What our customers say about their holidays
Jamie - Verified booking
Although the location of this property is fantastic, we do not recommend it as somewhere to stay on holiday.
Poorly equipped with miss-matched cutlery, few plates, bowls, mugs etc. just enough for the amount of people which isnât great! Most importantly no blind or curtain on widow in the double bedroom upstairs- the neighbours over the road could literally watch us sleeping (it is a velux window that is below the height of the over road neighbours bedroom so they can literally look down into the room)!!!! Not to mention having nothing to block the light when we were trying to sleep! The upstairs shower is duct taped to the floor so very wobbly and the downstairs shower leaks into the hallway to a huge extent and as it is tiled flooring makes a huge safety issue- our children slipped a couple of times despite us mopping after every shower. The double bed upstairs is also very uncomfortable and lumpy! The owners clearly do not care about the property or about the comfort of the people staying there, itâs a shame as the layout is great and lovely location. Also the property was not in a clean state when we arrived. There was so so much dog hair from previous stays- there were literally hair balls in the corners of the living room and we had to retrieve a toy from under the sofa- I wish we left it there as it was covered in dust and hair! There was cutlery in the draw that still had oil and what we think was honey on so we then had to wash everything to make sure it was clean enough to use. Sorry, we cannot recommend this property and hope Sykes contact the owner regarding the lack of privacy/ blinds in the double room upstairs as well as the safety issues regarding both showers.

We go to the Lakes a lot, and always around bonfire night to get our dogs away from all the madness.
We have always stayed in cottages, so this was our first time in a lodge. I have to say this is the best accommodation we've ever stayed at, and I'd always look fo book a lodge first in future. It really did feel like a home from home and because there are only a small number of lodges it feels really private. The beds and bedding are top hotel quality, absolutely gorgeous. Everything worked like a dream and it was equipped to the best standard, you really couldn't ask for more. Really cosy and the wood burner was really efficient and we didn't use as much wood as we do back home. It's really spacious and the pictures just don't do it justice, we absolutely loved everything about this lodge. Some kind of bucket or something would be helpful to clean muddy paws, but we cobbled something together to make it work. Definitely get a supermarket delivery if you can, there were a number of deliveries around us while we were there. Access is really easy. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this gorgeous lodge to anyone and we'd definitely come again. Thank you for letting us stay in your gorgeous home from home.

The property is well placed and the car space invaluable.
The house is clean and tidy, bright, comfortable and has plenty of kitchen equipment should you want to cook. The little rear garden gets plenty of sun and has a little table and chairs. The living flame fire in the lounge was lovely, the sofas are very comfy. It is only about a 5 minute walk into town, a couple of minutes walk to Fitz Park. The twin bedrooms are bright and light. The bathroom is lovely with a huge bath, light, bright and spacious. The en-suite bedroom is bright, nicely decorated with plenty of storage, including a large chest of drawers and a wardrobe with plenty of hangers. I found the mattress on the bed to be quite uncomfortable as it is very firm/hard and had to use a duvet from one of the single beds to make a mattress topper. The shower is very powerful which is great, however you cannot adjust the shower head which is fine if youâre 6â tall, Iâm not! Apart from the couple of gripes, really enjoyed our stay, would still book again and recommend to others.

Really bad squeaky floor in bedroom needs sorting, hard to go to the toilet in the night without waking your other half.
The house had everything you could want, but I would suggest emptying one of the cupboards so you can store your groceries. Canât believe I am complaining about too much stuff in the cupboards, when itâs normally the opposite, lol. The view from the front is beautiful & we loved the birds, they descended as soon as we put seed out. Normally itâs sparrows that dominate our feeders not Chaffinches & Goldfinches. The walk across the road to the river is lovely and quiet. It was perfect timing for us, before the campsite opened up for the year. You can walk over to Wainwrights pub or grab a drink & lunch at the Britannia Inn at the end of the walk to Elterwater, which you can walk too directly from the house. Local small co-op in the village with a cafe above which is open until 3pm, as we were only on a short break we never got to visit so canât comment on the food. But both pubs mentioned had a lovely menu. On reflection it is somewhere we would happily return too.

Property was lovely and spacious very modern an felt homely.
It was a lovely village to stay in. We did find the oven /microwave and fridge not very clean. The shower in the downstairs bathroom when using the top shower head causes the water to go out under the door into the hallway. In the kitchen there was little cutlery 4 forks and 1 dessert spoon between 6 of us. The patio door (left side) key when used to unlock had snapped. Being a dog owner I found it surprising there were no gate/fence around the property to keep the dog in. A blind in the upstairs double bedroom would also benefit from a blind in the velux window. Also had trouble connecting to the WIFI password was incorrect when enter from the back of the router and there were a couple passwords written in the comment book which we struggled to read if some where capital letters/numbers. We tried to call mobile number thats was left which was not recognised. I think if these little things were addressed it would have been a more pleasurable stay.
