What our customers say about their holidays

It was disappointing to arrive at 5pm (which is a very late check-in time) to find the house hadn't been cleaned.
We then tried calling the numbers on our booking form - one of which was out of order and the other was to a lady who no longer serviced the house. We had to search for another number to contact somebody and then arrange for a cleaner to come urgently. This meant we could not unpack or go shopping, as had been planned. We were told to go out for a meal and charge this to Northumberland Coast and Country Cottages, which was helpful. However, we then had to use the Sunday morning to go shopping and felt we had lost a night and morning of our holiday time. The cleaners did a good job of making the beds and bathrooms clean and tidy, but the general cleanliness of the house was below standard. There was dust under beds, on the stairs, old socks and cloths behind bedside cabinets and furniture. The dishwasher needed a deep clean as the dishes smelled terrible so we had to handwash all of the dishes (which for 10 people was a lot of work). There were baby cots/highchairs/potties all over the house, with nowhere to store them out of the way. The wardrobes in the master bedroom were filled with boxes and bags so there was very little room to hang clothes, and most of the wardrobes in the bedrooms didn't have hangers so clothes had to folded and put wherever there was space. The outside area was full of cobwebs and the artificial grass had debris all over it - which considering this is the first impression of the house was really disappointing. We ended up sweeping and cleaning and hoovering so that the house was clean for our guests who we had invited to share the time with us. I am still waiting for the reimbursement of our meal and the housekeeping bond, so will need to take time today to contact the company again, as I would have thought this would have been dealt with by now. Overall, I have paid nearly £3,500 for a week that did not meet my expectations at all. A very disappointed customer.

Had a wonderful stay, we were 4 adults and 2 well behaved dogs.
We were also lucky with the weather, eating out on the patio most days. The views are amazing, the house is beautiful. Just a 10 minute drive into Berwick town and not much further if going to the beach. The house has all of the amenities you could wish for, washer, dryer, oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher etc.. also tv although the channels took some finding sometimes but we got there in the end. There was a lovely gift basket on our arrival which included a bottle of sparkly and biscuits amongst other items. There are leaflets and brochures in the house with maps showing all places to visit nearby. The heating came on in the mornings for a short time which allowed warm towels in the bathroom and also despite the number of showers each morning, the water was always nice and hot. We did contact the owners on arrival as there was no water in the property, but this was down to Northumbrian Water and not through any fault of the owners. However, Jess could not do enough, and within a short time the waterboard was at the house and they fixed the issue (which apparently was somewhere down the road due to work which has been done earlier in the week). Jess, however, messaged several times to make sure it was fixed and check we were okay. One thing I will never forget are the amazing views, such a wonderful property. Thank you for helping make wonderful memories. xx

Fantastic location â next to the Whiteadder river looking out over sloping fields with lots of birds and other wildlife (and surprisingly entertaining sheep) with public footpaths from the doorstep.
Yet Berwick-upon-Tweed is just a short drive away â a small mediaeval town with lots of character, yet easy to access by car â with free parking! There are lots of places of interest nearby or within an easy drive â we especially enjoyed a boat trip to see seals, Puffins and other sea birds at Farne Islands. The house is spacious and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen â plenty of pots and pans, cutlery and crockery. We liked the design of the relatively recent renovation, the main access is via a boot room, which makes it easy to keep the rest of the house tidy. There are large windows along the length of the house â ideal for watching the wildlife. All bedrooms and bathrooms are accessed from a long corridor which provides flexibility to accommodate different groups. The house is well insulated with an efficient central heating system which we found had been set to maintain a comfortable temperature. Itâs a unique, quality, property in a beautiful location and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking a comfortable rural break in this under-appreciated part of the world.

Fantastic property.
Immaculately clean. Great house to meet with family and enjoy the wonderful northumberland countryside/beaches. The house was well equipped (although maybe another frying pan would be helpful) and had lovely touches like activity packs for the kids, welcome tray in the kitchen and information about the area and local attractions. The beds were very comfortable and although A1 is very close we were not disturbed during the night and slept very well. I wish the property details had mentioned the small single room with pull out bed was ground floor as we have a family member who is in a wheelchair and didnât stay with us but could have if we had known this. Also the description didnât mention a high chair was available for use and we did bring one - if we had known this it would have saved us some room in the car ! I would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting a comfortable family holiday home and would have no hesitation in re booking again. Thank you.

The house is wonderful and the beds and sofas and general space was super for our family.
I have to mention a couple of things that I feel need improving 1) The crockery is so badly scratched that we did not want to eat our food on it - so we felt we had to buy some plates. 2) the saucepans are in a bad way the bottom of the pans are all worn and food caught on the pans and pans smoked every time we cooked. We had a lovely stay and itâs a perfect spot for a family - be aware the house is actually at the side of the A1 if noise bothers you. Also, I booked the house on the basis it had a study listed in the description - when we arrived there was no study . I was disappointed about this. Overall, a super house for a family stay in the glorious north east. The beds are super comfy, the heating comes on in the morning and late afternoon, and there is a lovey log burner if you want to use it. We stayed in winter so the heating was appreciated. It has a super family kitchen to sit in and a lovely sun room with space to sit. Thank you.
