What our customers say about their holidays
Niall - Verified booking
Where to start, based on previous reviews for this property i am surprised to be leaving this feedback.
It does appear that most of the issues experienced are probably outwith the owners direct control and most likely lie with 3rd party contractors (cleaners, hot tub maintenance & holiday park), however all issues stated below did affect out experience and the lack of communication and feedback from either the owner or Sykes has frankly been shocking. Firstly the overall cleanliness was very poor. The Hot tub water did not look like it had been changed since the previous guests, dishes were dirty, there was dust and cobwebs in a number of places and the bedsheets were already covered in dog hair on arrival. Its seems the only housekeeping that had been done since the previous guest was to replace the bedsheets and towels. On Friday the hot tub was accidentally drained by the hot tub maintenance company and left like this until 3pm. This ruined the one day of the week we had intended to spend at the caravan all day. To top this off it also became apparent that there was no water, not even one drop. On speaking to people from the park we were informed this is common on a change over day (so Friday and Monday) as water is supplied from a bore hole and due to the number of hot tubs on site there is not enough water to go around. As such we were forced to go out for the day. However what makes this worse was the lack of feedback and communication from either the owner of Skyes, it was impossible to get hold of either. After a number of hours trying to get hold of someone to sort this issue either by phone, messages or email i gave up and went out. Upon return at 3pm the owner was filling the hot tub again. The owner did state that would reimburse us for that days stay and an email would follow, no email has since been recieved. Sykes did eventually get in contact via phone 30 hours afterwards and compensation was discussed, however again no further feedback has since been recieved and no compensation given. The "restaurant" on site is extremely poor. If your lucky you will get a drink (after a 30 minute wait) but expect the food to be limited to a burger and chips only. The restaurant was also extremely filthy and staff miserable. I would say that the over all location is reasonable and the caravan does have a good range of facilities. These is sky, a smart TV and a number of other usefully items. The owners did leave a nice welcome pack with prosecco and some goodies which was nice. Its just unfortunate that everything else did not reflect the same high standard else this review would have been very different. I would not recommended ever booking through Skyes as they are impossible to get hold of. I would recommended avoiding this park if you plan on staying over change over days as you will have no water all day with no prior warning!

This is a fantastic place to stay, the facilities at The Granary are superb.
From walking into the property we were in awe at the way it had been converted. Some of the buildings old features had been kept, which added to the character and the space it had meant we werenât on top of each other all the time. All three bedrooms are also spacious and have en-suite bathrooms, two with enclosures and one with a shower over bath. The kitchen / dining room is open plan and is well equipped and the livingroom again is roomy and has games for family nights. The owners had left welcome gifts (chocolates, Prosecco and even milk) so you are able to start your stay in style or at least a cuppa!! The garden is completely enclosed, therefore suitable for children and animals and the addition of a hot tub (which we used daily!!) made for a really relaxing stay. The area itself is beautiful, nice, quiet and peaceful and surprisingly close to other towns and villages in the area. Just outside the door there are excellent views and there are Alpacas and horses which are friendly and enjoy a feed. There are other conversions on the site of the original farm and each one is secluded. All in all, congratulations to John, Tracey and Chris on having such a wonderful site and the ability to put such thought and effort into their properties. Weâd love to come back at some point for another break and enjoy the hospitality again. Many, many thanks to you.

We were very happy with our stay, a few minor issues which we did report back to the owner.
Nothing of significance that spoilt our week. The bedroom with the large bath was very warm and few windows could be opened. We bought a fan to help keep it cool. We did have a particularly warm week. Hot tub excellent. Fantastic kitchen and lovely enclosed grass area for the dogs. Good walks from the doorstep. Two local pubs. Travellers Rest was good for food, Glendenning Arms for drinkers. Both welcome dogs. Best to get the bus into Durham, 10 mins and half hourly service most times. Lanchester worth a visit. Excellent food at the Kings Head. Beamish museum, 25 mins by car, is a must and prepare to be there for the day. We hope to return again to this property, or one of the others on this excellent complex.

Lovely relaxed stay, just what the family needed.
3 double bedrooms are hard to find and the fact they all had en suites sealed the deal for us! The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog and meant we could let her our to the toilet without having to stand on guard. Tracey came over to welcome us which was lovely! The kitchen was well equipped with everything anyone could need. They even provided dog bowls! The hot tub was perfect and I really liked that we could replenish wood for the fire without additional charge. Lastly, the alpacas and horses kept my toddler well entertained. The animals are clearly looked after and alpacas are so friendly that you could feed them!

The Granary was excellent!
It was spotlessly clean, very roomy and beautifully furnished. The garden was spacious and the hot tub lovely! There were nice walks nearby and plenty of great places to visit nearby. Durham and Seaham are well worth a visit. Tracey, the owner was fast in her communications and her and John her husband gave us a nice welcome without being intrusive. We had to arrive a couple of days late due to an unavoidable event and they were very accommodating. We were 2 couples and there was plenty of space. We would go back. It's the nicest holiday accommodation we have stayed in in England and I would highly recommend.
