone our entire stay. We will not be returning because of these issues! Which is a real shame.

We enjoyed our stay at Commonwood Cottage so much - the cottage is faultless.
The layout is really well thought-out, the open-plan of the kitchen and living room means you can stay engaged with your family/friends even if you're the one cooking, the two bedrooms are beautifully done. I don't think I've ever slept so well in a single bed, it was so comfy! The kitchen was so well equipped, we didn't want for a thing, it seems the host has thought of absolutely everything. There were even hot water bottles on each bed, which is just a lovely touch that I've never seen before. And we did spot a fan for those hot summer days too! The double bedroom has a smart TV for those who are into watching movies in bed. The living room TV isn't smart but has plenty of channels and a basket of DVDs (which we made use of!), and it's very easy to plug in a Firestick if you want to access apps on the living room TV. Loved having the enclosed grounds for the dog to enjoy as well - the fences have been chicken-wired so even our small dog wasn't at risk of slipping out. Grounds are shared with the owners home so I'm sure they would have been on-hand if we had needed them, but as it was we were left entirely to our own devices and didn't feel overlooked at all. Overall, a lovely and private stay in a beautiful cottage with everything we could want for. Thank you!

An absolutely beautiful stay!
The cottage is a home from home, incredibly well looked after and we'll thought out. It has everything you could possibly need and as gorgeous as it looks in the pictures, they do not do it justice! We were really lucky with the weather and managed to BBQ everyday, finding great produce at a couple of fairly local farm shops. Our dogs loved the garden and it was lovely to be able to relax knowing they were safe and the garden was secure. We didn't try walking them straight from the cottage but there were some really nice walks within about 10 miles drive. We tried Alyn waters, Moss Valley and Errdig. Errdig was by far the favourite! The other 2 were small and didn't take much time to walk around, having to force ourselves to get any sort of distance from them. Our dogs, all a little older (German shepherd 11, westie 10 and husky 9) still require a good walk and we struggled to get 3 miles of the the Alyn waters and Moss Valley. Errdig was great, loads of woodland, a river and bug open spaces. We loved it so much that we tried to extend our stay whilst we were there but unfortunately and understandable it was booked up! Looking forward to returning! All we can really day is thankyou, it was lovely.

Beautiful place with gorgeous furniture.
Easy to find. The ad says â businesses on siteâ - i did not expect to be separated from them by standard internal doors- the downstairs one has a window and i could see people standing there chatting- the dog went mad. I could hear every word they were saying, as well as upstairs. So we also felt we had to speak quietly so as not to disturb them. 8 am noise from them did not allow for a quiet lay in. âOffices in the building in the adjoining roomsâ would be more accurate. Main back door key very difficult to use especially locking from the outside. Both bathrooms downstairs is a bit of a mission re mobility issues. I didnât see this very important fact in the ad either. I thought, from the photos that the large grass area was part of the rented property - i chose this property with this in mind for the dog, so was disappointed with the small fake grass area. Ad says âgarden with lawnâ not small area with fake grass. I would not have booked if i had known this.

A nicely decorated modern holiday rental, it has a large garden ideal for dogs and a well-equipped kitchen.
After reading the review in May about several problems especially with the oil boiler in the twin bedroom I contacted Sykes as no information was provided to say these issues had been addressed by the Owners. Sykes confirm they contacted the Owners with our concerns. Other reviews encouraged us not to cancel the booking. On entering Commonwood Cottage the smell from the oil boiler was overwhelming. It was a very hot day so we opened windows and doors. During the night my Husband who is asthmatic developed a cough. The smell was lesser in the main bedroom and hall but still present. We tried unsuccessfully to sleep in the living room as we didnât want this to affect his health further. After contacting the Owner the following morning we decided to vacate the property. An offer to come over was provided but we no longer wanted to be in this environment or have an anticipated serious disruption to our holiday.
