What our customers say about their holidays

Itâs the worst cottage Iâve ever stayed in, and weâve never had the feeling where we want to get home.
We arrived in the dark, and went straight to bed, however even in the tiredness there was a smell. We woke up the following day, and the first thing we done was to go in the garden with the dogs. They couldnât use it as it was so overgrown they couldnât walk through it, and there was dog poo everywhere. There is a resident next door who said he cleared the path of dog poo also. The owner did get the garden sorted. I wouldnât also class the garden as enclosed. Anyone at anytime can walk through as thereâs a path that runs through the middle, it also isnât very accessible and itâs quite dangerous, especially the steps down to the house as they are steep. Even worse when itâs been raining as there is a lot of moss which is very slippery. There are also two dog bowls in the garden which have been sat there a while as they had green algae floating in them. Back to the property, the smell we couldnât get rid of and it stuck to all of our clothes. Unfortunately there is no washing machine to be able to wash the clothes. The property itself needs renovation work done as itâs very dated and also not practical. The floorboards in areas rock and squeak so loud so you cannot get up during the night without waking everyone up. The stairs are dangerously steep and narrow. They are not child or dog friendly, as an adult can barely get down them without holding on. The ceilings are also so low going into the bathroom you have to remember to duck. The bathroom is just not practical, itâs tiny. If you are of a larger size then I wouldnât bother booking! The toilet flush is temperamental, the water in the sink ran out brown on and off which was disgusting. The shower has mould in, and the shower is just appalling. There is no water pressure unless youâd like an ice cold shower. You have to turn it right up and run it for a good 5 minutes before any hot water comes out (same with taps throughout), and it dribbles! It eventually scalds you and then you turn to put a little cold water in the mix and it turns to ice. Downstairs was ok, again just very dated and smelt. The sofa is squeaky. The kitchen is also tiny, and has to be spread out for storage into the dining room. The fridge was turned off when we arrived so had to switch that on to get it cold and the freezer door was broken. The windows are draughty and the bedroom one didnât close properly. We also had rain when staying and they leaked water inside. The front door and porch door also need sorting as they donât close properly. The porch door is very worse for wear as itâs splitting and is probably due to be replaced. The last thing, is the parking. Itâs appalling that a cottage hasnât got any form of parking. It confuses me why all the others along the row have parking round the side and this one doesnât? You have to leave your car parked against a wall tight, on a narrow country road. There is a pub opposite which the owner could make an agreement with that one car could park there! Overall, I wouldnât stay here again and we were really disappointed as it looked really lovely in the images but Sykes really need to update the listing to be accurate. I did contact during the stay, but they were so slow to respond that I gave up waiting. We spend so much time travelling the UK with the dogs, and go to a lot of cottages, but this one just doesnât seem fit to be renting out to the public. It really needs updating and work done prior to doing this! We thought maybe because it was a listed property, thatâs why theyâve not done anything with it, but then we looked on a competitors website at the rental cottage next door and theyâve made it practical! I feel so bad but someone needs to be honest to help get this improved and itâs very disappointing at present.

Our stay at the dairy cottage was perfect, the cottage itself was absolutely beautiful.
Every room was very clean and very well maintained. We were worried about the WiFi having read previous reviews, but we had no issues at all - 4 of us were all connected and the WiFi was still very quick. There was work going on at the new cottage next door, but it was no interruption at all. They were very quiet each day and we didnât even realise they were there! We were provided with tea, coffee, biscuits on arrival, as well as given essentials of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, new bin liners, etc. which made it super easy to tidy up after ourselves before checking out. Accessing the cottage wasnât ideal in a small, low car. The tracks to and from are slightly rocky and bumpy so can be a difficult drive for quite a low car. We found that the easiest and least bumpy way to access the cottage would be to head towards Abbotsbury - as you leave the cottage, turn right and head up the steep hill - the track is just over a mile before hitting the main roads! Luckily, we saw a review on here to explain about locating the cottage by spotting a green sign. Perhaps a bigger sign with the name of the cottage on the track would help other people find their way easily. Our only feedback would be the security of the garden for four-legged friends! We took our small cockapoo with us on our holiday. The garden itself is absolutely gorgeous and one of the reasons why we chose the cottage was that it mentioned it was enclosed and secured for dogs. We would agree that if you have a medium/large sized dog, this would be the case. However, the two garden gates and the 3 fence panels to the right side of the property are high enough for a little dog to escape under, which our dog did. Luckily we saw him creep under and were able to catch him, however we then had to secure these little gaps ourselves. Other than that, our stay was absolutely fantastic and we had a lovely time. We would definitely stay at the dairy cottage again. Thank you.

We were happy with the location of the Boat House while we were in Weymouth for an event.
The living room, dining room & master bedroom on top floor at front of the property were lovely rooms. However, there were multiple issues with the property. These are outlined below: - Wifi/broadband was extremely poor quality. A friend trying to work from the property was not able to. Owner was aware of this issue but it should definitely be made clear that the property cannot support working from home. - Intermittent flashing light bulb in 1st floor bathroom. - Toilet seat in 1st floor bathroom had completely come off the basin. - Blind in back bedroom on top floor broken. - Cupboard doors throughout the property don't shut once opened or are very difficult to open. We're aware this may be to do with the damp but some could be fixed or adjusted to be easier to use. - Floorboards in hallway were lifted & causing a trip hazard. Owner Mile did try to attend to this while we were staying but it remained a hazard & we were unable to shut inner door. - The damp throughout property was extensive, particularly on the ground floor & in the back bedroom on ground floor. This is a health hazard. - There was no door covering the boiler in the 1st floor twin room which made the noise of the boiler in the bedroom loud & disturbed sleep. - There were several occasions when there was a very strong sewage smell throughout the ground floor. This may be to do with the tides but this was particularly unpleasant. - Moldy coffee grounds left in the stove top coffee caffitiere. - Bins in the kitchen were dirty on arrival. Some of these issues, we recognise, may not be easily fixed due to the location on the harbour front. Mike did respond & explain what had been done to try and fix some of the problems when we raised these at the time.

Itâs a lovely cottage and location.
The cottage has comfortably sized bedrooms, living room and dining room. The original open fireplace is a lovely addition although not needed for a summer stay. We liked being able to pop over the road for a drink in the good quality pub-restaurant and loved being able to walk through the fields to the coast and observe local wildlife: deer, hares and many birds. Langton Herring is in easy reach of Weymouth, Lulworth Cove, Bridport and Lyme Regis. We didnât like the tiny bathroom or having to crouch to move from room to room upstairs. Smartening up the bathroom would help a lot, as would some subtle signage to remind guests to duck to avoid banging their head at the top of the stairs. Parking was fine once weâd worked it out. A map of where to park would be much more useful than the photos provided in the folder. Having to double bag all rubbish, as stated in the hostâs information folder, was the worst thing. Having paid a lot of money, being required to fish rubbish out of the bin to double-bag it just so the owner can avoid paying trade rates for waste felt very unwelcome. Itâs not our responsibility to help someone avoid paying taxes they donât like.

Excellent holiday home.
Lovely rural location which was very peaceful (donât be put off by the âworking farmâ description!), although worth saying itâs quite a long fairly bumpy track to get to the house. Very easy key collection from key box. Every room was very tastefully decorated, with all the facilities you could want and very clear instructions for all of them. We have a toddler so were very pleased to have a highchair, cot and stairgate all provided, and it was very helpful that there is a door at the bottom of the stairs that you can close too. Very nice garden and outdoor seating area, although it was a bit too cold to enjoy that fully. Comfy beds and pillows, good shower, and lovely to have local biscuits, coffee and milk on arrival. (Tea bags and instant coffee also provided.) Only suggestions would be to make one of the bathroom doors less stiff as it was very difficult to close, and the directions could be slightly improved, I.e specifying the road name for one of the final turnings approaching from Dorchester (Litton Road) and the fact that the last turning is signed for Ashley Chase Estate Office.
