What our customers say about their holidays
Harish - Verified booking
Very pleasant cottage in an excellent location.
Very clean, and comfortable beds. The café across the road was excellent as well. Having said that, there are a few concerns I would like to raise. 1. The place was very cold when we arrived. The heating was subsequently efficient, but with underfloor heating (which we also have at home and are familiar with) it takes a few hours so it wasn't until the following day that it actually felt warm enough to be comfortable. 2.Given the above, I was very keen to start the fire in the first floor living room. Unfortunately that was not working. I contacted the number we were given and the response was very helpful and a handyman attended shortly - on a Sunday evening. I was impressed until he told me that he could not fix it and he would arrange a gas engineer to attend the following day. More concerning was that he informed me that this fire was regularly breaking down and he attends to it all the time. 3. The next morning the gas engineer attended. Again very pleasant and tried to help but could not as some parts needed replacing. Would take several days, understandably. So we never had a functioning fire during our stay there. Again the most telling comment was when the gas/heating engineer informed me that he has been out to that fire several times, most recently just 2-3 weeks previously. How is this an acceptable level of maintenance for a property being rented out in the manner it is? 4. We had booked to be there for Christmas. Perhaps you can understand the expectation of atmosphere we had in those circumstances. The advert for this cottage mentions that fire prominently. The fact that it was not working significantly affected our enjoyment of the property in the festive days, We were looking forward to sitting around with a fire like that for visual/aesthetic enjoyment, if not for heat. In the event, we arrived to a very cold house AND with the advertised fire not working. 4. The kitchen facilities were adequate, but I would not describe them as outstanding. It is always a bit difficult using a strange kitchen, but some basics were missing/difficult to find. We had to purchase oven gloves, which you may have noticed we left behind so that subsequent occupants may be spared that inconvenience. 5 The seating throughout the house - by which I mean the settees and sofas on the lower and first floors - felt generally lumpy and uncomfortable. We all felt that, as I did check that I wasn't just personally being demanding. This again was tolerable, but not brilliant. 6. The parking space needs to be described more accurately. It is in fact a small wedge shaped area that is difficult to manoeuvre anything medium or larger into; we were unable to use it but fortunately there is street parking at this time of year. Could be very different between March and September Overall we enjoyed the area and exploring the neighbourhood. But did not appreciate arriving to a cold house and a fire that never worked. The latter affected our enjoyment of the property over Christmas. Had the fire not working been a fresh issue, I would understand that these things happen. However, this is clearly an ongoing problem and therefore the advert is deliberately misleading and represents a breach of what we paid for. It remains a part of the advert for this cottage and I find that objectionable. I look forward to a response to this feedback

We have very mixed emotions regarding Shore View.
It is in a great position with fabulous sea views and has been created with a lot of thought given to the decor and high end fittings. However, the same consideration has not been given to the cleaning and maintenance of the property. It was dirty, with thick black dust in the crockery cupboard, the top of the fridge/freezer, even on the poles on the kitchen wall holding the hooks for the mugs. All the drawers had crumbs in them, there were food stains/marks on the kitchen walls and on the window shutters by the sink. The backsplash to the range oven was greasy and there is food baked on to the shelves inside the oven. The surface of the outside table was dirty, with cigarette butts left under it and in a rusty can. A deep clean is required in each shower cubicle, where there is a build up of dirt. The freezer needs defrosting. The paintwork is in need of a refresh in some areas and the handles on the wardrobes in the double and single bedded rooms need tightening up. A chest of drawers in the double room would have been useful. With hindsight, I should have contacted Yorkshire cottages to advise them, but I didn't realise the extent of the problem until I started cleaning and then I continued with further family members due to arrive expecting a meal to be served. We will return again to Sandsend, which is in an excellent position, being a quieter place with a lovely beach and several places to eat out, but only a mile to walk into Whitby. However, we will not be staying at Shore View.

This house although nicely decorated has Not been newly refurbished.
The furniture is terribly uncomfortable and very low to the floor. The top floor twin bedroom is Not suitable for adults as the staircase takes a chunk out of the room area, so the bed legs have been taken off. In all three bathrooms the tops of radiators were black never been cleaned found that out when I draped a towel over the top and the cleaners do not take care when cleaning the wash basins the over flow is dirty. Some of the kitchen crockery was chipped we left them on the bottom shelf to highlight this. The freezer had some food left it and had not been defrosted for some time. No oven gloves were in the kitchen ??. This may seem like we are picky but we all have lovely homes and do not pay for something less or we may as well stay at home. We only book luxury homes so that is what they should be. As for the welcome pack!! Well no we donât understand why a bottle for milk canât be left in the fridge, it also said in the house book to please removed any stains on the furniture well thatâs not been done in a long time so obviously not recently refurbished!! Photographs of houses should be updated ever few months so as not to give a false impression. I do think the owners of the property should check on the cleaning and kitchen crockery etc to make sure there are enough of everything for 6 people.

The owner of the property was really friendly.
The property had some issues that could do with attention, the main one was the flies and wasps while we were there the weather was good but because of the flying insects could not leave the windows or doors open , I think it would be a better stay if the cottage had insect mesh at all windows and doors. The cottage is not fully suitable for people with mobility difficulties as there were 5 steps up to the rear garden so you only have the option to sit on the front patio which leads on to the parking area. The property is attached to other cottages which wasn't obvious when we booked, we thought it was a stand alone cottage, the outdoor photos were slightly misleading. The 2 shower rooms upstairs were very narrow and awkward to use and the toilet in the ground floor bedroom at certain times of the day smelled of the cesspit. The drive up to the cottage was horrendous . The inside of the cottage was beautifully furnished but the seats at the dining room table were really hard to sit on.The cottage and the location of it had many plus points, it was a beautiful cottage and the owner was was more than helpful and if some of the issues I have raised could be sorted we would be more than happy to return, there were so many wonderful things to see and explore and all within a handy distance of the cottage

Shoreview is a lovely cottage in a stunning location.
We have already booked a return stay. The beds were comfortable with pristine linen. Lovely sitting room with a very good tv. All the rooms had stunning views out over the beach and headland. The kitchen was well equipped and cosy. You can walk to the nearest pub (The Hart) in 5 minutes which we did twice and had an evening meal there which was delicious. We had breakfast on our last morning at the cafe just across the road. That to was really good. The location is great for trips out to Whitby, Goathland and Scarborough. There were just a few minor niggles. The cutlery drawer was missed by all 6 of us and we had to ring the contact number to be told about the âsecret drawerâ not a good thing when dinner was getting cold! Mark the drawer CUTLERY. There was a very wobbly dining chair that my husband fixed, this should have been noticed and attended to before we arrived. Also the smell of damp was overpowering in the master ensuite when we arrived, it slowly disappeared as we used the room but wasnât pleasant. It hasnât put us off but would have if it had continued. The cottage was also very cold on arrival. Would have been nice to walked into a warm cottage. That said, Shoreview has the wow factor and we canât wait to return.
