What our customers say about their holidays
Chloe - Verified booking
The location of this cottage to start off is amazing, there is no shortage of walks, the nearby town was lovely.
We really wanted to love it here, but we really wouldnât return in all honesty. To start with, upon booking the only request in regards to a dog is âwell behavedâ, I personally think this is really subjective, our dog is perfectly well behaved to our standards, but for this cottage upon arrival we realised it was quite extreme. Our dog usually sleeps with us in our room, is allowed on our couch as we treat her entirely as part of our family, I wouldnât say thatâs badly behaved at all, but the request for absolutely no dogs upstairs or on any furniture was found upon our arrival in the file youâre given detailing facilities in the house, our dog was expected to stay in the kitchen overnight which we found impossible given weâve never made her do that before, weâve been on several dog friendly holidays in the UK and weâve never came across such ridiculous unrealistic rules, you may as well not have it be dog friendly, the only good aspect for our dog was a large private back garden. Iâd recommend instead of something as subjective as âwell behaved dogsâ advertised, perhaps list all your rules as many people will not be able to facilitate your requirements. The gift basket provided, while appreciated, was not at all good, our milk was completely off and had curdled before weâd even arrived, the bacon had its expiry date what looked like torn off, so we didnât risk eating that. The jam, had green mold all over the top of it, so if thatâs the standard, I really wouldnât bother doing it in the future for guests, unless maybe we were unlucky and got that as a one off. No one had informed us, but our water and heating was all completely switches off, to my surprise when I went to shower in freezing cold water. My partner had to turn all of this back on by the mains switches, and it took a full day for it to take effect, not exactly what you want after a six hour commute. There were stains on carpets upstairs in various places in one of the bedrooms. Positive points however are the kitchen was the best equipped kitchen Iâd encountered, the log burner was lovely on a night time, you have full access to all sky channels which is handy when winding down on the night time. this was a last minute booking, but for the money we paid we expected a little bit better, so we wonât return unfortunately.

Prior to our trip to Scotland, Roxane the host, phoned in advance to ask what we would like in our welcome pack and what activities we were interested in so she could e-mail details in advance.
Having stayed in numerous holiday cottages over the years, this is the first time weâve had a welcome call and thought it was a lovely gesture. Directions to the cottage arenât clear on the Sykes website but we phoned Roxane and she guided us in. Verdi cottage is bijou, but very well appointed with quality furnishings. Freshly cut flowers, bathrobes and fluffy white towels, give it a luxurious feel. I am not a dog lover and when a cottage is advertised as âdog friendlyâ I am normally wary, but I neednât have been. Verdi is spotlessly clean with not even the slightest whiff of dog. The welcome pack was without doubt the best we have had in a holiday cottage. Full of fresh quality local produce and bottle of good quality wine . The bathrooms are lovely and are serviced by a huge boiler which meant we always had an abundance of high pressure hot water. The main bedroom is advertised as having a super-king bed, but it is in fact king-sized. While we were staying we asked for extra towels and a couple of items that were missing in the kitchen. They were provided without question. The cottage has access to a lovely side garden with a table, chairs and BBQ. There is also a separate laundry house with washer, dryer, detergent and an abundance of spares (cleaning fluid, bin liners, toilet rolls etc.) We also had access to a log store and Athol, the owner, offered us use of his golf clubs. All at no extra cost ! Roxane, Athol and their family live in the house across the courtyard and were on hand to recommend local activities and places to eat. We spent most of the week in and around Loch Tay at Kenmore, which is stunning and great for water sports and open water swimming. A tip for those visiting the area is not to assume that you can just walk in to a pub or restaurant and get a drink/ meal. Many places are suffering from post-Covid staff shortages and are closed for part of the week. The Inn on the Tay and the Grandtully Hotel are both very good, but booking several days ahead is essential if you want to eat anywhere half decent. The hosting most definitely made our stay at Verdi cottage, nothing was too much trouble and we felt like part of the family for the week we stayed. We were genuinely sad to leave and will definitely return.

Verde Cottage is a beautiful home from home.
Fixtures and fittings were good quality and the welcome package was very much appreciated after a long journey. Host was very informative, friendly and we loved the dogs too. *Bed was comfy and lots of storage in the room. *Lounge seating was also very comfy and the TV package was better than anywhere else we'd stayed. Watching a movie or the latest sports, in the evening was a great way to unwind after a busy day. *Bathroom downstairs had a big bath which my husband loves. The only issue was the ceiling being a little mouldy (probably needs better ventilation over the shower) and the sink taps were very stiff. *Kitchen was well equipped and the mobile island made up for the lack of worktop space for dishing up etc.. *Outside space was better at the front. The rear entrance door lock was very stiff so we didn't use the outside space to the rear, which could be a lovely private space for outside dining or reading etc.. *Location was spot on and right near the river where you can paddle or watch people canoeing. A very short walk to the nearest shop and pub/restaurant. All we could hear was birds chirping and the river rushing. It's also a great place for star gazing. It's so dark at night we could see so many stars. I could've stayed out all night if I had a telescope. Exactly what we needed and couldn't have predicted the sunny hot weather which also helped. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Puccini Cottage, The cottage is a stylish conversion of a former outbuilding.
It has a lovely walk- in rain shower plus a further bathroom upstairs. A modern kitchen is well equipped with all you need to cook while you're on your holidays. Prior to our arrival I was a little concerned about several negative reviews but I need not have worried. I can only conclude there are some very sad individuals who spend their lives looking for problems and finding things to moan about. I think such individuals lack the imagination to rejoice in the stunning location, the beautiful verdant lush greenery, peace and quiet and a whole host of places to visit, both near and far. (we personally are not troubled by a few nettles)! We were most appreciative of the more than generous grocery box, probably the best welcome pack we have received since staying in holiday cottages. This contained very many goodies including the most delicious cheese scone I have ever tasted! Thank you so much for your kind generosity! We would highly recommend staying at Puccini, for the charming accommodation, the location and the close proximity to so many places of interest.

This is a lovely cottage, small but perfect for up to 4 people.
Beautifully decorated with furnishings in great condition. There is a log burner which we didnât have to use- there are electric radiators throughout- very modern and very hot, the property is clearly very well insulated as we didnât feel the cold from outside despite on occasion freezing November winter temperatures. Plenty of TV channels- if you want to watch tv, also a Bluetooth speaker. Dog friendly, take a torch for evening walks in winter months (although there are some within the cottage) The In on the Tay is dog friendly and within walking distance as is The Highland Chocolatier. There is a small Spar shop/post office also nearby. The rural location is perfect for escaping city living. The owners are a family who live on site, very friendly and helpful should you need anything (which we didnât) I would definitely stay in this cottage again, and most definitely recommend Verdi or the attached cottage Puccini.
