What our customers say about their holidays

We stayed at Gardeners Cottage for 4 weeks during a house move to Alvescot.
The cottage is cosy, comfortable (especially the bed), quite well equipped with a large garden with wonderful views over the countryside. Good off street parking although it took us a while to understand you park adjacent to the house on the grass verges. The key safe was a bit of a challenge at first but ok to use after weâd mastered the code. If youâre bringing dogs, the garden is not contained so we used a roll of garden netting to keep ours from wondering off, or bothering the neighbours. The garden furniture is in need of a refresh, but ok to sit out on and enjoy the beautiful view. Youâll need accounts to all the streaming services on the TV as thereâs no access to Freeview or terrestrial channels via an aerial. We have streaming accounts so it was ok, just not possible to scroll through channels (a good excuse to forget the TV and go for walks with the dogs!). We changed the batteries in one of the TV remotes. A note to the management team - we had the plumber visit twice to take air out of the system which was caused a lot of disturbing noise in the early hours of the morning. They came promptly the next day and rectified the problem, but I think the system needs a good overhaul in general - ou canât shower upstairs if someone is issuing the shower downstairs for instance. Agree with other tenants that a microwave would have been convenient and the cutlery is a little tired The village is peaceful (a sleepy hollow) but itâs a drive to a shop and a decent walk to the Hare pub. Careful where you walk as one of the neighbours was upset that we hadnât followed a public pathway which wasnât marked to be fair. I think on balance it may be on the pricey side for what is offered and we noted that it wasnât booked at all in July & August which is a shame. It served us well for our move. Perhaps the pricing needs looking at?

We absolutely loved our stay at Lynton Cottage.
However, we were disappointed by a number of things. There was no hot water in the master bathroom and although the owner told us how to rectify the issue, there was no running water in the master bathroom in order to fix it. This meant we were unable to use the master bathroom at all during our stay and there was no hot water to the bath to bathe two young children who do not like showers. This appeared to be an ongoing issue which the owner needs to rectify. The wifi did not work during our stay either despite trying to reset it and turn it off a number of times. The owner expected me to reach out to the wifi provider to rectify the issue which I didnât think was very fair. I had no mobile internet at the property to do this anyway. This made it hard for us to entertain the two young children at times. Another issue was that the BBQ was left dirty by previous guests so we did not use it. I also picked out dirty cups and dishes when I went to use them which I feel should be checked before every guest stay. Nevertheless, the property was absolutely beautiful in itself, especially the courtyard, which did make up for some of these issues. It is set in the most idyllic village which was perfect for country walks and we were able to enjoy the pub just a few steps away from the house. The house was perfect for our family stay and made our Mumâs 60th very special. I am sure myself and my family would stay at the cottage again so long as these issues are rectified!

Overall, our stay at the house was enjoyable, with a few minor inconveniences.
The location was excellent, just minutes away from Sainsbury's supermarket and restaurants, making it convenient for our daily needs. The well-stocked kitchen was a highlight, and the thoughtful welcome gift of biscuits and milk added a nice touch to our arrival. However, there were some issues that detracted from our experience. Firstly, the incorrect Wifi network name in the manual caused initial confusion. Additionally, parking instructions need improvement. Although there are only four parking spaces opposite the house, we found that the free car park nearby only allowed parking for 12 hours per day, which was inconvenient for overnight parking. Fortunately, we discovered that Dunstan Avenue allowed unrestricted parking, and we utilized the available space there. Inside the house, we encountered a few inconveniences. The iron was difficult to locate and stored separately from the ironing board, which was unexpected. The creaking floorboards, particularly on the top floor, created a noisy environment for those below. The small kitchen and uncomfortable wooden chairs were less than ideal for extended periods of use. Additionally, the low ceilings and narrow, steep staircase posed hazards, and we found ourselves hitting our heads and tripping on small steps multiple times.

Basically a very pleasant and comfortable cottage for two people set in a lovely part of the Cotswolds within easy reach of numerous attractions, but, and there is always a but, the devil is in the detail and it is in the detail that this cottage fails.
Our feeling was that the owners have rather given up. The occupancy rate is clearly rather low and the level of care and attention likewise. All of the following complaints are, in themselves minor, but they add up to making what could be a really lovely experience turn out to be a bit frustrating. The information (or perhaps instruction) booklet clearly dates from Covid and has not been updated, similarly the rack of tourist information leaflets is wildly out of date, many are dated 2018. The lighting, particularly in the living room is so poor that reading during the evening is difficult. The TV is very small and the DVD player only worked once. The instruction book did not seem to refer to the TV on the premises and the remote control did not work properly. The kitchen was quite good but the fridge was only a larder fridge without even a compartment to make a tray of ice cubes or to freeze ice packs for picnics. There is no washing machine which is unusual these days. I believe that electrical appliances should have a PAT test certificate, only one had and this was some years out of date. I also believe there should be a gas safety certificate on the premises but we couldnât find one (forgive me if I am wrong about either of these points)
