What our customers say about their holidays
Sammy - Verified booking
Immediately upon arrival, we exited our car and was greeted by a strong smell of sewerage, which we thought were the bins at the time as the lids were open and there was a lot of rubbish on the floor.
When talking to someone in the bar, one member of staff although busy was really trying to help us and reported the issue to the maintenance- who only had five minutes left of their shift and I am unaware they did anything about - blamed the fact it was a bank holiday. Another member of the staff at the bar claimed it was nothing to do with them and therefore wasnât even going to attempt to help us and didnât give us the time of day. This put up off sitting outside and using the hot tub. Additionally, the hot tub had sand floating around and clearly hadnât been cleaned. Whilst ringing around different numbers- the bank holiday got the blame for our problems. Inside the cabin, the table was sticky and obviously hadnât been cleaned. We couldnât open the windows due to the smell. However the smell was apparent inside the lodge anyway. As you can imagine, this wasnât a great start to the week and put us off being able to relax. The smell came and went throughout the week and sometimes came when using the kitchen tap. The toaster was very temperamental and there were kitchen doors which werenât screwed on properly. The single beds were too small and very uncomfortable - stains in the linen made us feel a bit dirty. Although warned, it was quite an inconvenience having no water running through the shower or taps on Friday. We did have most things we needed and plenty of seating in the lounge with a fire like heater which was nice. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and wouldnât recommend, but wanted to pass on the reasons why. Thank you, Sammy.

Overall the interior of the lodge is clean, well equipped and comfortably furnished.
The quality of bedding & towels is good and the supply of dvd's, toys, games & books is a nice touch. There was a good supply of hot water however the cold tap in the kitchen runs warm initially. We assume the hot & cold pipes are too close together? We found the heated airer had a broken catch so it would not stand properly making it rather dangerous if there are children or dogs in the property. The only reason we have not given Treetops a 5* review is lack of attention of tidiness of the exterior. Understandably due to the many surrounding trees there will always be an element of leaf detritus. However the decking had not been swept for a long time with lots of leaf matter around the whole area. Dead leaves were in the hot tub scoops one of which is falling to pieces. There were bird droppings along the railings and on the outdoor furniture and the hot tub was splattered. The overall appearance of the exterior with cobwebs, debris etc let's down what the lodge offers internally. It would also be useful if there was a book with details of how the equipment worked. There were a number of instruction leaflets in a drawer but nothing relating to heating, the automatic rubbish bin, soap hand dispenser etc.

Our stay at canis was for a weekend and we had a brilliant time.
The lodge is perfect for a relaxing weekend away based on its facilities. However, this is not to say that it was a perfect weekend away. Me and my partner were very let down by the cleanliness and maintenance of the hot tub at canis. We understood that there were maybe a few difficulties with the hot tub, but when we reported our issues, a woman who claimed to be one of the owners of the cabins came over on the Sunday morning. We felt that she was extremely rude to us, who not only said that it wasn't the company's fault for the hot tub maintenance, but also partly blamed me and my partner, despite us following all of the guidance and rules regarding the hot tub at canis. We were extremely let down and disappointed as we feel her rudeness was definitely not warranted as we were only raising a concern. Despite this, one of the other hot tub maintenance workers visited on our last day on Monday morning. Our experience with him was far superior as he fully explained the hot tubs issues and was overall very friendly. However, although we were let down by the hot tub, it did not take away from the great weekend we had at canis.

Our stay at The Broken Sky Lodge was truly exceptional.
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the thoughtful touches, like the delicious cookies and sweets waiting for us. The lodge itself is beautifully appointed, with great facilities that made our stay both comfortable and convenient. The beds were incredibly comfy, ensuring we had restful nights, and the large hot tub was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed, which allowed us to cook most nights without any hassle. The peacefulness of the site added to the overall relaxing experience, making it a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Our host was attentive and checked in from afar to ensure everything was going smoothly, which we greatly appreciated. Overall, The Broken Sky Lodge provided us with a lovely stay, and we couldn't have asked for more. Highly recommended!

First impressions on arrival were good, despite the strong smell of bleach, but after further inspection, disappointing.
The kitchen was not "well equiped" as advertised. Only one decent pan, bowl and baking trays were rusty and well used. So I had to buy some new ones. No can opener. I had to remake ALL the beds - my 4 yr old grand daughter could have done a better previous job!! The duvet covers were torn. 2 small bottles of wine left were certainly NOT sufficient compensation for having no water Monday morning..apparently due to turnover times when hot tubs are emptied and refilled. The outdoor furniture cushions were wet through and filthy. Two were missing. My daughter and I had to scrub them clean and dry before use. In the main bathroom there are urine splash stains on the bottom of the radiator...not a pleasant site at all. Attention to detail above required because it was a massive let down for a lodge that is a decent size for a family of four
