What our customers say about their holidays
Gary - Verified booking
Malt House, Windrush, Gloucestershire.
When you invest £3000 for a weekâs holiday in the UK for your family you expect it to be something special. Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth. Gasping for a cup of tea after the long journey only to find kettle in a disgraceful state so I ended up having to descale it before use. My grandchildren wanted a cold drink, but the glassware was filthy so that too required cleaning. A kitchen drawer was full of water and some of the utensils inside were rusty. The washing machine had mould growing around the door evidence yet again that a proper cleaning regime wasnât in place. But worse was still to come. As the first day wore on, we were besieged by thousands of wood lice in both the living areas and bedrooms. We were constantly using the Henry to vacuum them up. The grandchildren were terrified and wouldnât sleep, the lice were crawling out of the loft hatch and falling on to their beds, they ended up sleeping with me and their parents. My son contacted Sykes only to be told it was just ânatureâ and that they would disappear when they learned that humans were there. This was rubbish and just a pathetic attempt to placate without doing anything. A holiday should be for rest and relaxation but was anything but. We toughed it out for a few days, vacuuming several times a day but in the end decided to come home early. Sykes were totally disinterested and did nothing to help. Sadly it would seem we may have to legal action unless Sykes respond positively.

This has been our third stay at The Malt House and itâs captivating charm continues elements of the house however are getting tired.
The house was cold when we arrived and took several days to warm up, not good when you have a small baby in the group. The en-suite to one of the main bedrooms which had a stone floor and walls was glacial, the underfloor heating did not work as the controls were off and the sole radiator did not have the capacity to heat the space consequently showers were taken quickly! The draught from the boiler flue casing that passes through the bathroom exacerbated to the chill. The drain to the walk in shower in the other bathroom was eventually cleared after a generous dose of Mr Muscle drain unblocker. The dishwasher did not wash clean and several items needed to be re washed each time after the machine had finished. The glassware for dining was lacking and a couple of tumblers were chipped and could not be used safely. This is not what one would expect for a house with such a high rental cost, and the âfearâ of COVID really deters you from calling in the housekeeper but, despite all of these issues, the house and itâs contents retain a charm, space and comfort that was ideal for a family group of our size, it just needs tweaking. Finally a Christmas tree, as we has been provided in the past, would have been nice particularly for my grand daughter.

My wife and I along with our daughter and husband, son and partner, granddaughter and their dog stayed for a week in Innisfallen House in June 2023.
The house is incredibly spacious, tasteful and very well-furnished. The gardens are very large with plenty of places for either a large family or those who like to spend their day in the garden and outside games for children and adults. The kitchen is exceptionally well stocked with cooking items, crockery, a dishwasher and a washing machine and we needed for nothing. The living room is spacious and has all the electronic devices, TV, wifi etc that you would expect for those rainy days. A welcome pack greets you to assist you for your first couple of days for tea, coffee and milk etc. The house itself is set in one of the most idyllic and historical villages in the country and there is lots to see in the area with beautiful countryside walks. The village has a lovely pub within walking distance and a very well-stocked village shop and the villagers are very friendly. We visited a pop-up coffee morning in a resident's garden and chatted with the villagers as if we lived there! The owners, Robert and Lorraine, communicated frequently to ensure our stay was nothing less than perfect and we have no hesitation in highly recommending their home to couples and families who want a lovely house in a beautiful and peaceful location and a great getaway!

Superb family week away!
It is a lovely old house with a wonderful conservatory and everything you could possibly need. The bedrooms are very large and extremely comfortable and the bathrooms are wonderful! The bedroom with two single beds (not shown in the advertising photographs) is quite small but ideal for two children. The room with three single beds has a narrow, very steep staircase and is not really suitable for very young children so my son brought down a mattress and bedding into their bedroom for their daughter. The garden is immense and beautifully maintained with interesting separate low-walled areas with seating - the Koi Carp were lovely to just sit and observe. The swimming pool was surprisingly warm and everybody enjoyed it tremendously. We were a family of 8 adults, one 2.5 year old, a three month old and three dogs and everybody had a great time with things to do/see quite close by to suit all ages. The robotic mower just trundled quietly around for a few hours on the large lawn every day and was quite fascinating to watch! WiFi is somewhat intermittent but works well in the kitchen, upstairs and in the conservatory. Would highly recommend The Malt House and we hope to visit again.

We had an excellent stay at Dove House Farm when we visited the property over the New Year period for 9 of us.
We had a warm welcome on arrival and we very much appreciated the spaciousness of the property. As we had three young children with us, the play room was a particular bonus and much enjoyed. There were many toys to play with and children's books to read. The private garden was also a great place for them to chase around and the boys enjoyed climbing on the quadro provided in the garden. For the adults, the superb coffee machine was a bonus and much appreciated. The particularly well equipped laundry room was a useful asset and all of the bedrooms were spacious. The initial cloakroom/dog space was ideal for leaving boots and keeping the rest of the house clean. The two decorated Christmas trees and Christmas lights outside all added to the festiveness of the family occasion. We can highly recommend Dove House Farm as a place to visit. Located nearby is a Park and Ride into Oxford which has ample parking.
