What our customers say about their holidays
Darren - Verified booking
Property was lovely and accommodated our large group really well.
Each room was spacious and we enjoyed the multiple large spaces both downstairs and in the dining area. Bedrooms were a good size and meant we could accommodate family groups in specific rooms, the annex or top floor which was also helpful. The hot tub had been prepared on arrival too, and whilst the weather wasnât great, the hot tub was as nice to relax inâ¦. Would have been better with some external lighting, and maybe a covered area for when it was raining? The annex was also a really good space for a family with small kids to retire to, when the rest anted to stop up later⦠Top floor rooms were a little cold compared to rest of house (top floor electric heaters on timers versus central heating elsewhere). Also, the range cooker was ok and double oven really helpful, but the electric hob took a while to heat up and so cooking a stir fry or large breakfasts / dinners for 16-18 was a challengeâ¦. Lots of storage space for food, a good sized freezer complemented the two fridges and lots of plates and cutlery, exactly what was needed for a big family gathering, and hokey the dishwasher was also out to good useâ¦.. Outside the front access to walk the fields was overgrown, which limited our dog walking to the narrow road behind the house, which was slightly frustrating as we had two active / young dogs with usâ¦.. being able to access the field in front of the house for a country walk would have been good (despite the wet weather)â¦. Overall a very good stay, with a few minor improvements

The Searle is not really a cottage.
It is an apartment within a converted Pub. Had I known would not have booked it. extremely clean and modern decor. apart from the old disgusting dirty and stained bedroom curtains hanging off the rails. Also issues with lack of clothes wardrobe . The soot and water mix from leaking chimney stack staining the back wall of fire place. The kitchen had long term (see past reviews) breakages and missing cooking items. Self catering!!?? The outside in a state of neglect and dis-repair. Leaking hot tub . Owner switched it off. There is no garden. It is a concrete âyardâ, with a trip hazard foot path from entrance gate. Secondary gate latch hanging off â¦.not pet safe. Render and crack damage around entrance door, walls and damp course level. Blocked (long term growing vegetation) rain guttering, creating a Niagara Falls onto path slabs . Sleep was impossible. Then I saw the Property for sale sign, since March 2024. I concluded this was a significant reason for Searleâs general dis-repair and the owners non- commitment to her property and her guests mental comfort. When sold it is somebody elseâs problem. Three days in I had enough . left and returned home. Left comments in guest book , dated and signed . I text owner Sara Jay/Jane when home. To date I have not had a reply. I did not expect one . This standard is not what I expect from Sykes Cottages. Please see my account list of prev cottages and 10/10 reviews. Kind regards Michael Reid

First time at St Marks School house and it was amazing!
Nestled just on the edge of Elan Valley, St Marks sits surrounded by hills with views for miles direct from the window. On arrival the property was clean, tidy and felt really homely. The central heating was on and warm but also the log fire was prepared ready for lighting if needed. Essentials like cake, milk, teabags and coffee was on hand in order to make a brew after the long drive down, great little touch I thought. This little house is full of character, from its timber beams to its original slate worktops reclaimed from when the house used to be a school. There is fantastic dog walks right from the doorstep, with a forest less than fifty metres away which felt like you had to yourself due to the lack of people there. Great if you have a reactive dog like I do. The owners was fantastic, with great communication. They even went as far as leaving a guide book with tips and hints about heating, recycling, emergency numbers, where to eat when out etc. Also walks to take, plus if you have a dog then which walks will require your dog to be leashed (or not) in order not to scare livestock. All in all, this place is great for a couple or a single person (with two dogs) like myself wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Would I recommend - Absolutely! Will I be back - Most definitely!!!

What a charming cabin!
We needed a relaxing weekend break and we couldn't have asked for more - gorgeous views of the valleys, countryside, not to mention all the baby lambs we saw on the drive in/out! The interior of the cabin feels immensely fresh and stylish, with so much attention to detail, and a full range of cutlery and utensils which was fab! There is mobile signal and wifi which was an added bonus though still feel so disconnected from the rest of the world which is exactly what we were hoping for. The hosts were lovely to meet and very quick to answer any questions! The cabins are easy to find so long as you follow the directions correctly. So many wonderful places to explore. Our small dog and toddler were able to play at their leisure in the enclosed garden. There is a second cabin too which if travelling in bigger groups would make a great additional space, as well as an extra hot tub! The hot tub was especially relaxing and very easy to work. We will definitely be returning! You will not regret staying here, thank you so much for having us â¡

What a wonderful lodge, a gem of a find.
My husband and I (and our two dogs) had a very pleasant stay with fantastic views, accommodation and facilities, everything you would need and like for a relaxing break away as a couple, family or group of friends. Banty and Rachel had thought about the customer experience very well, which included a rather lovely and well thought out welcome pack, and also for the pooches. There was various books and games to play too. The accommodation was very comfortable to stay in, including the beds. We took our PS5 so we could also watch Netflix, Sky Go, listen to music, or play on the console as desired. The hot tub was very well maintained, one of the cleanest weâve been in, and was very relaxing taking in the breathtaking views. The dogs loved being able to run around in the enclosed garden and to watch and listen to the sheep in the fields and also numerous species of birds. We enjoyed it so much so that weâve booked to return again in a couple of months time.
