What our customers say about their holidays

We had a brilliant week at Glenridding Cottage.
The cottage itself was fantastic, everything we needed was catered for and Allyson certainly has an eye for the finishing touch. The layout was great and the room sizes were perfect for up to 6 people I would say, even though there was only two of us (and two dogs). Allyson and Mark live in the adjoining cottage and are on hand to help with any questions without being intrusive, they are both very friendly and Allyson tells a great story - very funny :). Allyson thinks of everything, for the humans and for any dogs in the party, and on leaving asked us if there was anything we wanted during our stay, which she hadn't provided, honestly, we couldn't think of anything! What the website doesn't show you is the beautiful big garden, which is in two sections, so you can limit where your dogs go, if you want to. The garden is completely enclosed and private, which was very important for us, having two inquisitive dogs. We were lucky with the weather during our week and actually stayed in the cottage and gardens on two days, sunbathing and lazing around, relaxing, which we have never done before - I personally loved the snug where I would sneak off too for a bit of me time, when it got too hot. We spend a week in The Lakes every year and this cottage was the best we have stayed in and we will be going back in the future. It's always a bit of a gamble, choosing where to stay, but we struck lucky this year for sure.

On arrival I would suggest a map of the site be available at reception as it took a while finding the Lodge.
Also, having to walk to the lodge to pick up the key and the fob needed to gain access with car was a pain. The lodge was clean and the welcoming basket was a nice touch. The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable however, the 2nd bedroom had a matress which was smaller than the base and not to comfortable. The recliner couch looked good on photo's (home from home), but wasn't comfy at all. The back was loose and to far back when upright. I felt like turning it up end to tighten any loose bolt's as I have done with my own. There was an upright vacumm which was empty on first sight but wasn't picking up. I took a closer look and found the pipe and filters totally blocked. I cleared it and washed the filters, although not the best it did pick up. Our stay was relaxing and the weather was good and hot which meant the balcony was very well used and enjoyed. The view of the lake was very nice. It would have been good to have the use of a cantilver umbrella as the deck was in full sun from midday until sunset, also a couple of fans would have given some relief from the heat indoors. These additions would have made are stay perfect. All in all we had a good stay, liked the site with all amenities close by. We would recommend this lodge.

Glenridding Cottage is a real gem.
A very clean, well equipped and cosy place but above that it is super dog friendly and well located. The garden is big and totally secureâ¦even for two mischievous cocker spaniel escape artists and there was a dog gate to prevent them going upstairsâ¦.this made things so much easier!! There were plenty of dog bowls and even some treats were left for them as a welcome gift (lovely touch!). There is also âmud daddyâ dog shower which was great as they did come back muddy after walking. The cottage is in a great location for walking - from the door (the Lady Anneâs Way trail passes the door) and also plenty of places a short drive away including High Cup Nick (Dufton) and Low and High Force (both Pennine Way). Unfortunately we had terrible weather on our visit but the cottage has loads of games, DVDs and a lovely fire so after shorter walks than weâd planned we were able to comfortably hunkered down. I wouldnât hesitate to recommend this cottage and hope to return in better weather to take greater advantage of the walking (and gardenâ¦.which really is lovely)

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of Easter.
Allyson was a perfect host, leaving a little gift for our dog and also a few treats for us. The property was spotless, extremely comfortable and well looked after. We don't think there are photos of the garden area on the listing, so this was an added bonus upon our arrival to see three separate garden areas to enjoy. We managed to park our large car out the front no problem, tight against the front wall. Despite its rural location, there are several dog friendly pubs and restaurants to eat in locally within a 5-10 minute drive in nearby Brough, Kirkby Stephen etc. The Pennine Hotel's pizzeria in Kirkby Stephen was probably the most dog friendly place we have been to eat. Within 15-20 minutes of the M6 South and North and about 40 mins from places like Keswick, this is an ideal and unspoilt location. Would recommend the half hour drive across the Pennines to Middleton-on-Tees to see High Force waterfall. Will definitely return.
