What our customers say about their holidays
Kerry - Verified booking
Our extended family have used Sykes cottages/houses for many years now and enjoyed the high standard of quality homes/cottages and customer service throughout.
Particularly when we stayed at Baytree Lodge in Osmington which went above and beyond our expectations. However, we were somewhat disappointed with this particular house. On the whole the house itself was stunning. However, Just from personal preference the house would have been enjoyed more if there had been ensuite bathrooms, if it had a dryer as well as a washing machine; a larger table in the conservatory area as this was a preferred eating place to the lounge. From an overall perspective we were very disappointed with the fact we arrived on the Friday only to find all the outside wheelie bins full and overflowing. We later discovered the bin collection was not until Tuesday and even on that day, only one bin was emptied. This meant we had nowhere to put the rubbish and had to put it all in bags in the garage until we left, only for the next family to arrive and find the exact same issues we did. Although the WiFi was not working when we arrived this issue was dealt with quickly within 24 hours. Our expectations of cleanliness are very high and usually met however, the overall cleanliness of this house was poor as most rooms appeared dusty and the kitchen fridge, microwave and oven were (without exaggeration) filthy. My father and brother spent 2 hours cleaning down all of these areas before we could use them. Although the gentleman whom my sister in law complained to, on the phone did offer to send someone round to clean the house, it had already been done by then. We would still highly recommend the group and hence the high score of 9, as we still had an enjoyable holiday, and we have spent many years enjoying the quality homes that you normally provide. However, We just would not expect the poor level of cleanliness from this property and thus disappointed. This is the reason we only gave a 3 for this property.

Review Thank you so much for our stay, We had the best time ever for our sisters Hen do!
All the guests were very delighted to have been in such an amazing property that offers their guests the highest levels of luxury through personalized services, a vast range of amenities, and a very well sophisticated accommodation. Archstone house offers luxurious décor and carefully selected furnishings with high attention to detail. The guestrooms and suites are tastefully decorated with high quality furnishings and consistent design, ample space, king sized beds and premium bedding. Archstone house was very clean when we had arrived! We are quite lucky in the sense that we have been one of the first to be able to visit as there is no snagging or anything in the property. The only thing I would like to add is,( now this is not a complaint but please take it as feedback, as it may help guests in the future) it would be nice to add some different types of cleaning products, ( fairy, sponges, cleaning sprays, wipes), Maybe some complimentary toiletries in the bathroom (shampoo, conditioner, body wash) As we had to go out and buy our own, It was a slight inconvenience as we were not familiar with the area yet. For example these are everyday essentials which we could have bought from home, but we had thought for the price we had paid these would be provided as you would in any 5* hotel. It would also be good to add some door hooks, door locks in bedrooms and bath mats and shower mats. Lastly I would like to appreciate the communication between us and the booking was on point, the whole booking process was made easy, with us having a large group, some of us had questions to ask, so anytime we asked anything Becky was to hand and able to answer anything. Thank you so much to the team at Archstone house, we hope to visit again soon.

This is a wonderful large property which the owners have lovingly restored.
The bedrooms were very comfy and the whole property was very, very clean throughout and we appreciated the lovely welcome gifts for humans and pet :). The parking is ample we parked two very large vehicles and a smaller car with room for another. We all enjoyed the games room which was an added bonus. I also feel that not enough is made of the sea view in the property advert, you can see the sea from every room of the house and the garden which is sooo nice. The shops and seafront are very close which we walked to everyday easily in 5 - 10 minutes and for photographers the sun rises across the ocean are amazing, the pathway from the house is reasonably steep but very doable and there are taxis parked in the town if needed for less able so don't let this put you off. It is a very nice property to share with family and friends but spaced out bedrooms and lots of downstairs seating with ample space inside and out makes it easy and lovely to share but to also have your privacy as well. Teignmouth and the surrounding areas are beautiful, I don't think I have ever visited a place where you can see the coast from any direction you choose to walk or travel in. My only tip is book restaurants before you arrive all the ones in town are excellent with great reviews hence all were fully booked so we did struggle to eat out locally. I would definitely recommend this property and Sykes cottages whom we booked through were most helpful and easy to get hold of throughout the entire process , we also had a few extra asks of our property during our stay which they dealt with easily and very efficiently.

Our family of 11, across 3 generations very much enjoyed our stay at the Coach House.
Location was great and we were on one or other of the local beaches on most days, even with indifferent weather. It was a very easy walk down to the closest beach, even with all of our paraphernalia loaded onto a beach trolley. Easy access to the Lido. We were there for the end of Carnival Week, which was a nice surprise. There is a Water Festival next week, and there seemed to be lots to do around the area if the weather is less than great. Overall, it was an excellent place to stay, with easy access on arrival using the key box, 3 house keys provided so that we could all come and go as we wished and the games room was enjoyed by the children. Netflix on the television was useful for a wet and windy morning. A couple of early problems were quickly resolved by the caretaker and owner. Worth mentioning is that the kitchen is a little small for a group of 11 people, but we got used to working around each other. There is definitely noise from the road which is immediately adjacent to the Coach House. Several of us in our group use earplugs anyway to help us sleep so it wasnât too bad, but with windows open on a warm night there is noticeable traffic noise as vehicles accelerate up Dawlish Road. However, neither the kitchen size nor the proximity to the road would stop us booking the Coach House again. The children especially enjoyed going through the Smugglers Tunnel to Ness Cove beach.

The Coach House was a perfect choice of home for our holiday with our very large Great Dane dog .
Firstly he thanks you for his welcome gift. It was so lovely to arrive and be able to have a cup of tea and biscuit, thank you for all the other goodies. Your home is very clean which is the most important thing for us for a holiday break...Great space in all the rooms .Bedding and towels all lovely and clean .We did not cook while we were away but the kitchen looked very well equipped if you needed to. There are torches around the house in case of power cut .also batterie operated candles for the evenings. Great private garden and very secure for our Henry. The games room was very good. Our daughter came to visit us for a couple of days while we were there and she was very impressed with the Coach House. We found Teighnmouth such a friendly place. The beach is just a 5 minute walk from the house which was perfect. Lots to do and see around Teighnmouth. Also some lovely eating places. We would without a doubt highly recommend The Coach House. The only criticism I have is that there are two hoovers and neither of them are very powerful enough for a pet friendly home. Hope everyone enjoys there holiday as much as we did. Thank you to the owners. Denise, Phil and Henry.
