What our customers say about their holidays
Confirmed Guest - Verified booking
Scapa Lodge was a last-minute choice for us after accommodation we had already booked was withdrawn at short notice by its owner, but it turned out to be one of the most delightful holiday properties we have ever used. It is cosy, bright and well equipped and pleasingly situated within a large, quiet garden surrounded by fields. The owners, Debbie and Craig, were friendly, welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed the constant birdsong and I was delighted early one morning to hear, distantly, the beautiful song of a woodlark coming from Tunstall Common, which is only a couple of minutes’ stroll from the cottage and the start of many heathland and forest walks (with the chance of hearing nightingale and nightjar as well as woodlark). By car the cottage is within easy reach of destinations such as Woodbridge, Orford, Snape, Aldeburgh and Framlingham, and RSPB Minsmere is only 12 miles away. We have always enjoyed visiting this area, and we intend to return to Scapa Lodge next year.

I used Scapa Lodge as a base for cycling, for which it is ideal. There is a place to securely store your bike, and it is perfectly placed to explore all the delightful quite lanes and tracks that will take you up and down the coast or off into the equally good cycling inland. National cycle route 41 runs close by, and numbers 40 and 42 are not far off, (although bear in mind that Butley Ferry one the cycle route from Orford towards Felixstowe, only runs at weekends in the summer), although worth popping down anyway because it's a nice bit of route. Lots of local interest, Orford Ness, Snape Maltings, Aldborough etc, but in the end peaceful and beautiful quite lanes, with pretty historical villages are the main attraction. Craig and Debbie friendly and helpful if you need any advice.

My partner and I stayed at this delightful property in August 2019. It is owned by Craig and Debbie who were excellent hosts. They could not have been more helpful, advising us on where to go and what to see in the area. We were offered (and gratefully accepted) a lift to our concert at the famous Snape Maltings nearby so that we could enjoy some liquid Suffolk hospitality. The Lodge itself was spotlessly clean, warm and inviting. It was well-equipped and perfect for a short break or even a longer holiday. It is in a quiet part of the owners' garden with a small patio for sitting and enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine. We would recommend Scapa Lodge without hesitation! Nick and Isabelle.

We loved our stay at Scapa Lodge. It was well equipped and substantial to our needs. We enjoyed visiting the area. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and helpful with regards to what could be found locally. We visited The Plough & Sail pub in Snape for our wedding anniversary meal - the homemade food was delicious and the service excellent. We visited Aldeburgh and the Scallop Sculpture, Woodbridge, Orford Castle and Quayside, Sutton Hoo, Tunstall Forest and Thorpeness. We hope to return to the cottage another year.

We had a very friendly welcome from Deborah & Craig upon arrival at Scapa Lodge & were pleased with the welcome gift of tea, coffee and cookies. We have enjoyed walking from the door to Snape Maltings through Tunstall Forest and also walks from Aldeburgh, RSPB Minsmere, Rendlesham Forest, Orford & Southwold. Scapa Lodge is a very clean & cosy accommodation, perfectly located for a walking holiday - coastal, forest & heathland walks are all close by. Lynn & Kevin. Lincs
