Holiday Cottages In Ireland

Holiday Cottages in Ireland

Whether you’re after rolling green countryside, cosmopolitan shopping centres, a beach break or even a stay in a quaint and picturesque village, our Ireland Cottages can put you within a stone’s throw of your idea of holiday heaven. The Emerald Isle is ideal for families, with plenty of attractions to keep the little ones entertained, and perfect for couples who want to slope off and enjoy a tranquil and romantic backdrop.

Ireland’s easy enough to get to from the UK; you can catch a flight or enjoy a leisurely ferry trip. Once there, you’ll find an eclectic range of things to see and do, from a visit to the legendary Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim, or walking into Dublin’s Guinness Storehouse, before staggering back out a couple of hours later. We have Ireland Cottages in both the North and South of the country, so you might want to sort out the attractions you want to see, before booking your holiday headquarters.

Why Holiday in Ireland?

As much as Ireland offers modern amenities, such as high-end shopping centres and busy cities, the entire island is packed with ancient myths and legends. While you might want to hit the high street, be sure to take in some of the more traditional sites too, such as the limestone karst plates, known as The Burren, which attracts thousands each year not only to see the great standing stones, but to see the wildlife that has set up home there. Alternatively, hire a holiday cottage in Ireland near Dublin and you’ll be close to the imposingly impressive St Patrick’s Cathedral.

If you’ve chosen a holiday cottage in Ireland for all the family, you’re going to need things for the kids to do. Dublin Zoo is a great place to take a walk on the wild side and your children can get up-close-and-personal with a variety of beasts such as wolves, lions and elephants. Something that always gets little ones excited is the prospect of going underground. Ireland has plenty of caves open to the public, such as the world-famous Doolin Cave and the spectacular formations on show in Dunmore Cave.

Whatever you want from your holiday, don’t forget to set some time aside for a night in a traditional Irish pub – you can’t miss out on the craic!

What our customers say about their holidays

A beautiful cottage in a quiet and remote location, perfect for a relaxing break away.

We were very grateful for the welcome gifts and extra little provisions that made the stay more convenient, such as washing up liquid, bin bags, cleaning cloths, hand wash etc really useful when travelling light and we were especially grateful for the cookies, they were delish! The cottage has everything you might need (apart from washing machine), it was comfortable and really so peaceful. The cottage is surrounded by trees but if they weren't there you can see fields and hills for miles all around you. We used the cottage as a base and planned to have day trips out but after a couple of late nights we couldn't be bothered to travel too far (giants causeway took us about 5 1/2 hours one way with stops - it was a long driving day round trip). We took a trip to Aardmore and saw basking sharks and on the last day stayed around Shillelagh, had a drink at The Dying Cow and a short walk in a nearby forest. It was a beautiful trip. We will return, I would recommend the Old White Cottage as a relaxing break if you don't want to explore too far or don't mind driving. For our next visit we will probably travel on each day to see as much as possible. I wanted to see the west coast but we just couldn't face another 8+ hours in the car round trip. We had beautiful weather while there (and had packed for all types of rain but not sun), it was a proper sun trap sat on the bench out the back. I've seen other comments about making more of the outside and yes more could be done, there are lots of well manicured gardens in Ireland as you travel round but it was also beautiful just to sit in a natural environment.

Second holiday with Sykes cottages although they're not really cottages.

So, the above property we stayed at had issues from the time we walked thro the door, it was a very cold night and we could not understand the heating as no one was on site to meet us. The shower in one of the bathrooms did not work and if you want to watch live tv you can't you can only watch box sets on the owners netflix account but if you search you tube you can get sky news live. The bed in the main room which I had gave me a bad back albiet I earlier seen a review on SC from another previous guest about the same issue, so would have expected been rectified. The other room had no privacy at all, there is a dark net but no curtains so my holiday guest been a female was rather concerned considering there was a window opposite in the other property opposite. The annexe is a nice property but I think the above issues need rectifying, the area is so beautiful and has breath taking views on the ring of Kerry including Ladies View, the amenities of the local garage which consists of a supermarket is mainly all there is to offer close by, the nearest beach 10 mins away has a chip shop there is also a pub there but only open weekends. If you want a main town its about 1hr 10 mins away but it is one of the best drives you will ever do for scenery :) Although I have listed some issues above I must add that the sister of the owner ( who was out the country on business ) spent a lot of time with us and got the shower fixed, got the wifi updated and showed us how the heating worked, she was so kind and we appreciated all the help she gave us, thank you Patricia :)

We arrived and were shortly after welcomed by the owner.

We had chosen this property as described as dog friendly with garden. We were told by the owner that the garden was for the property next door and the occupants of which would be leaving on the Saturday, but we could use it. I enquired if there were any walks across the farm land and the owner advised us of one, which turned out to be inaccessible for my dog as stile gap too short for him to get through. The cottage was very dirty, surfaces only wiped, mould and dirt in shower tray and on tiles, dirty furniture and accessories ie lamp shades, spray marks on ceiling, dirty radiators, I have taken photos which I am happy to share with Sykes. The property is not as per description, no exclusive garden or TVs in bedrooms. I paid almost £1100 for 8 days, this property falls far below what I would expect. The owner requested we turn off central heating when not in the property, which we agreed to. The next day he entered the cottage whilst I was in it alone unannounced, saying he had seen the heating had been left on and thought we were out, my husband and dog were out, so car not in parking space. As you can imagine I was very surprised at his entry but felt unable to challenge. This behaviour is completely unacceptable, only in a risk situation would I expect an owner to enter their property, certainly not to turn the heating off. I could have been asleep, showering etc and all our personal possessions were insitu, I am very unhappy about this. This was my first and last experience of booking with Sykes.

Beautiful unusual, unique house set in a tranquil woodland.

Gated entrance. Loads of hot water in a powerful shower or bath. Loads of towels. We arrived a day later than planned. No heating for the first 2 nights so was very cold. The description on the website needs updating. There's no 4 poster bed and the couch is the most uncomfortable couch we have ever sat on. The noise in the downstairs bedroom when a tap is turned on or the toilet flushed is like a freight train. There's nowhere to put your clothes in the downstairs bedroom. No wardrobe or drawers. 4 plastic hangars on the back of the door is not good enough. No drawers or hangers in bedroom upstairs. No toilet roll holders. No towel rail or hooks in upstairs bathroom. A bit more cutlery so you don't have to wash them after every meal. No space in kitchen cupboards for food. These are all basic facilities that you would expect in any holiday home. The heating stopped working again for another day and night so we left a day early as it was too uncomfortable It's a shame really as the house and area are fabulous and the house was really clean. Lastly when we tried to put a wash on the washing machine was full of wet clothes and dryer was full of half dried clothes. This is not the first time as others have commented on it also. I'm not paying for my holiday and then doing somebody's laundry.

    Wonderful holiday, thank you Henry!

The property is a thoughtfully renovated, comfortable and well equipped traditional Irish cottage, the kitchen being one of the best I've encountered. The cottage is beautifully located on the shores of Lough Melvin while a beautiful glade of trees beside the cottage provided much needed shade during the recent heatwave! There's lots to see and do in the locality though we also enjoyed swimming in the lake at nearby Derrynaseer ( an excellent alternative to crowded beaches as is nearby Garrison) cycling and walking the quiet roads, edged with lush hedgerows! It's clear that Henry takes Covid precautions very seriously which was reassuring. There were generous touches too like new toiletries and kitchen basics - and not so basics, wine and nice crisps! Although there's no mobile coverage inside the cottage, it's available a few 100 metres up the road - fine by us and promoted a sense of getting away from it all. Communication with Henry was easy at all times. We certainly plan to return - highly recommended!
